He did choose Rachel but I liked the irony of the whole situation. In the little speech that the Joker gives to Batman having to break his rules and go against what he knows - right after saying that he tells him that he has to play his 'game' if he wants to save one of them. Being that I've seen this movie many times (5x - yes I know but it was worth it!), a little light would have went off in my head and I would have did the very opposite of what the Joker said because, well, he is THE JOKER! But alas, Batman was not piecing things together at that moment. It was sad to see Maggie's Rachel go (let's face it, Katie Holmes was the weakest link in the last movie) but it leaves room for a new character(s). I have friends over at Warner Bros and am trying to get the dish on the upcoming script - we'll see! Rumor has it that Catwoman or the Penguin will make an appearance.
Anywho, see the movie again and let me know what you think. I caught a lot more intricate parts that I didn't catch the first time around.
