For my b-day this year I took 2 days off work (friday and monday), took myself to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, mom and I are having brunch in a little bit and then going to go see the Circle (her choice) because it is also moms day, had a lovely pre-birthday trail ride on the best damn horse ever yesterday who is being retired to Kentucky this Wednesday and I'm trying not to cry about it, had a less successful b-day ride this morning on the bitchiest mare ever I thought I was gonna die no lie, spending the whole day monday with bestie S, and then barn girl dinner this coming Wednesday, which will be slightly bittersweet as the ponies retiring to KY are leaving that day.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first GotG film and can admit that I was a bit nervous that this one would suck. A couple of the reviews I peaked at had a lot of general complaints about it. But, while it's not quite as well structured narratively speaking, I had a lot of fun! Baby Groot makes up for a lot of very minor sins, imo.

1. I could literally just watch The (Mis)Adventures of Baby Groot Vols. 1-Infinity and be perfectly happy. I'm just saying.

2. The big trap with this sort of ensemble is keeping all the gimmicky character traits a bit one note, and using that as character development instead of actual character development, but I'm happy to say they all seemed to have changed from the first movie with the possible exception of Rocket, who still managed to have some development toward the end of the film.

3. This film should have really come out around Father's Day, imo, since it was really about How Not To Be A Dad, and as much as I love Yondu as a character and love to see him whistle kill every bad guy in the galaxy, he does not get father of the movie. In comparison to Ego, he wins, and nice sacrifice at the end, but he was not especially a really good dad! He was maybe a decent guy underneath, and maybe he loved Peter, but I can't say he was a good dad. I was bummed he died though, he's such a bad ass character, it's a shame.

4. Okay so like, the guy's name was EGO, for crying out loud. Was that not a big clue????? hello.

5. I agree with Destina -- Dave Bautista stole every scene he was in unless Baby Groot was in it.

6. I really love Zoe Saldana, but you know what I would really really love? Is to see her play a different character than the same Slightly Pissed Of Anger-Lady she plays in every single movie. Just, like for once. She is *always* the same.

7. I thought for sure at least one of the credit movies would be a more direct set up for one of the other Marvel films like The Black Panther movie or Homecoming or something, but no, and I was perfectly okay with that.

8. Loved the theme of family, and fathers, and comparisons between them. Found family! What's your real family?

9. Loved Mantis a lot! Was totally freaked out by the weird Golden People EW.
