I have school starting tomorrow! EEEEP! I am so not ready for this, I can't even tell you. Seriously, my brain right can only handle watching OK Go on repeat.

For a week after VVC I didn't do anything (well, except for icons. I did make icons, yes), and then I realized I had school approaching at lightning speed and better hit the petal to the metal, ipso pronto, and so I have been writing these past few days in a desperate attempt to finish before tomorrow, which is perhaps a saving grace, although I am not yet done. I may finish tonight, I dare to hope. And such a silly, little, angsty wallow, it is, too. Little runt of a fic. :D Duncan and Methos are behaving quite well, I'm happy to say, and letting me hug them and pet them and squeeze them and call them George. Okay, maybe not so much with the last one.

I'm also reading, rather compulsively, historical romances, which is a tad embarrassing, but vastly amusing. Most are mediocre, I feel, but some are much better than others. I haven't read anything that grips me as strongly as a some of the P&P fan fic does, tho.

Another oddity in my life right now is that I've started rewatching the first few seasons of Star Trek: Voyager, which has come up on my netflix queue. ST:VOY is like viral, or something. I can never quite get rid of it, and it keeps popping back up, wanting to be played with, every two or three years. Very odd, but darn it if they aren't cute! I always forget how much I adore Chakotay and Tom Paris, until I watch an episode and then I'm smitten all over again. It's just about the doofiest show (okay, maybe there are doofier *looks at the SGA crowd*), but it's kinda soothing. I'm trying to decide whether to stop watching after Kes leaves or continue on. hm.

I'm also deeply amused by [livejournal.com profile] astolat's descent into Wiseguy. Bwahwahaha. Never underestimate the power of Sonny Steelgrave. Or in this case, Destina and Barkley's awesome WG vid. heeeee.

I've updated my other fiction index with my Wiseguy story I wrote for Yuletide 2005.

Also, new at chez hafital is my brand spanking new iconsbyhafital index. I've uploaded a bunch of new icons - Highlander, Wiseguy, Star Trek: TOS, Fifth Element, Shawshank Redemption, Ocean's 11, and some others. As usual, all icons are up for grabs, all bases can be altered, etc etc.

Not sure anyone really cares, but my website is down until I can get in touch with the folks at slashcity -- Just on the remote chance someone actually visits it, or something. *g*. I believe most of my fiction is available in archives and such.

While at my parents yesterday I perused (and later blithely took) the new Entertainment Weekly. Among it's usual miasma of triteness and hollywood glam there was an interesting article on Deadwood I thought some of you might be interested in.

There was also the most gorgeous picture of Naveen Andrews I've ever seen, it actually made me gasp. And that's saying something, because as much as I love attractive men, rarely do I go so far as to collect pictures of them. *g* Not since I was 13 anyway when I had a small collection of Harrison Ford clippings. LOL. I don't even do the icon thing, much.

Anyway, the article that went with the picture was really interesting, too. He's an unusual man, that Naveen. I hope he continues with this positive trend. Meanwhile, let's just stare at him, shall we?

So, an update:

-- Ever have those times in your life where you're really busy, but not busy with anything truly fulfilling? Ever have one of those months where the month is already over and yet it has just barely begun? All of February is booked solid. Of course, there's Escapade at the end, there, so yay!

-- Went to go see Neverland this weekend, finally. I cried. It was wonderful. *sniff*

-- The apartment is not any closer to being done. *g* We still need lots of things -- all the things I'd listed before, and then some. Oh, what I would do for some time and a whole lot of money. On the upside, I have a pretty new duvet cover. And FINALLY, there is cable and internet. Let the procrastination commence normally!

-- Mixed feelings about this film, Antarctica, which is in production. Currently, IMDB only has Paul Walker listed as cast, but I know that Josh Duhamel (of Las Vegas) is also attached ot the project, and possibly also Kurt Russell, but that's unconfirmed. It's a remake of Nankyoku monogatari, which I must find somehow and watch. I have mixed feelings (aside from the potential badness, despite my fondness for all three of those actors) because it makes me anxious to start/finish my Antarctica story (stories). eeeee.

-- According to Modern Drunkard Magazine, pirates like to drink. A lot. Rather silly article written by a slightly disturbing group of human beings.

Favorite bits:

A decent port, a place to call home, was important to pirates (and all other mariners) because life aboard a sailing vessel was far from a picnic. It pretty much sucked, actually, sucked more ass than a pharmaceutical lobbyist.

heeee, and also:

Pirates drank while eating, they drank while sailing, they drank before, during, and after fighting, making them the first great multitaskers. People molested by pirates routinely complained that their oppressors smelled of two things: tar and rum. While rum was the most popular beverage, these guys weren't picky. You name it, they drank it. Mead, brandy, red wine, and a hysterically awful-sounding homemade concoction of distilled grains and fish oil that I don't even want to think about.

and:

Sometimes they were forced to go sober for reasons beyond their control, and those were rotten days and nights. At other times they had such a wealth of hooch that they managed to screw up their lives in rather grand fashion. Bleary-eyed pirates beached their ships on sand bars and tore their hulls out on coral reefs. Intoxicated decision-making lead to raids on uninhabited islands and set-tos with larger and better armed military vessels. One gang got loaded on purloined French wine and killed the only guy on board who knew how to use a sextant. They sailed around in circles for days. Another time, the captain of a pirate ship got too deep in his cups and slept though his ship's capture by the British Navy. He was so shitfaced, in fact, that his captors had to hoist his carcass from the hold with a block and tackle.

See what happens when you're bored with work? You go searching for silly action figures. *g*

For the Pirates amongst us -- Anne Bonny and Blackbeard. ETA: Dude, Tub of Pirates.

Random thing 1 -- I have discovered something worse than Evanescence's Bring me to Life. That is *Karaoke* Bring me to Life. Aiiii.

Random thing 2 -- The movie of The Pirates of Penzance with Kevin Kline and Rex Smith is quite possible one of the gayest things ever. I didn't think it was possible to out queer Jack Sparrow, but damn. And now I desperately want Pirate King/Fredrick slash.

Random thing 3 -- Does anyone remember Rex Smith on Solid Gold? I was too young to watch that show, but I must have managed it somehow because I have vivid memories of it and the Solid Gold dancers. I used to work with a costume designer who claimed to have been a Solid Gold dancer. I thought that was so cool. LOL. He was this gorgeous gay guy. Man, memories.

Random thing 4 -- I haven't done any christmas shopping. This is bad.

Random thing 5 -- With Yuletide done, now it seems like ages till Christmas and New Years. heh.

I have succumbed to the lure of Netflix. Wheee :) This means I have wasted most of the work day fiddling with the queue. hee.

In other news...

-- Am still waiting for Season 5 of HL from the HL store. Bastards.

-- Have not done ANY WRITING in weeks. This is slowly driving me crazy, but I'm totally in Writing Avoidance Mode. *sighs dramatically*

-- Part of what I'm avoiding writing with is getting my computer up to vidding speed. Almost there! I can now rip and convert DVDs with ease. I could, theoretically, start vidding this very second (were I home, anyway) but for the lack of HD space. And so, I've become somewhat obsessed with ebay trying to score on a deal for an external HD. Fun! eta to say I should grovel with gratitude at Killa's feet for not only lending me the right software, but for letting me pester her with a multitude of questions. And also to Laura Shapiro who sold me her computer in the first place. :)

-- Haven't really started Yuletide story yet. Was hoping to get it going and finished before December but that looks unlikely now, mostly because I ended up with an assignment that requires me to reread a whole heck of a lot. Not complaining, but it's somewhat of a shame because I'd love to be writing now.

-- The real reason I'm in writing avoidance mode is because I feel, before I work on any more fanfiction (Yuletide aside), I have to work on some original fiction. And I'm just not in the write right headspace for that. And so, nothing gets done.

But hey, I have Netflix now! weeee.
