hafital: (Horse -- horse)
This post will unfortunately not touch on so much that I want to write about. I think I should make a New Year's resolution to post more often.

Since I returned from Scotland it seems the world has been set of fire. Also, I have watched tv, finished a draft of my next book, started a rewrite of that book, stalled on the rewrite when I had to write my HL Shortcut story, went to see a few movies, DARTH VADER HAS RETURNED MAY HE NEVER LEAVE ME AGAIN (no seriously, I am not that fannish about Star Wars, but Rogue One has given me back the Darth Vader of my childhood and I am seriously forever grateful. I do not have too many strong emotions about the prequels because at the end of the day I don't think I really care that much but it wasn't until I was in the theatre watching Rogue One that I realized how much I resented those films for how they changed my feelings on Darth Vader. Anyway, he's back. And I love him.), we had to put a dear horse down yesterday and we're all very sad and all by barn girls have been crying for two days now, I gave up gluten and dairy but am now having an allergic reaction to eating too many high histamine producing foods. oy.

Tomorrow my mom and I will go to a day spa and soak in some hot springs.

Pray that my itchy eyelids go away. And itchy other parts I won't mention. HAH.

BUT. The real reason for this hasty post is to direct all 3 of you who still read this journal to go to the Highlander Holiday Short Cuts fest on AO3.

Try and guess which one's mine! I'd give a hint but honestly it's gotta be bloody obvious which one's mine.

ALSO, I got a Highlander/Northanger Abbey x- over story, An' to the Greenwood She is Gane and it's so scrumptiously wonderful. If you have any affection for Austen and Epistolary fiction, you should definitely read it. :D :D

eta: Oh no! :(

I had only just read early yesterday morning that Leonard Nimoy was in the hospital when I later got a text from my cousin while in an elevator that he'd passed away. It was a bit of a shock, as I hadn't actually known he was that sick. Of course, he was 83, and we all must go sometime.

It hit me in waves throughout the day. Spock will aways be with us, and I'm very grateful that we had Mr. Nimoy for so long. And that Spock will never truly leave us.

A friend on fb posted this pic.

Hahaha. Omg, that subject line is naughty. But I mean double fisting in the "holding two drinks at once" meaning. Not the other, ahem, meaning. *snerk*

~~~
I am rewriting my book and it is pretty much sucking all my life force. Just so you know.
~~~

In theory, I will *somehow* write my story for [community profile] hl_chronicles, but it will be quick and dirty. Sometimes quick and dirty really works out well, though, so here's hoping!

~~~
I finished seasons 1 through 3 of Fringe. It was fun! Although I did not like season 3 as much as I loved seasons 1 and 2. cutting just in case )
I am looking forward to season 4. I can only assume things get more complicated.
~~~

Double fisting is in reference to the fact that I felt the need to hold myself back from gobbling up Star Trek: Voyager episodes all in one sitting, due to wanting to have this rewatch last as long as possible, that I started watching Star Trek: The Next Generation at the same time, to alleviate the need to watch star trek episodes. haha.

So, it's Star Trek double fisting. So to speak. A distinction I feel must elevate the reference somewhat. lol.

Things I am learning in this most recent rewatch of such treasured shows:

1. Still stupid in love with Chakotay and Tom Paris. Not necessarily together. I'm good with them apart and with others. Although, in canon, every little scene between the two of them is SOLID GOLD. I love their in canon relationship to stupid little bits. In fanfiction, it's a lot more difficult. I had forgotten just how wackadoo C/P fanfiction was. It's like one big rapefest for this pairing, and that's annoying not to mention disturbing, and rife with out of character/character bashing/ female hate. But for the few wonderful C/P fics, it's definitely a pairing that has me recoiling from a lot of the fiction. Which, whatever, it's like almost 20 years old now, so what's the use of complaining? There was excellent fiction written, so that will have to do.

2. In previous viewings of this show, I always had mixed feelings about B'Elanna Torres, but I find this time I really love her. Go figure. I think it was how in conflict she always was with herself, I don't think I was ever really able to sympathize. And wasn't particularly willing to read it in fan fiction. But it doesn't bother me now.

3. Still love Janeway in all her bad ass, glory. I think my favorite Janeway episodes so far are the two part "Year of Hell" episodes. I haven't started the episodes where she really starts to kind of go off the rails and I'm looking forward to them. So far (through season 4) she's awesome.

4. Similar to my new found love of B'Elanna, I had in previous years never liked William Riker much, but I don't know you guys, this time he makes me smile and laugh in just about every episode!

5. Data is quite possible king of the universe.

6. Picard is dead sexy. This is a universal truth.

7. Voyager (and Star Trek in general) wasn't very good in depicting romantic relationships. They're not always that great with friendships, either. They set up relationships wonderfully, but then kind of drop the ball and expect a few scenes here and there to be enough development. This doesn't really bother me, to be truthful, it's not why I watch Star Trek, or why people watched Star Trek, but it is something that's interesting to note.

8. Since Seven of Nine has come on board, I have been watching every scene with Chakotay and her, and I gotta say, that pairing has some interesting dynamics, especially if you consider that neither of the actors were probably aware that the writers would create a romance for them randomly in the last few episodes.

~~~
I have a 20 year high school reunion today. sigh.
~~~

We've had 2 ponies die in as many weeks. One from colic, the other from laminitis. :(
hafital: (HL -- Duncan)
1. Car fixed. Rental returned*. And boy does my car seem puny and plain jane after my fancy rental, but yay its back. And they made it all pretty and fixed the paint job on other parts of the car that wasn't involved in the car accident, which they totally didn't need to do. So yay. Total was less than they said originally - $2,228. I only pay $500, which will hopefully be reimbursed, yes.

b. I'm mostly all ready for my mustang trip. No cell phones, no computers**, CAMPING, temp at night gets down to 20 degrees, I don't think I'm going to bring my iPod either. The only modern convenience we'll have is our cameras. I think they set up some sort of shower for us. PRAY FOR ME. Thankfully, other people cook.

iii. I'm starting to think that the theories about Jacketed/Not Jacketed Doctor are correct. spoilers will open up cracks in time. )

quatro. I'm downloading Ashes to Ashes!! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT. I'M DYING OVER HERE. But damn, I don't think I'm going to get to it before I leave on friday. *wibble* (see what I did there? get it? QUATTRO! hahah. all right, I amuse myself.) Come hell or high water, I'll watch 24 before I leave, though.

* Yeah, so I totally scraped the rental. And no, I didn't buy the rental company's coverage. Because I'm stoopid. But, in any case, I did some admittedly amateurish detailing, and then some artful decoration with dirt, and they didn't seem to notice. whatevs.

** Apparently, someone does bring a computer and some sort of projector, so we can project our pictures on some kind of makeshift screen when we camp at night, and some guy gives talks on mustangs. Should be interesting. *g*

Today I have my last class of the semester. thank GOD. I really should get cracking on my Yuletide story.... meep.

~~~
I have jury duty next week. Which is only fitting, really, since this is the last week of classes, that the following week, I would have jury duty. It only makes sense. ppthhhht.
~~~

Netflix has a queue limit. Who knew?! And yes, I reached it, which is just ridiculous, considering how slowly I go through my netflix dvds, but you get into this Netflix kind of zen, adding DVDs, since each time you add one, they show you more you should add. Most of the dvds on my queue have been there since I started up the account!

I have my account split up into profiles - initially to share it between me and my old roommate - she could have her own profile and I could have mine. When she moved out, I kept it that way, and the profiles have formed their own personalities. One is just for tv shows. One for art house type films, and one for bigger, sillier, blockbusters. Don't ask me why I split it up this way, I just did.

Something that cracked me up while adding films to the art house profile -- I was adding a bunch of gay themed/ threesomeish type films and practically each time, Netflix would tell me to add Pirates of the Caribbean. Bwah. Made me laugh.

~~~
The purpose of this post is really just to say that I nearly choked on my bagel this morning while reading about Daniel Craig being the exhibitionist he really is.
Daniel Craig is urging movie bosses to revolutionize the James Bond franchise by including a gay scene involving the superspy in the follow-up to Casino Royale.
The heart-throb actor has also reportedly told studio chiefs he is prepared to film a full frontal nude scene to please both his male and female admirers.
uh huh. bwahahhahaa. Reminds me of an article I read somewhere recently that called it Gaysino Royale. heeeeeee.
because it keeps trying to buck me off. *g* Things are just wee bit more hectic than my usual hectic at the moment, but all in all, very good, if sort of... unformed. ('fraid I can't define that better)
I see Yuletide things are happening, and I'm glad I remember to skim my friends list at least a couple times a day, or I'd totally forget to enter in my nominations. I have, I think, settled on 5 of the 6. *quibble*
I managed to watch Lost and The Nine this week, and most of Friday Night Lights, but I had to sort of squeeze in the time to do that, which gave me a very unsatisfied TV watching feeling. Like my brain is so preoccupied with other things that its only half paying attention.
I haven't talked about BSG, but I did manage to watch the season premiere thanks to the goodness of Sci-Fi repeated it on Sunday (totally forgot to set the recorder on friday! oops. In fact, forgot to set it today. yipes). I have thoughts, but they're mostly off the EEEEE! variety. I am weirdly unable to deal with the frazzled nature of most of these TV shows these days - they are all too high intensity for me at the moment. Especially BSG. I don't know why that is because nothing is occurring in my life that should give me any kind of great angst other then perhaps not having enough time to rest properly. *shrug* Probably low grade stress I don't even register. I've always tended to be oblivious to stress.
After reading [livejournal.com profile] killabeez's Darkest Hour (which more on later, when I have time to process. "Loved it" doesn't begin to cover), I'm totally jonesing for some big, sweeping, Highlander Duncan/Methos stories. Anyone reading this, recommend your favorite, all time, epic D/M stories? Pretty please? Help me, my brain is fried.
Lulu is my new favorite word. Thank you Tim Gunn!
I indulged in a little retail therapy yesterday and bought two new tops and a new purse. woo. Of course, when I showed the purse to my co-horts here at work, they all laughed at me. They did! Because it's exactly like my other purse... But that's what I wanted. heh.
So, after all my talk about giving up on tv this season, I made an honest to goodness concerted effort to watch Friday Night Lights last night. Why? Three reasons: why I watched FNL )
My thoughts on FNL )
I will be watching Lost tonight. :)
So, at work I had to deal with a certifiable crazy person and it's kinda put me off my game. I'm all out of sorts! I'm this far away from being threatened. meep.
~~~

I've given up on TV this semester. I have not watched one live TV program besides Project Runway (Michael! EEE!) since long time now. Thank GOD BSG is repeated like a million times (which is also the blessing of Project Runway), and if worse comes to worse I can download it from iTunes (I do not know the mysteries of these torrents you all speak of). Lost will also be a challenge, but I'm gonna try. I keep missing Family Guy and this makes me annoyed - Family Guy is the best show on TV.

But, really, my love for live TV has pretty much vanished. I don't know why, although my split attention with grad school probably has something to do with it, but I'm not in the least bit excited about anything. And not only that, I'm just not *into* TV - in the sit down and watch because it's primetime kind of way. I think I miss Alias. In fact, I know I miss Alias. It was comfort food, and never disappointing to me. Lost might pick me up again, but it's really such a fraught show, it's not like Alias. It's not pretty crack - it's wacked crack. If 24 were on, I'd probably be good with that (which is like cracked crack), but that's not till January or something.

Despite this, I am watching stuff, making a valiant effort to go through my Netflix DVDs with some constant regularity. I'm still rediscovering ST:Voyager, which continues to make me loveydovey. It's that comfort food I'm missing. I've watched some good movies, too, which maybe I'll make a post about sometime.

sigh. *dives back into work*

Why can't I just get a job writing fan fiction??? LIFE IS SO UNFAIR! I COULD FREELANCE! IT WOULD BE SO AWESOME! Except with so many fabulous writers writing fanfic, I probably wouldn't be able to get a job. bwah.

~~~
I keep imagining the cast of LotR in various roles in Temeraire: The Movie!! and it's cracking me up, at the same time that it's making me giddy. EEEEEE!
~~~

I'd like to thank everyone who's commented on Do Not Lay Heavy On My Heart (and incidentally, could I have chosen a longer title? eegads). You all make me blush and I'm very very pleased with the silly little angsty melodrama. It's precioussss, yessss. Also! Duncan and Methos? ADORABLE OMG. How can they continue to be so lovely and gorgeous?

People have asked about a sequel, and honestly, I have thought about it. I thought about it when I was writing the darn thing, but the problem with a sequel is that it can only really go to one place - and that place is scary! And also obvious, kind of a cheap trick. I think the story works better alone. If I wrote a sequel, it would take away a bit from DNLHOMH (good lord, that title's too long!). I dunno. I'm mostly just rambling to myself, here, because I have itchy fingers and I'm writing a lot of original fic right now. At this moment, there will be no sequel. Ask me again next week. *g*

~~~
Thanks to the lovely and generous [livejournal.com profile] melina123 I have watched the director's cut of The Kingdom of Heaven, which I want to do a more extended post on. Right now my reaction can be summed up as: Gosh, that's a lot of fun and my GOD why is Al Siddig not in EVERYTHING?
I'm right back to my usual up too late and sleeping in way past the alarm clock. Oh well! It was nice for the few days it lasted. I certainly got more writing done during that time, too. *sigh*
Way back during New Years I had a resolution that I would go to bed at a decent hour - but that's come to naught. I have no self discipline.
