The Marvels

Am I the only one that loved this movie?

~ enchanted with the fun "not a team" dynamic between Carol, Kamala, and Monica. Older sister, middle sister, little sister. Also, fun but unreliable aunt, steady and reliable only child, and Kamala who is just UwU eyes at everyone.

~ continue to be in love with Kamala's family, particularly her mother. Love this actress! But the dynamics between the mom and the dad and the older brother in relation to themselves and to their super-powered kid/sibling, is great. It's not suffocating, nor overly controlling. They're proud and supporting but still do their best to parent. It's a bit like how Aunty May is with Peter, but also totally different. Though where is the brother's wife??

~ the villain was fascinating to look at -- like every facial expression had me riveted -- but she was sort of your run of the mill MCU evil alien villain. The Kree are hilariously crazy though.

~ the plot is basically Carol having to deal with consequences for her actions, re both the Kree and the Skrulls. Throw in a planet where everyone communicates only by singing, some family trauma, and a lot of kittens.

~ we get a fun and cute interaction between Carol and Valkyrie that I think was there solely for fan service but I'm not complaining. Also the actresses are obviously fond of each other and I'm perfectly okay with them teasing their fans with the possibility of more. Valkyrie shows up to help rehome a bunch of Skrulls that just lost yet another planet to the Kree. Where is Valkyrie taking the Skrulls? Who knows! I assume to New Asgard. Where I hope they are better off than the other Skrulls on Earth.

~ sekret to [personal profile] killabeez Okay so at one point there's all these mysterious pulsing red brains that are appearing on Fury's space station and no one knows what they are but then they "hatch" and it turns out to be baby kitten flerkins. 100s of them. And then it's mass kitten chaos when they all hatch at once, which is exactly like the scene I wrote in Earlth Laughs In Flowers with Methos and Duncan herding kittens if that scene took place in space and if the kittens had tentacles and were bigger on the inside and could swallow you whole and then spit you out. They had kittens crawling all over Nick Fury! 😂😂😂

~ for that scene alone I will love this movie. Especially everyone terrified of the kittens but there's an announcer over comms instructing all personal to "LET THE FLERKINS EAT YOU. IT'S SAFE. DO NOT RUN AWAY FROM THE FLERKINS."

~ I do wish we had more time in the film to spend with Carol and Maria and Monica and the achiness there. They could only briefly touch on it, enough to do a smidge of work in healing before the ending pulled Monica very far away and out of reach.

~ speaking of the ending, Monica gets pulled into an alternate dimension, as you do in these kinds of things, and ends up in a universe that's more X-Men than Avengers. But, she wakes up next to Maria as a Captain Marvel who doesn't recognize Monica as her daughter. Waaaah. But it was cool to see Maria again, looking effing fantastic I should add. Oh, and Hank was there.

~ and then the other ending has Kamala following in Fury's footsteps, approaching Kate Bishop to form her own team, which pleases me.
