I think I better do this now, or it'll never get done. :)

I'm going through these in the order they are in the program book, and from my sketchy memory, and stuck to vids that were new to me, with one exception. Also, I was out late to a Dodgers game last night, and previously was up late writing, and then got no sleep at VVC, so, you know, my comments are limited to the "omg things go boom shiny want moar" variety.

A few days ago I was in Whole Foods puttering around when all of a sudden they started playing We Build This City Another Sunday (er,link to the vid, anyone?) over their system. So I'm wandering the aisles grinning like a goof visualizing sparkly McKay and Ronan and Shepard, and the Wraith chick singing at that one point. I could see the vid. I didn't want to go to the check out before the song ended. lol.

And, a few days before that I was at a party held by one of my writing teachers. At one point I'm walking up some stairs from the living room to the kitchen (it's a split level house on a hill) and all of a sudden Mundian To Bach Ke starts playing. And, you know, every time I hear that song outside of a vid show or in relation to the vid, I have this profound moment of disconnect, and feel strangely like someone came and *stole* the song from the vid, or something. heh.

Sometimes when I'm in a public setting with friends, like at a restaurant or in mall or where ever, and a vid song starts playing over the radio, it's like a little secret I have myself and I'm like NO ONE KNOWS THIS SONG IS REALLY A VID and for some reason that strikes me as significant. Usually, especially if I'm in the middle of a conversation, my mind is then running in two different tracks, one for the vidsong, and the other for the conversation. This doesn't happen too often since most vid songs tend not to be the sort that are played in restaurants, but it has happened often enough.

In contrast, for those vid songs that are heavily played on the radio, I tend to forget they're vid songs, and only sometimes go, oh yeah, this is a vid song! And then I remember the vid, and then sometimes I have to go hunt down the vid to watch it again.

Interestingly enough, before Vividcon 2008, the radio played the Flobot's song Handlebars all the time. I mean, I would hear it at least once a day, and then I had bought it, too, so I heard it all the time on my iPod and stuff, and EVERY time I heard it I thought to myself, man, this is THE song for the Doctor. Now, post VVC 2008, and post [livejournal.com profile] flummery's vid Handlebars, it's like the radio just knows that song belongs to that vid because I never hear it anymore. haha. It's like the universe knows that song is now Doctor Who related forever and ever and ever.

Anyone else have funny vidsongs in real life situations come up?

So many people are doing rec pages that I'm not so sure mine will really add anything, since I'm mostly repeating what other people say, but hey, what the heck. These are all premiering vids. I was gonna do some non-premiering vids, but this got kind of long and at one point I do have to do some work today. You can see me run out of steam as my comments get shorter and shorter. :D

Vids! )

Woo. That took longer than I thought.

Look what killabeez and elynross made me for my birthday!! I can hardly believe how beautiful it is. This is a Highlander vid to Eliza Gilkyson's song Separated. It made me cry more than once. I can't believe they made this for me. It really is the best present ever. *g* *hugskillandelyn*

Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes! I think [livejournal.com profile] astolat had it right by saying LJ is really just a means to getting happy birthday wishes. *g* You guys are great..

*bursts out crying*

(um, overly emotional much? LOL)

I'm having a little get together tonight, so I won't be around much today. I will respond to all your posts soon. But I just wanted you all to know how much I appreciate all your kind thoughts and how honored I am to call each and every one of you my friend.

Okay, obviously I cannot rely on my brain AT ALL to remember things. There were two more vids in the Escapade Vid show that I totally loved and somehow managed to leave out of my Con Report. So, they get their own post. :)

The Chemicals Between Us: The Fast and the Furious, [livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa. How could I forget to mention this vid?? Okay, I confess to a (notso)secret fascination with Vin Diesal. Anything the man does, I'm like, right there. So, needless to day, I adore this film. It's just a lot of fun, and this vid really did a great job depicting, not only the car porn, but also some of the complexities of the Dom/Brian relationship. You may laugh, but there are complexities! *g*

Zebra: due South, [livejournal.com profile] astolat. I saw an earlier version of this online, before she was finished with it, and I loved it then. I loved it even more on the big screen. I don't know due South very well, but I have read several stories and even beta for due South sometimes, so I'm kinda fond of these boys and seeing a RayK vid that was as jumpy and frenetic as RayK is himself (I gather, anyway, from the stories I've read) was totally fun and awesome. I really admired the sheer amount of clips she used and the fantastic editing job. And also, I love that song. :)

I actually wrote a long, very witty, start to a con report yesterday, but then it went poof, and so this one is going to be a lot less witty. And this just after I told [livejournal.com profile] elynross I prefer the website interface over a client... oops. *g*

I feel silly doing this because a) I've been dragging my heels setting up the Mac to vid, and b) I generally don't like talking about ideas or works in progresses. For some reason, it always feels like I'm cutting down on my creative energy by chatting about projects. *shrug* (I've always said I was weird... *g*)

Anyway, very loosely, these are my vid ideas, some of them are more definite than others:

Alias:

-A Sydney vid, that touches on her relationship with her parents (and also with Sloane)

-Another Sydney vid

-Yet another Sydney vid, this one to techno (I see a pattern developing here...)

Highlander:

-That thing with Killa. (wheeee!!)

-A Duncan vid.

-Another Duncan vid.

-A sword fighting vid (thanks to Nicole for pointing out there should be one of these)

-Maybe a D/M vid. Possibly.

Las Vegas:

--Shiny!

Pirates:

--Arrrrr. Where's me treasure? Oooh, pretty Elizabeth.

The Fast and the Furious:

--vrroooom.

King Arthur.

--Dagonet! Tristan! Lancelot! *sob*

And one lone Sirius/Remus vid, because I have a song for them.

There may be others. I'm frazzled and forgetful today. Whether any of these actually make it out of nebulous stage is another thing entirely. (aside for the one with Killa, which *will* get done.)

I've ordered Season 3 Highlander!!! bwee.

Work is crazy! Make it stop.

I was dutifully writing up a con report when I somehow lost the post. Thus, ya'll are getting a truncated con report.

I had a great time, as usual. Yay for Vividcon! I dearly missed the extra bookend days of fannish hijinks I normally get with my darling New York Crew, but c'est la vie. Maybe next year, I'll fly out early to NY and do the drive again, for old time's sake. Although, in all honesty, I'm MUCH less tired than last year. That drive is exhausting! (but fun. *g*)

my not-quite-a-con-report con report )

Jeez, that took all day to write. It's like they expect me to work, or something, around here. The nerve. ;)

I talked about more vids than I thought I would, thanks to other peoples con reports that helped jog my memory. And now, I'm ready for home.

Well, I called up my dear cousin J today to see if he would like to go see Starsky and Hutch with me. (I know, I know. I'm so ashamed. *hangs head* In my defense, I was curious. ) And well, it's the Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson show, that slash meaning everything it should. *g* Did I hate it? No, I didn't. Was it remotely like the tv show? Not really, although they did get the look right, I'll give them that much. Was it funny? Yes. A lot, if you go for Stiller's brand of funny, as well as OW's.

I asked J to see it with me because I knew he'd say yes. :) After the movie we went to my place and hung out some. J and I have been close all our lives, since I was about 3 and him 2 1/2. He likes sci-fi, and fantasy, and it was him and his brother (and his mom, too, who was really into Classic Trek) who insisted we all go see the Star Trek movies when I was kid. If it weren't for them, I'm not so sure I would have ever been into sci-fi and genre shows at all.

So, we're hanging out and his eye catches the WOAD dvd set....

And what could I do, really? So I explained it to him and decided to show him a couple. Just a couple. We started out simple enough and I thought Destina's Gladiator vid would be good and he likes Smallville, so we watched Lum's Learning to Fly. I should have known once he saw the vid menus with all those choices, and him loving music as he does, he'd want to see them all. And he did. And it was fine, really. He got the concept quickly and seemed to be enjoying them, kept asking to see more and more and I started wanting to show him more. I had managed to steer clear of the overtly slashy vids, and then he spots Killa's and T.Jonesy's Closer vid --

I meant to do this a while ago, but I am forgetful.

shalott, Seah, Margie, and myself have our vids available in a DVD collection. For details on how to get one (for the mere price of postage) go here.

And, something else I forgot to do yesterday: Happy Belated Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] geekturnedvamp! :)
