I really feel for all of you who had your heart stomped on with the early seasons! I am ouchy on your behalf! Personally though I am always wary of shows that start with a dynamic that is so intimate because narratively speaking writers don't know what to do with that but pull the pairing apart or have their show end. it's usually one or the other. And with spn they couldn't (or wouldn't to be exact) break the format of the duo in the car, so it's just doomed to be constantly reformed. But! they lucked out with those actors. That's the only reason why the show works.
