So, there's this post instead. Full of nonsense.
1. We are now four days out from CA: Civil War and I remain about 98% spoiler free! \o/ Basically I don't watch TV and only squint at tumblr. None of my real life friends cares one iota about the MCU. Although there was that one time I was at dinner with a bunch of friends and someone brought up the CW trailer and I was like GOTTA GO TO THE BATHROOM BYE.
2. 'Course I probably just jinxed myself.
3. Today at the car dealership, on some morning talk show, a couple of the MCU actors were there promoting the movie and I was like "oh no you don't" and had my headphones on in a jiffy. But I was momentarily struck by how weird it was to watch these particular actors being interviewed. And then I realized that I had gotten so used to seeing them only in gif format on tumblr, where that was more normal than regular video. OY.
4. One of the things I wanted to complain about was the dearth of Sam/Steve fiction out there. Why isn't there more? WHY? Feel free to rec me some Steve/Sam, although I feel like I've been pretty thorough in my searches. Preferably not also as part of Steve/Bucky or another pairing because of reasons. Not that I don't love them all, because I DO, I really do.
4.a. I admit I have picky tastes.
5. Also if anyone has any good recommendations for Steve/Thor? I tried checking out the pairing tag on AO3 but got dispirited at what seemed to be only cracky/gimicky type stories all wildly ooc, but maybe I missed something.
5.a Also, also, I've come to accept that I will always be out of step with fandom at large -- I only play in a fandom sandbox if I love canon and it seems to me that most everyone else plays in a fandom sandbox *despite* canon.
6. I rewatched all of Star Wars, from the prequels to Clone War to the original trilogy to TFA. And this is what I learned: a) Obi-Wan Kenobi is my favorite character, b) the Emperor has got some serious long con game skills yo. Like, the man has patience. c) having the force is more trouble than it's worth, d) Clone Wars is by far the better, more comprehensive part of the stories pre-original trilogy, e) JJ Abrams should not be trusted with science. not even with fantasy science. I know there's hand wavy explanation for why everyone in every system can see the starkiller destroy that one system but it's dumb. At least the trilogy kept to it's own logic, but TFA is kind of all over the place. f) but even with that, which honestly pulls me out of the story every time, TFA is a lot of fun if only for Rey and Finn. And sometimes Poe.
7. I've started writing a new book and... you guys, writing is hard.
8. I am deeply amused by the billboard around town for Neighbors 2 (and jeez, was there a Neighbors 1???) because it's like EXACTLY the same as the billboards all around town for CA Civil War. EXACTLY THE SAME. Honestly I'd almost prefer the plot of Neighbors 2.... haha. Okay not really. But kind of yeah.
Wow that was kind of complainy after all. :/

They were on the street when the voice came through comms. It went to all of them. They could all hear.
“Steve,” said the voice.
Clint stopped, turning to Rogers and Wilson at the sound of the unfamiliar voice. Rogers raised his hand up to his helmet and looked at the surrounding buildings, turning in a circle. “Bucky?” he asked. “Is that--Where are you?”
“Steve,” said the voice again, and Clint now knew it belonged to James Barnes. “It’s an ambush, Steve. Get the hell out of there.”
~ I got to hang out with killabeez both this weekend and last weekend, and I got to see and hug a bunch of folks very quickly at Escapade for an all too brief but beautifully fannish lunch. Couldn't do my usual Saturday membership this year. :( But it's all good.
~ With CA: CW coming hard upon us (*snicker*), I figured if I was gonna write these couple of MCU stories, I better do so now. I'm not especially nervous about it, but I'd rather get these stories out now rather than wait and possibly have my fannish interest go awry. Also, I should be starting my next novel, so I gotta push these puppies out the door.
~ I recently inhaled all of The Blacklist that was available on Netflix, which, I liked for the most part. It's entertaining, if somewhat ridiculous, but what isn't these days anyway? lol. BUT, rewatching Age of Ultron after spending that many hours watching James Spader on The Blacklist, now I can't see Ultron without hearing Red Reddington and it is HILARIOUS.
~ I'm days away from finishing my current MCU story. What type of MCU story am I currently writing, you may ask? UGH is my answer. I had this genish story idea focusing on Bucky and Clint Barton that I couldn't get rid of, and because I apparently lack the gen-writing gene it is now Bucky/Barton/Laura, with a primary focus on Bucky, I guess. I don't know. It's still very Steve&Bucky though, if anyone cares. It's good? I like it? I'm sort of falling in love with the dynamic in this. These are neither of my one true characters or anything, I'm so much more a Steve and Sam girl, but WHAT CAN YOU DO?? I feel like the premise might turn off some people, but whatever. It's got the full Barton family effect going here! Surely someone will want to read this thing? Anyone? Bueller?
~ Work is aggravating, but barn life is popping. Yet exhausting. It's been pretty much non-stop activity in my social life since December. I'm tired. I need a nap.
~ my new apartment is great, but predictably I got overwhelmed in decorating and so it's not done yet. My tighter budget is no bueno. I'll pick it back up!
~ OH. Highlander friends!!! I keep forgetting to mention that I'm going on a six day Scottish Highlands trip on horseback. ON HORSEBACK.** Through the Scottish Highlands. Basically from one side to the other. The itinerary takes us to the castle from the first movie! I did not know this when I chose this particular package trip, but it is certainly a bonus! I'll post the itinerary when I get a chance. This is the company hosting the trip. And we are going on the Wild West Highlands one, route 2, which is apparently more rugged. :D I wanted the Wiskey and Castles trip, but the dates didn't work out, but bonus highlander castle is awesome so yay! And we ride along Loch Ness, so that'll be cool.
** Or as my Thor-like Iranian Pilates coach would say, "On back horse? You went backhorse riding?"
~ whoops I'm late for work.
What are good houseplants that live with very little to no light? I want some pretty house plants for both my bathrooms, but I'm certain everything will die, which I would rather avoid having to constantly replace the plants if they keep dying. No windows in either bathroom, and I tend to keep the door closed.

My gift has already been posted. :D :D :D Holiday Spirits. A delightful D/M story, most charming, that I loved and want to cherish. Yay!
I've only read a handful so far, but I must point out the wonderful Agent Carter/HL, Peggy & Amanda story, Au Revoir whose only fault is that it is not 100k words long.

Life is crazy! I am remembering with envy that really silly TV show from when I was a kid about the blonde teenager who's dad was an alien, so she was half alien, and her special powers were freezing time. I think it was called Wishing on a Star. I wish I could freeze time.
Scenes from my hectic nutty life:
~ I've been wanting to move for over a year now and suddenly in mid-October I was like, "let's do this!" And not 3 weeks later I'm in a new place. Bye bye old apt. Hello, new pretty apt! :D :D :D
~ Last friday while moving stuff into my car to take to goodwill, I tripped? slipped? was attacked by a ghost? I don't know, and fell down a couple of steps, sprained my ankle. Same foot and same type of strain (same staircase, too) from the last time I did this. This was at the old place. :( :( :(
~ The new place is less than 10 minutes from the barn, and less than 10 minutes from all my friends. Same commute time to work, but there is talk of my work moving to the same neighborhood, less than 10 minutes away. IF THAT HAPPENS I WILL HAVE A TEN MINUTE COMMUTE. Pray for this. :D :D :D
~ In my absentmindedness while going to the hardware store to get caulk to patch holes from hanging stuff on the walls, I got a parking ticket. :( :( :(
~ One way to get around a sprained ankle when wanting to horseback ride is riding bareback! Although getting on and off the horse was still adventurous, the ride itself was a lot of fun. I've ridden bareback several times but not frequently enough for it not to still be a thrill each time I do it. The mare I rode last night was like riding a couch, although she's a bit boney in the withers so posting the trot bareback was.... unpleasant lol. Ow my lady parts. Her sitting trot and canter are a lot of fun though. :D :D :D
~ The movers couldn't get my couch in through the front door of my new apartment. It's a taller couch (or I guess really, a wider couch. whatever, it's long) and the hallway is not that high or wide. They just couldn't get the right angle to pull it in from underneath. :( :( :(
~ I'm getting a new couch! :D :D :D
~ I had thought the day that I booked the movers was Monday, but I was wrong and it was Tuesday, so there was me, ready to go at 8AM Monday, twiddling my thumbs. :( :( :(
~ After the mix up was realized, the movers came Tuesday! Yay. Only I had a hair appointment set up for 4:30 on Tuesday and because I thought moving day was Monday, I never canceled it. Consequently, amidst the chaos of moving day, I kept my hair appointment, somehow, miraculously not being late. So, the result is that my hair looks FABULOUS! :D :D :D
~ My new landlord, who's this weirdly professorial type older gentleman with A LOT of hilarious characteristics that I can't go into right now, tapped on my door while the cable guys were setting up the new cable to tell me that the movers had damaged the elevator and he was not pleased. He showed me the damage, which was like a 1 inch/ inch and a half, maybe, thin gash. O.O I was like, I don't know what to do about that, and he said the movers have to pay for it, and I was like...... I did text the movers (great guys, I really love my movers) and of course they denied they did it. I emailed this to the landlord, and his response was that it was not true! With Exclamation Points! And that's where I left it. Last night when I came home I saw that the gash had been treated. OY. :( :( :(
~ I bought a new TV finally! Gone with the old box TV, in with a new 40 inch flat screen smart TV, so I can be like all the rest of the known world, really. :D :D :D
~ While setting up the new cable, internet and TV for me, the cable guys discovered that my brand new TV was damaged in shipping. :( :( :(
~ I bought the TV through Amazon, so the return has been easy, and a new replacement TV is on it's way to me soon! Let's hope this one isn't damaged, too. :D :D :D
~ Speaking of my new landlord, he uses one of the apartments on the second floor as an office, and in the directory of the building outside (you know, where you get buzzed in) it lists his office apartment under the name Geomancy, then his name. Geomancy is some kind of study/divination practice of the placement of buildings or something. I think he might be a wizard! ? ? ?
~ My new apartment is a loft apartment with a spiral staircase! That I really hope I don't totally wipe out on and accidentally kill myself. It's actually not any bigger in terms of square footage, but it has high high ceilings, laminate flooring on the first floor, two bathrooms, and a better kitchen. And most importantly, central air. There's also a pool and a "gym." (if 2 pieces of equipment can be called a gym). :D :D :D
~ Rents in the Los Angeles area are out of control! I should have moved a year ago. I'm paying right at the top of my budget for this new place, and it still needs a good updating to match the price I'm paying, imo. OY. But, anything less came without parking or laundry or something. I might be living off rice and chicken for a while. :/ :/ :/
~ This sounds like one of those radio commercials, but I switched auto insurance to Geico and I'm saving like $70 bucks a month, which, with all the added expenses right now, is really useful. I did have to drop my loan/lease payout option, though, because Geico doesn't offer that, but I'm right on the cusp of not needing that anymore anyway. :D :D :D
~I do not have any serious complaints about Progressive other than with my new zip code, my insurance went up like $40. I have a high premium because I pay for my mom and she had a couple of tickets this year (not even really her fault. she got targeted by the same cop at a stop sign, TWICE, poor thing) And I was like, wha???? I'm moving AWAY from the ghetto here, and into a nice neighborhood. What? I was going to deal with it but then decided to just check around. And THEN, when I went to cancel, I didn't lie about why I was leaving, which maybe I should have, because they charged me with a $50 cancelation fee. I didn't even think that that would happen. I've canceled insurances in the past and was never charged. Googled around and saw that this is a thing Progressive does. grrr. It's probably somewhere in their t&c :( :( :(
~ I got one of those fancy stand up desks at work, so now I do the stand up/sit down/stand up/sit down game, which is actually a little hard with a sprained ankle whoops. :D :D :D
~ I've gotten no writing done on either my HL shortcut story or the couple of MCU stories I want to get done. /o\ /o\ /o\
So excited for Spectre! Still in love with MCU. It's remarkably freeing not having a TV at the moment. I'm drowning in boxes, though, and I've not had one moment to really start unpacking. . Still have furniture at the old place I need to sell/get rid of. Life without a couch is also really weird. Luckily I have a small armchair. Don't know when i'm going to be able to get a couch.

"I guess this is it," he said, looking around at his team, these three who meant more to him than anyone else.
DONE. FINALLY. Now, maybe I can get my life back.
Much love and thank you to killabeez and astolat for beta-ing and smart comments even if I wanted to argue haha. xo
I forgot how time consuming posting a story can be! As if writing it isn't hard enough. OY.
I am currently sequestered in an air-conditioned cafe. I like this place. I'm here a lot. There's a lot of us locals that just hang out here all day. I see the same people mostly. I was telling cesperanza that sometimes this guy is here who looks like he could be Thor. He comes here often and every time I see him I'm like "Oh good, Thor's here."
So, I recently switched from Tumblr Savior to the new xkit extension package because I didn't see an option to hide peoples tags with TS and even people's tags were sending me into stressed out monkey mode. And omg I loooove xkit. (you have to make sure you dl the new xkit as the original one is no longer being updated.)
Like, I want xkit for my daily life. Why can't I have a Blackout list for every day and why can't I mute people??! If I could just select a real live person's menu options and mute them when they speak, things would be golden. And hella amusing.
I finally went to see Jurassic World the other day and was prepared to be, you know, somewhat entertained, and did not expect that I would actually like it as much as I did. Damn you Pratt. I liked Owen better than Star Lord, although GotG is a better written film.
Also, I went into it expecting some sort of horrid characterization for Claire Dearing, based on the news articles that were everywhere, but I guess my expectations were pretty well low enough haha. I did want to punch whoever thought it would be a good thing to have her in heels the whole time though.
Who ever said they were rooting for the dinosaurs was spot on.
I'm sure there was more I wanted to say but I am hampered by my post-martini brain.
jesus be a rain drop or central air because I cannot breathe.
But, then, on the other hand, IT'S MISERABLE MAKE IT STOP. We are suddenly in a swampy tropics here in SoCal.
It's not so bad when it's actually raining. Then, it's kind of awesome. But it only rains enough for the humidity to rise. And then it's like death.
We are delicate flowers here in southern california. We don't do well with weather.
I went to see Ant Man. I rather liked it! Although the main thing I took away from it was a desire for an Ant Man/A Bug's Life/The Tick cross over, tbh.
( No real spoilers... okay wee baby spoilers. )
The self-indulgent mcu cap-centric fic writing continues. I soldier on, shield raised, peering with dismay at my growing word count.
ETA: hey everyone check out this article of a calendar using hot pics of veteran amputees. They're amazing.
~ I have become addicted to Whole Foods's Mighty Omega 3 Trail Mix. It has almonds, walnuts, dried cranberries, dried blueberries, and dark bittersweet chocolate. Considering I also use almond butter instead of peanut butter because I avoid legumes, I have serious concerns that I may be eating too many almonds.
~ I started doing this ab work out to Uptown Funk once a day, give or take. Yes those are teeny little gymnasts. Do not compare yourself. I modify just about all of the exercises. I also sometimes choose this other gymnasts ab work out to Who Run The World. It's about 4 or 5 minutes, nice little workout.
~ Being the only responsible adult in my family is hard. My mother was in town last week -- during that week she managed to bust up her iPad, get a second traffic ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign at the same stop sign she'd already gotten a ticket at and by the same police officer, got another ticket for having expired tags which wasn't actually her fault (we had sent in all the paper work and all but the smog check was never transmitted and then I didn't realize we never got the new reg and sticker.) Then she got a parking ticket. It's like parenting a teenager.
~ I went to see Ex Machina. ( Read more... )
~ I also went to see Tomorrowland, which is only worth it for the totally retro Disneyland art direction, and all the Disneyland references. I know Disney keeps trying to recreate the success of the Pirates of the Carribbean films. Too bad they keep failing! It's not a horrible film, though, and the character of Athena is awesome and my favorite part.
~ And before all that I went to see Avengers Age of Ultron for a second viewing. I had this long post partially written about whatever it was I was thinking after seeing it a second time (which was basically: I liked it a lot more the second time but everything I didn't like before I still didn't like and everything I liked before I f'ing loved... or something) but then I was falling asleep while writing it so it sat there unfinished in my browser for over week. Anyway, here are my big brain thoughts: ( Read more... )
~ I can neither confirm nor deny the possibility that I may or may not be writing self-indulgent Cap-centric MCU fic.
~ Have I mentioned how much I loathe being in a live fandom? This is like my worst nightmare, I'm not kidding. I finally caved and used the blackout list or whatever for Tumblr to avoid Civil War spoilers. Speculation is not my friend. Go away, all of you.
I don't know about this fandom, man, it officially has too many moving parts, and isn't going to be comprehensible for years and years (or ever, really.)
( First I talk about Agent Carter )
( And now on to Daredevil )
( Okay and now on to that ridiculous movie Avengers Age of Ultron. Some things to love, some things to go whut? )
I didn't want much from this film aside from watching them have fun, no one dying that wasn't already dead (fictional or otherwise. I'm STILL upset about Han), and a good goodbye for Paul, and I more than got all of that. Furious 7 was as OTT and ridiculous and fun as I hoped! And it was sad. It wasn't wrenching, though, and for that I am grateful. The ending was lovely and sad.
( More behind the cut. )
Bilbo: "What have I been up to? I saved Middle Earth. Became a bit of a hero."
Bilbo: "The brave hobbit Bilbo Baggins now works at a paper company."
Gandalf: "Lord of the Reams."
Bilbo: "Have you seen your ring?"
Gollum:"WHERE IS IT" (finds ring in a bowl of jello) "Oh haha hilarious."
Gandolf: "Dildo Baggins."
Bilbo: "Well, you don't chose the people you work with.... Or go on a quest with."
Tauriel: "Everybody! They've breached the walls!" *shoots arrow* *horn blows*
Bilbo: "Apparently, there are now giant spiders in the parking lot. Great day."
Gandalf: "Thall shall not pass... gas...Cheeky." *drops staff* *accidentally kills dwarf*
And now I kind of want to rewatch The Office.
I kind of wish there was away to rewatch the Hobbit and LotR films without rewatching them because omg they are all sooooo looooooong. oy.
It hit me in waves throughout the day. Spock will aways be with us, and I'm very grateful that we had Mr. Nimoy for so long. And that Spock will never truly leave us.
A friend on fb posted this pic.
- But the amusing part was when she went on for a few minutes about how she was dedicating a song to David Tennant because she was hoping he'd call her and how she'd been recently watching Doctor Who but he hadn't yet called her. HILARIOUS. I was like, "We've all been there, Patti, with the inconvenient David Tennant crush."
- From a distance, one of her on stage band members looked like BOB from Twin Peaks which reminded me that I had just recently finished rewatching Twin Peaks and I wanted to talk about it. I'd forgotten just how creepy and disturbing that show was! And just how wacked out a town Twin Peaks was. And how they constructed the character of Laura Palmer in absentia. But mostly I was thrown back to my teenaged In Love With Special Agent Cooper and Audrey Horne high school self. I spent a few days lamenting my lack of sweaters and skirts to wear and craving damn fine coffee and cherry pie and laughing over what Agent Cooper's hair does when he wakes up from a crazy dream to call his boyfriend Sherrif Truman.
- My log has something to say. I'll interpret for you. Why in heavens would anyone ever go into the woods surrounding Twin Peaks?? At one point, Major Briggs is like "I'm going to go for a walk in the woods to clear my head," and then is kidnapped by Windom Earle, and this is after he was already abducted by forest aliens from his camping trip with Special Agent Dale Cooper. Also Agent Cooper is all like I love this place! I'm going to buy a place in the woods and live there! What? Albert Rosenfeld disapproves! THE OWLS ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM! These are not your Harry Potter owls.
-Too bad the second season went so far off the rails into where even owls fear to tread but not all of the second season was bad, if not least of which because it gave us David Duchovney's performance as Dennis/Denise, DEA agent in drag. I'm tempted to say it's my favorite thing he's ever done, even more than all 9 years of The X-Files. I actually finally finished my X-Files rewatch a month or so ago. My overwhelming love for Mulder and Scully is too great for me to pithily remark on here, but let's just say the MSR feels are still going strong.
- Which, leads me to today when I nearly choked on my own saliva as I noticed a banner at my local Barnes and Nobles informing me that David Duchovney will be there mid Feb for a reading and signing. Hah!
