Rewriting is a bitch.

I meant to comment on Lost Girl, both seasons, which I actually managed to finish a couple of months ago, but then I got distracted by so many things I've lost count now. Anyway, I truly loved it although I was a little underwhelmed by the main plot of most of the second season.

I have signed up for [community profile] hl_chronicles! yay! Haven't a clue which story to choose, though. o.O

Oh, and I was very much remiss not to publicly acknowledge and admire the lovely pic [personal profile] nrrrdy_grrrl made for the 20 years challenge for my story Crash of Light. You can see it here. I love it. I can't say I thought much about where they would be in 20 years after the end of that story, but naturally they would still be together. And in kilts. Yes. :D :D

~~~
I haven't seen the Avengers. This is woeful, but I'm sure it will eventually be remedied, somehow. I am not much into this fandom but I have been enjoying most of these films, so I'm eager to see this thing that so many of you like so much.
~~~

I managed to acquire all of the Harry Potter audiobooks as read by Stephen Fry (UK version) and then listened to them no less than 3 times, all the way through. Possibly four times. I'm a bit fuzzy on that. Talk to me if you would like them. I'm sure we can figure out a way.

They are as near to perfect as can be. Although Stephen Fry's Fleur Delaceur made me think of Maurice from Highlander which was possibly the most unintentionally hilarious thing ever and sent me regularly into giggle fits while driving.

~~~
May was one busy (understatement!) month. I'm hoping that things will be less ridiculous from here on out. One can hope.
~~~

Yes, the family continues to be somewhat bonkers. Dad is feeling better, so I'm told. Mom was having trouble with her eyesight, but I guess that's also a bit better, although she called me in tears the other day for I don't even know what. She was feeling down, I guess. Sister went back to an inpatient clinic for a couple of weeks. She should be back out again by the end of the week. I've been speaking with her a little more regularly which is good. She's a hot mess, though.

~~~
LJ sent me an email about their migrating scrapbook for pictures, which I confess I hardly paid attention to, but I finally checked it out today and rather rediscovered all my icons! I almost forgot all about them. Many of them are a bit so so or worse, but a few of them are quite lovely. So many Oz icons, I had forgotten that I was doing all that. I stopped when my old computer got rained on and this new one (well, it's no longer new) has a version of photoshop that I find annoying. sigh.
~~~

Oh! I remembered something I wanted to say! I finally (FINALLY) finished watching all of Deep Space Nine. Only took me three years.... I thought I would never get out of the Dominion War, was getting a bit desperate there. When I hit the Ezri episodes I knew I was almost done! lol. (And weirdly, adore Ezri, always have, and a lot more than I liked Jadzia. I know, I'm weird, what can I say) And have joyfully begun Star Trek: Voyager. If you recall (or you don't recall...) I was attempting to watch all of Star Trek in chronological order, but the experiment has not really been, um, attended to with much diligence, sadly. And I had meant to watch the TOS and TNG films at the appropriate times but that never seemed to happen. Anyways, I have begun Voyager and I am awash in total complete love. I only watch it here and there, when I want to snack on an episode and, you guys, it's my show! sigh. I couldn't tell you why I love this show out of all the trek shows so much but I do.

Too bad the show was popular in that awkward period of fandom when so many began to host their fiction on private websites that have vanished. It was always rather the redheaded stepchild of the franchise. Hunting down fiction is like doing major archeological excavations. *pets it lovingly*

I'm terrible at making jokes.

I love Duncan and Methos. This should be fairly obvious, but sometimes it needs to be said. They are teh cute! I have a hankering to rewatch episodes, but I just don't have the time. Sadness! I need an [livejournal.com profile] amand_r style post-it note version. lol.

Meanwhile, the story continues to kick my ass.

This piece by piece deconstruction of the Doctor's new costume by the BBC news is HIGH-LARIOUS. It's like one of those fashion columns in US magazine with catty celeb-wannabe commentaries.

I saw HBP *twice*, not necessarily because I liked it so much, although I did like it, but because that's just the way my life enfolds sometimes. My mother demanded I take her after I already had plans with my cousin. D'oh!

When did Bonnie Wright become absolutely gorgeous? I hardly recognize her! Where's the sweet little girl who said "Good Luck" to Harry at platform 9 and 3/4?

I haven't seen the new Harry Potter yet. Crazy week at work. Crazy weekend. I may not get to see it until next week. BAH.

~~~~
In other news, I've broken 10,000 words on the new HL story and no where near finished. SND HLP PLZ.
My laundery pile is taller than my head. No joke.
Highlander peeps, you all were supremely unhelpful in helping me find the story I was looking for. I found it on my own, thanks to no one. hrmph. It was one of Kai's. :D Look to see it on crack_van sometime this month. soon. ish.
~~~

I started season seven of ST: TNG. meep. It's almost finished. I'm not ready to say good-bye to Picard! Oh hey, I have the movies, too. yay. Oh gawd. That means Generations, too. :/

I'm bored and I have a heap of work to do. So, for no reason other than it makes me happy, I feel like making a list of my top ten fannish loves, one for the men, and one for the women.

Men:

1. Duncan MacLeod (Highlander)
2. Methos (Highlander)
3. Roger Lococco (Wiseguy)
4. Tony Almeida (24)
5. Captain Jack Sparrow (PotC)
6. Fitzwilliam Darcy (P&P)
7. George Knightley (Emma)
8. Henry Tilney (Northanger Abbey)
9. Jack Bauer (24)
10. Captain Jean-Luc Picard (ST: TNG)

*cough* Um, 2 Immortals, 2 Captains, 3 Regency Gentlemen, 3 Government Agents. What this says about me, I don't know and I'm scared to find out.

Women:

1. Elizabeth Bennet (P&P)
2. Elizabeth Swann (PotC)
3. Sydney Bristow (Alias)
4. Amanda (Highlander)
5. Michelle Dressler (24)
6. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
7. Ozma (Oz Books)
8. Martha Jones (Doctor Who)
9. Rose Tyler (Doctor Who)
10. Donna Noble (Doctor Who)

yay, lists are comforting.

Horseback riding yesterday was the only respite I've had from DW since Saturday. 2 hours of being completely occupied with other things! Wonderful! horsey horsey horsey, for those who could care less )

Okay, now I'm excited for the film, woooo.

I haven't much tried to read any of the DW fixit fic that's being posted at the speed of light right now, but I did read one story that I will recommend to those inclined -- cut because everything is spoilery at the 'mo )

First, a Doctor Who fic rec:

Bed Bath and Beyond by [livejournal.com profile] cjk1701. Written for [livejournal.com profile] sizeofthatthing, although not listed in their master list for some reason.

I found this doing a random search on whofic yesterday when I was overcome with a need for Donna fic (omg Donna don't leave me. *sob*). It's lovely, with understated angst, and is surprisingly hot for being more DoctorDonnafriends than Doctor/Donna. And short, as most Donna fic seems to be at this moment. Set post Midnight, no spoilers for 4x11 or 12.

And [livejournal.com profile] fannish5! I never do these, but I liked this one.

Name 5 characters you didn't like at first, but eventually learned to love.

In no particular order:

1. Fanny Price (Mansfield Park, Jane Austen) -- In actually, it wasn't that I initially didn't like Fanny, although she rather embodies that sort of character who you feel you have to like only because she's so "good", but I didn't feel much love for the entire novel because it's the only one of Austen's books where I *doubted* that Fanny and Edmund were meant to be together (I rather think Edmund is a boob), not in the way the couples in her other novels are meant to be together. But, since then, I've truly begun to think it's one of Austen's better work, and come to appreciate Fanny for the tiny, dark, unpleasent bits in her character.

2. Severus Snape (Harry Potter, JKR) -- Abstractly I understood why HP fandom loves Snape so much, but I certainly didn't care for him until his character became complete with the final book. In the novels, Snape is infinitely fractured and broken and stubbornly mean with a bravery born from love that's a little amazing, with whatever redemption he may recieve never occuring in life. I loved that; and it broke my heart.

3. River Song (Doctor Who) -- I'm still trying to process what I feel about River Song, but I loved her for two reasons: spoilers! )

4. Linus Caldwell (Ocean's 11) -- I'm not sure why I have him here, but truly, I seriously didn't like Linus in the first film, but then by the third film I loved him. *shrug* Rather mirrors my disgruntled affection for Matt Damon. *g* bwah.

5. Tom Paris (Star Trek: Voyager) -- I always liked him, but I never ever thought I'd adore the character as much as I do now, starting off a Chakotay girl. I thought Tom Paris was just another blah character like all the others. I remember rolling my eyes over all of the Paris/Kim stories that kept multiplying liek bunnies. ahahaha. Acutally, I never did get into Paris/Kim all that much, but once I twigged to Chakotay/Paris, then I instantly loved him. heh. Sadly, Voyager was rather a gateway fandom for me; I fell fast and hard, but then never spent a lot of time there before moving off to Highlander, although I still, to this day, love the TV show ST: Voy so so much.

This is more for myself, than anyone else. I was updating my profile the other day, sort of trimming fandoms, moving them around and stuff, and just got to thinking about what I spend most of my (fannish) time thinking about, and watching.
Highlander: )

Doctor Who: )

Friday Night Lights: )

Jane Austen )

Pirates of the Caribbean )

Harry Potter )

Flight of the Conchords: )

Deadwood: )

Phew! Man, I've gotten no work done today.... meep. But fun! Yay my shows. I loves them lots. I didn't include Torchwood because, I just don't know about that show. I am watching it every week, which is something I'm not doing for shows I really love (and blame DW, really. [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro, you're so right about TW being methadone!) but I rather hated this week's episode, and the previews for next week didn't leave me feeling in the least bit excited. Still? I love Ianto and Rhys and Martha as long as she's on it. This may just have to be a show I sorta kinda watch for the sake of the Whoverse.

I may get back into Lost at one point, but I haven't been watching since it started back up. I plan to watch. I mean, I gotta know what happens. But, not right now and I'm not really feeling the loss. And the same thing goes for BSG, and again, not really feeling the loss. Last season was brutal, man, and kind of killed the joy although doesn't mean I don't still love it, 'cause I do. I'm in it for Admiral Adama.

Aaaanyywayyys, that's me in a fannish, er, nutshell. :D Also, GIP. Look, I has a Connor! <3 <3

So, JKR outs Dumbledore. Hah! Well, of course he is.

It seems people either crave all sorts of tidbits like this from the author or they gnash their teeth, call JKR names, and generally cry foul and wish she'd shut up. I... oh, what does it matter? But, of course, I loved these books just as they are, exactly as they are, and so I suppose I don't understand that sort of reaction and likely never will.

Although, truth be told, I've never understood getting upset at the artist or writers or the TPB for not going along with our wishes. I was never even upset at Chris Carter! I don't have any anger for George Lucas! So, you'll understand where I'm coming from. It's like being a back seat driver. I'm not driving! I can't control the car! So, if I don't like where it's going, for the love of Mike either deal or get out of the car so I don't have to hear complaining, but of course no one does get out of the car and so we're all smashed up in there together, with me plastered against the window... ahhahaha. okay, that's funny. *g*

That's probably an unpopular opinion.

*slinks back under thesis again*
