what the hell is going on out there

Hi! I realize I haven't posted in a while. Whenever I have any time, I spend it chipping away at this story, so not much of anything else is happening, fannish-ly speaking. Meanwhile, the world continues to swing further into absurdity.
You know things are crazy busy at work when the thought of being put into quarantine seems like a nice little staycation.

Went to see Emma. I LOVED IT.
1. I loved their interpretation of Mr. Woodhouse. Bill Nighy is a blessing.
2. Honestly, they had me at Johnny Flynn as Mr. Knightley. JOHNNY FLYNN, GUYS. Ugh. Just minorly obsessed with Johnny Flynn, both as an actor and as a singer. And here he is. And he does BOTH. He has a duet with Jane Fairfax and it's lovely.
3. I don't know what creative decision went into showing both Mr. Knightley and Emma being dressed and undressed by their valets/maids, but I am 100% on board and behind this decision.
4. This adaptation's Frank Churchill was rather dull. Not much spark in comparison with Ewan's Frank Churchill, but I did not mind this as Frank Churchill is rather tiresome and should be overshadowed by Mr. Knightley imo.
5. Loved Harriet. Very sweetly portrayed. Especially loved Augusta! That actress is awesome in Sex Education and I kept marveling at her maturity in this film compared to her playing an awkward teenager in the tv show.
6. They really dialed up the sexual tension between Emma and Mr. Knightley and I AM HERE FOR IT, PEOPLE. *fans self*
6.a. They also dialed up the female/female relationships, which I am also here for.
7. I confess I was unsure about this actress for Emma. I've loved her in her other films. She's FANTASTIC in Thoroughbreds, though if you're squeamish I can't recommend that film. Thoroughbreds is creepy and disturbing and really very well done, but like twisted, and unexpectedly bloody. Anyway, it's quite a change to Emma. But, I am not overly critical by nature. Anya's Emma is less sweet than other interpretations, a little more haughty, but her character growth after that Box Hill picnic was lovely.
eta 8. Lovely performance from Miranda Hart as Miss Bates. I miss her on Call the Midwives.
~~
In other news I managed to drive out to see everyone at Escapade a couple weekends ago, mostly monopolizing
killabeez's time. :D It was very wonderful seeing friends, though I missed so many as well. (eta: every time I post to dw I forget how to do user tags lol)

I can see the end of this story. I CAN SEE IT.
