one more unexpected surprise.....also Aquaman
For reasons that do not bear close examination, last wednesday I took a graceful (very graceful!) tumble off a golf cart (really, you don't want to know... chalk it up to immaturity) onto hard asphalt. My hat, coffee cup and water bottle went flying. The result is I have a scraped elbow that hurt like a mofo and a scraped upper butt lol. I banged my knee and leg, too, but didn't bruise anywhere. How I didn't crack my head open, I do not know. My sunglasses stayed on my face. My friends have taken to calling me Die Hard. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In other news, I went to see Aquaman.
All right. What I wanted from this film was a damp Jason Mamoa drunkenly saving hapless humans from their own folly, and I sort of got a few minutes of that at the beginning. I could have done with more! I'm digging the whole unwilling superhero aspect of his character from Justice League. They kept most of that, so yay I guess.
The rest of the plot was so ridiculously predicable, I stopped paying attention for most of it. It was fine, really. I got bored during the battle scenes. But most of the rest of it was so pretty, I didn't much care lol. Also, my real problem with the movie was that I sided with Orm for most of the film. I mean, obviously I didn't want him killing Arthur, or destroying the planet or anything. But I'm like, yeah, kill the surface dwellers! We suck! That whole part where he tosses all our garbage and pollution back onto land was GENIUS. I mean, can ya blame 'em? No, you cannot. If there really is an Atlantis, I sincerely hope they dump all our crap back at us. I'm okay with them ruling. Go right ahead. We're not doing a good job anyway.
Stuff:
~ I kinda loved Mera (and Amber's performance in general). I did not like her candy-colored hair, however. A more natural color would have been better. It was so obviously fake.
~ I heart the little Fisherman princess. <3 The part where Orm and I parted ways was when he killed the Fisherman king. WTF Orm?! Was that really necessary?!
~ I probably wasn't supposed to but I kept going hey, it's Jango Fett! I loved the relationship between dad and son, quite a bit.
~ The whole bit in Sicily before that weird Black Manta showed up and ruined the party. I like how Arthur and Mera look so fashionable lol.
~ I don't know why I found Patrick Wilson so attractive in this. He had weird, dumb hair. But I did!
~ Finding the magic trident really didn't seem that hard...
~ The Earth's core is a cool place! I want to live there.
~ I knew like 2 minutes into the movie that Atlanna wasn't dead and would appear at the end again. But, I did like her rescuing Mera.
~ But I wanted to comb her hair. Like, a lot. She's a queen. She would not let her hair get to that state. Do they not know how to braid????
~ (typical of me to have the most problems with the hair on a film lol....it kills me every time.)
~ I could not take Black Manta seriously. I mean, he was fine at the beginning. Properly menacing. And it was a bit cold of Arthur to let his dad die like that. (although I'm not sure I blame Arthur, tbh). But I could not take that ridiculous helmet seriously. The actor who played him was fantastic, without that dumb helmet.

In other other news, all of the Highlander Holiday Shortcuts are revealed! (authors still hidden!) I'm behind on reading, but there are some gems, as always.

I thought of you re: Amber Heard's "hair," because it bothered the crap out of me for the entire movie. I found it difficult to look at anything else. WHY.
I totally was rooting for Orm.
The hellllmmmmettttt.

The end of 2018 has been.... interesting lol.
I thought of you re: Amber Heard's "hair,"
You end up just watching her hair instead of her performance. It was real annoying!
I totally was rooting for Orm.
I kept hoping Orm would have some kind of redemption at the end. Alas.
