anyone remember Leslie Nielsen? Spy Hard was a terrible movie, but I have never forgotten that one dialogue exchange:

"You're gonna look like swiss cheese when they find you."

"Oh. That's no gouda."

:D Classic. *eats a slice of gouda"

~~~
Things, in no particular order:
~ Had to take the mom to the ER Thursday night. She had a spike in blood pressure and panicked, or panicked and then had a spike in blood pressure. Take your pick. The result is she had a panic attack and high blood pressure, and due to her history of aneurysms, panicked even more because she felt like her brain was gonna explode, so we went to the ER. Only thing was she over medicated herself with blood pressure medicine so by the time we actually got into triage her blood pressure was down. But because she has had aneurysms, they said she should have a CT Scan. So, we were there until 4 am.
~ In case anyone was wondering, trying to write in the ER is hard. Especially if you're stuck on a scene.
~ Still went into work the next day because I had just gotten assigned a delicate claim that needed immediate handling. (read: asshole high uppity up writer needed attention)
~ the CT scan was fine. Her blood work is fine. She's fine.
~ While waiting for the scan, somewhere around 2 in the morning, mom was like, let's just go home. I was like oh no, lady, we're here till the bitter end.
~ A little while ago my bosses at work said, okay, you've legitimately have a lot on your plate, we're going to reassign some stuff. Only problem there was, the other two co-workers that have the same job title as me were away on vacation and/or had a death in the family, so that plan actually only lasted 2 days lol. Thanks for the break, which did nothing, and actually you will be the only one handling everything for 2 weeks yay? At this point I'm like whatever. It's fine. BRING IT ON MOFOS.
~ I'm coming out of this smelling like lilies, so I guess that's a good thing. Everybody loves me. Because I don't complain and still manage to tread water. And in truth, with how things are, it's a bit, "all hands on deck" right now.
~ Back to writing, I am at 30k words! SAY WHAT. Still not half way finished I don't think good lord help. How do I get out of the 1970s?
~ I know I say this every time, but seriously, I am once again writing a totally self-indulgent MCU story that no one but me is going to like. Why change things now?
~ I'm resigned to not finishing the story any time soon. It's definitely not getting done in the next week, before the double whammy of Endgame re-release and Spider-Man Far From Home. And really the only reason to try to finish before would be in case something in the new material throws a big wrench in the writing works.
~ Still haven't turned on my TV in weeks. Meanwhile everyone lost their collective minds over Good Omens. As was only totally inevitable, considering the combined duo of Tennant and Sheen, lets be honest. I once again have to overcome my weird Tennant love/hate issues lol, but i've admired Sheen since his incredible performance in Frost/Nixon, so that's all for the good. But who knows when I'll get around to actually watching GO, at this rate.
~ So, I did go see Dark Phoenix. Curiosity won out -- I wanted a cool Jean Gray film. And, Look, I broke up with the X-Men movies ages ago, for reasons that boil down to not being much of a Charles or Erik fan, which seemed like a prerequisite. But I always WANT to like these films, because everyone besides Charles and Erik, this roster of mutant characters, are the coolest. The actual mutants that are not Charles and Erik (and Logan who also gets far too much attention but I do like him more than C and E) are all AMAZING, with the most incredible powers. But they get so very little space at all in each film, no time to breathe, because so much of this franchise revolves around the same political struggle over and over and over again and Charles/Erik and their same dynamic repeated over and over and over again, so, well, I get bored. This film kind of teases you that you're gonna get more time with characters that are not Charles and Erik, but then you get right back on that C/E train again, literally. Still, I really loved the space mission at the beginning. I LOVED Storm (my fave in this). Did not like Raven being killed wtf. Could care less about Charles and his angst over messing up his students like he does ALL THE TIME whatever dude. Jean's Dark Phoenix powers were pretty cool but I wanted much much more tbh. Poor Kurt looked confused in every scene. Also could not get into Scott's character at all. They cast a pretty boy that I had no interest in. Anyway, it was a superhero film with two powerful female leads who weren't really allowed to lead their own film, so that's unfortunate. It should have been the trio (or quartet if you add Storm) of Raven v Vuk, battling over Jean, and that's not what happened. They missed the heart of the film when they killed Raven. I'm okay with Jean going evil, but then she's not really allowed to go really evil, and she's not allowed to inhabit her true powers for long, and then i'm like, well fuck, what's the point of this movie! Oh right. Just to use Jean as an excuse for Charles and Erik to feel things again. Naturally.
~ I also saw the new Men (and Women) in Black International. Thoroughly enjoyable and largely forgettable lol. :D I am here for Chris Hemsworth/Tessa Thompson buddy team ups though. I'm not picky. Also also, Emma Thompson (oh hey, just noticed the same name thing neato) was pretty much incandescent in every scene she was in and if people aren't slashing her with Tessa's character, there is something wrong with this world.
~ I have procrastinated enough, and now must get back to the 1970s.
You know, I was thinking that it's kind of terrible that I know exactly what you mean. Man, what even is getting older.
