stuff(ing) and nonsense - Happy Thanksgiving!

1) Turkey dinner achieved
2) I would like to say I worked on my HL Holiday story but I did not *nervous tentative smile*
3) Hawkeye viewing achieved (very fun! I love Arrow Guy <3)
4) Went to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and let me just say Scott Lang deserves to be sexiest man alive. Rudd was way too handsome and adorable in that film.
5) I know I keep saying this but work is nutso. one person quit and another person got fired. my work load doubled lol. *nervous tentative smile* I got a glowing review though, so there's that.
6) Went to see Eternals, which I liked very much but did not fall in love with as much as I have loved most other MCU films. Read more... )
7) I continue my love affair with Obi-Wan Kenobi. But, I gotta be honest here. Star Wars as a fandom is so ouchy. It's just heartbreak with a side of heartbreak. MCU is sunshine in comparison. Star Wars is like here have a puppy and watch me KILL IT HAHAHHA DARK SIDE RULEZZZ. That's basically what it's like.
8) I bought blue light filtering glasses and i like them but I'm not used to wearing glasses for hours so that's taking some getting used to. I'm not sure it's helping?? But I look cool, and that's important.

this is not a birthday post

okay I lied it totally is

1) I rode a sassy mare this morning. [personal profile] killabeez says her facial scars give furiousa vibes!

b) sushi will happen at one point

tres) i'm off from work for a week! i hardly know what to do with myself. mom has booked an appointment in a harmonic egg (a very mom thing to do). all I can think of is I wish it were mork's egg from mork & mindy.

IV) I rewatched The Falcom and The Winter Soldier all in one sitting, all 6 hours. And, if you have the time and the inclination, I highly recommend to do that! I loved it even more than watching it the first time and personally think the lead up to the ending links together better when you at least watch the last 3 eps all together. Spellman said he broke the story in 3 acts to be a 6 hour movie and then rebroke it into 6 episodes with a 5 act structure. Good lord.

There was more I wanted to say about TFATWS but I don't remember what it was. Probably complaining about complainers. That's my thing right now.

5) I watched Julie and the Phantoms and season 9 of American Horror Story at the same time. Just after finishing watching Supernatural. And I've decided they all exist within the same universe. Do not contradict me. GHOSTS ARE EVERYWHERE. Some of them might even be dancing and singing.

VI) Speaking of Supernatural, I watched the Aronofsky film mother! and immediately thought of Chuck. lol.

siete) I am loving The Bad Batch on Disney +, the new Star Wars, Clone War adjacent animated tv show about the defective clones. It's great. I love it. A +++

ocho) complaining )

I forget what nine was for) How awesome was that Venom 2 trailer, huh? I am excite.

TEN TEN TEN) Can't wait for Loki! Though, dude, I am finally going to get Black Widow. It's been a long year. Whooooo.

11) I am half vaccinate! soon I will be full vaccinate!

12) someone stop me from compulsively checking my work email. bah.

pie for breakfast

How about some good old-fashioned writing avoidance? I feel like it's been a year since I posted last but it's only been three months. Er...maybe that is a long time.... It's because writing, work drama, and mom drama, have eaten every space of my brain that's available. Nothing truly bad although the second car accident was unfortunate...

that's no gouda

anyone remember Leslie Nielsen? Spy Hard was a terrible movie, but I have never forgotten that one dialogue exchange:

"You're gonna look like swiss cheese when they find you."

"Oh. That's no gouda."

:D Classic. *eats a slice of gouda"

~~~
Things, in no particular order:
~ Had to take the mom to the ER Thursday night. She had a spike in blood pressure and panicked, or panicked and then had a spike in blood pressure. Take your pick. The result is she had a panic attack and high blood pressure, and due to her history of aneurysms, panicked even more because she felt like her brain was gonna explode, so we went to the ER. Only thing was she over medicated herself with blood pressure medicine so by the time we actually got into triage her blood pressure was down. But because she has had aneurysms, they said she should have a CT Scan. So, we were there until 4 am.
~ In case anyone was wondering, trying to write in the ER is hard. Especially if you're stuck on a scene.
~ Still went into work the next day because I had just gotten assigned a delicate claim that needed immediate handling. (read: asshole high uppity up writer needed attention)
~ the CT scan was fine. Her blood work is fine. She's fine.
~ While waiting for the scan, somewhere around 2 in the morning, mom was like, let's just go home. I was like oh no, lady, we're here till the bitter end.
~ A little while ago my bosses at work said, okay, you've legitimately have a lot on your plate, we're going to reassign some stuff. Only problem there was, the other two co-workers that have the same job title as me were away on vacation and/or had a death in the family, so that plan actually only lasted 2 days lol. Thanks for the break, which did nothing, and actually you will be the only one handling everything for 2 weeks yay? At this point I'm like whatever. It's fine. BRING IT ON MOFOS.
~ I'm coming out of this smelling like lilies, so I guess that's a good thing. Everybody loves me. Because I don't complain and still manage to tread water. And in truth, with how things are, it's a bit, "all hands on deck" right now.
~ Back to writing, I am at 30k words! SAY WHAT. Still not half way finished I don't think good lord help. How do I get out of the 1970s?
~ I know I say this every time, but seriously, I am once again writing a totally self-indulgent MCU story that no one but me is going to like. Why change things now?
~ I'm resigned to not finishing the story any time soon. It's definitely not getting done in the next week, before the double whammy of Endgame re-release and Spider-Man Far From Home. And really the only reason to try to finish before would be in case something in the new material throws a big wrench in the writing works.
~ Still haven't turned on my TV in weeks. Meanwhile everyone lost their collective minds over Good Omens. As was only totally inevitable, considering the combined duo of Tennant and Sheen, lets be honest. I once again have to overcome my weird Tennant love/hate issues lol, but i've admired Sheen since his incredible performance in Frost/Nixon, so that's all for the good. But who knows when I'll get around to actually watching GO, at this rate.
~ So, I did go see Dark Phoenix. Curiosity won out -- I wanted a cool Jean Gray film. And, Read more... )
~ I also saw the new Men (and Women) in Black International. Thoroughly enjoyable and largely forgettable lol. :D I am here for Chris Hemsworth/Tessa Thompson buddy team ups though. I'm not picky. Also also, Emma Thompson (oh hey, just noticed the same name thing neato) was pretty much incandescent in every scene she was in and if people aren't slashing her with Tessa's character, there is something wrong with this world.
~ I have procrastinated enough, and now must get back to the 1970s.
this post is full of nonsense!
I had been composing a post, in my head, that I had entitled "complain complain complain" but it was full of me complaining and I got bored with it, and it never got out of the internal dialogue stage of post-making.
So, there's this post instead. Full of nonsense.
1. We are now four days out from CA: Civil War and I remain about 98% spoiler free! \o/ Basically I don't watch TV and only squint at tumblr. None of my real life friends cares one iota about the MCU. Although there was that one time I was at dinner with a bunch of friends and someone brought up the CW trailer and I was like GOTTA GO TO THE BATHROOM BYE.
2. 'Course I probably just jinxed myself.
3. Today at the car dealership, on some morning talk show, a couple of the MCU actors were there promoting the movie and I was like "oh no you don't" and had my headphones on in a jiffy. But I was momentarily struck by how weird it was to watch these particular actors being interviewed. And then I realized that I had gotten so used to seeing them only in gif format on tumblr, where that was more normal than regular video. OY.
4. One of the things I wanted to complain about was the dearth of Sam/Steve fiction out there. Why isn't there more? WHY? Feel free to rec me some Steve/Sam, although I feel like I've been pretty thorough in my searches. Preferably not also as part of Steve/Bucky or another pairing because of reasons. Not that I don't love them all, because I DO, I really do.
4.a. I admit I have picky tastes.
5. Also if anyone has any good recommendations for Steve/Thor? I tried checking out the pairing tag on AO3 but got dispirited at what seemed to be only cracky/gimicky type stories all wildly ooc, but maybe I missed something.
5.a Also, also, I've come to accept that I will always be out of step with fandom at large -- I only play in a fandom sandbox if I love canon and it seems to me that most everyone else plays in a fandom sandbox *despite* canon.
6. I rewatched all of Star Wars, from the prequels to Clone War to the original trilogy to TFA. And this is what I learned: a) Obi-Wan Kenobi is my favorite character, b) the Emperor has got some serious long con game skills yo. Like, the man has patience. c) having the force is more trouble than it's worth, d) Clone Wars is by far the better, more comprehensive part of the stories pre-original trilogy, e) JJ Abrams should not be trusted with science. not even with fantasy science. I know there's hand wavy explanation for why everyone in every system can see the starkiller destroy that one system but it's dumb. At least the trilogy kept to it's own logic, but TFA is kind of all over the place. f) but even with that, which honestly pulls me out of the story every time, TFA is a lot of fun if only for Rey and Finn. And sometimes Poe.
7. I've started writing a new book and... you guys, writing is hard.
8. I am deeply amused by the billboard around town for Neighbors 2 (and jeez, was there a Neighbors 1???) because it's like EXACTLY the same as the billboards all around town for CA Civil War. EXACTLY THE SAME. Honestly I'd almost prefer the plot of Neighbors 2.... haha. Okay not really. But kind of yeah.
Wow that was kind of complainy after all. :/
things of a peculiar nature
Here is a list:
~ I have become addicted to Whole Foods's Mighty Omega 3 Trail Mix. It has almonds, walnuts, dried cranberries, dried blueberries, and dark bittersweet chocolate. Considering I also use almond butter instead of peanut butter because I avoid legumes, I have serious concerns that I may be eating too many almonds.
~ I started doing this ab work out to Uptown Funk once a day, give or take. Yes those are teeny little gymnasts. Do not compare yourself. I modify just about all of the exercises. I also sometimes choose this other gymnasts ab work out to Who Run The World. It's about 4 or 5 minutes, nice little workout.
~ Being the only responsible adult in my family is hard. My mother was in town last week -- during that week she managed to bust up her iPad, get a second traffic ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign at the same stop sign she'd already gotten a ticket at and by the same police officer, got another ticket for having expired tags which wasn't actually her fault (we had sent in all the paper work and all but the smog check was never transmitted and then I didn't realize we never got the new reg and sticker.) Then she got a parking ticket. It's like parenting a teenager.
~ I went to see Ex Machina. Read more... )
~ I also went to see Tomorrowland, which is only worth it for the totally retro Disneyland art direction, and all the Disneyland references. I know Disney keeps trying to recreate the success of the Pirates of the Carribbean films. Too bad they keep failing! It's not a horrible film, though, and the character of Athena is awesome and my favorite part.
~ And before all that I went to see Avengers Age of Ultron for a second viewing. I had this long post partially written about whatever it was I was thinking after seeing it a second time (which was basically: I liked it a lot more the second time but everything I didn't like before I still didn't like and everything I liked before I f'ing loved... or something) but then I was falling asleep while writing it so it sat there unfinished in my browser for over week. Anyway, here are my big brain thoughts: Read more... )
~ I can neither confirm nor deny the possibility that I may or may not be writing self-indulgent Cap-centric MCU fic.
~ Have I mentioned how much I loathe being in a live fandom? This is like my worst nightmare, I'm not kidding. I finally caved and used the blackout list or whatever for Tumblr to avoid Civil War spoilers. Speculation is not my friend. Go away, all of you.
I just did something that was totally outside my comfort zone! eeeee. *flaps hands* *squirms a lot*
I have to keep reminding myself that if I can ride through a horse bucking and be okay afterwards, then I can do "scary" things with confidence. I can! I really really can. eeeeeeee. *hides immediately afterwards*
In other news, life is good but busy and I have fannish stuff to talk about but it's not going to be today because I have to go do my shift at the barn where I get SWEAT A LOT because summer has decided to grace us with its presence.
