Day 22 - Favorite series finale

I had to think about this one for a while and then I realized I sort of answered it already by accident in a previous post. The Office UK not only has my favorite kiss, but it also has one of the most satisfying endings for a televisions how I've ever watched. I literally jumped up and down with glee.

Most TV shows, even the ones that end really well, I always want more, or somethings could have been done better, or there are things left unresolved (and that can be good or bad), or there's a longing, or a sadness (again sometimes good and bad), but The Office UK is the only show I can think of that ends perfect. There's not a wrong step, and I've rarely been more thrilled, and more happy and just plain satisfied. And I was also happily done. I didn't particularly need more, or want more, it was just absolutely perfect.

Other finales that come close:

Ashes To Ashes -- Bittersweet, and heartbreaking, but so well done, and all the questions were answered!

24 -- I could not have asked for a better final season, or a better finale for 24. The acting was stunning, the characters were soaked in blood but alive and what's more true to themselves. My one regret was that Tony wasn't there, but clearly Jack's off to go find him. YES HE IS. After 8 seasons of torture, betrayal, death, and sacrifice, it was awesome to witness the end of pretty amazing tv show, and watch it end well.

Day 21 - Favorite ship

I'm assuming by "ship", we mean any pairing? I never know what qualifies as a 'ship. Is it canonical, is it het pairings or slash pairings, is it any pairing at all, is it only a 'ship if it has a certain amount of fiction/fans? Can I, by virtue of having two people get it on in a story, thereby declare it a 'ship? This 'ship business is silly. lol.

This one's going to be without supporting evidence. The answer's fairly obvious, in any case. :) Why yes, my favorite 'ship is indeed Duncan/Methos. I could go on and on about why, but the main reason is simply that I like them a whole lot. One might even say that I adore them, and they're cute, and fun to write. And as a pairing (and a fandom), there's a lot to mine and explore.

And there are several runners up:

Chakotay/Paris (enemyslash? really?)
Kirk/Spock
Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy (oh wait, that's not a TV show...)
The Doctor/Rose (yes yes, go ahead and make fun of me)
Jack Bauer/Tony Almeida
Vinnie Terranova/Roger Lococco
Elizabeth Swann/Captain Jack Sparrow (oh wait, that's not a TV show, either...)
Sydney Bristow/Michael Vaughn
Alex Drake/ Gene Hunt
Dorothy/Ozma (oh wait...)

And probably several others that I'm blanking on.

Day 20 - Favorite kiss

I think most of what I would consider a "favorite kiss" have occurred in film, not television. I'm thinking of the great kiss in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang or Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann.

But, here are a few kisses (and not kisses!) that stay with me. kisses! )

Day 19 - Best TV show cast

A good cast is not only about acting ability. It's a lot more subtle than that. Chemistry is important, of course, but that's a given. Harmony is needed, but that's also obvious. You need all those things, but you also need more, you need less, you need something else. Sometimes I think you not only need chemistry amongst your actors, you need chemistry amongst your characters. You need chemistry between the showrunners and the material being written. And in all of this, you need FREEDOM. In short, you need a lot of luck. You can have the best cast in the world, with the best chemistry, with everyone getting along, and the show can be crap. It's all very undefinable.

For me, I think I choose to answer this question by picking those TV shows for which my affection for the cast (of actors, of characters) just bubbles with love.

The first that pops up in my mind are the cast of both Star Trek: Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager. Both of these shows are flawed, and the cast was not perfect. ST: VOY in particular became somewhat fractured as the series continued, but they're near and dear to my heart, and I love them truly. For ever and ever.

Also, Alias. I love this show. I loved it from the very beginning, to the very end, and a large part of that was the cast.

Leverage must be mentioned, because I want nothing more than to draw hearts and flowers all over that cast and hug them and squeeze them and call them george and play dress up with them and feed them, and pet them.

However, at this moment, I think the winner to this question has to be Ashes to Ashes. It has a core cast of 5, and they were all, every last one of them, OUTSTANDING, all the way through. I should probably say more, but I'm still processing all of series 3, which I inhaled practically all in one go on Monday.

Day 14 - Favorite male character

Maurice Lalonde, from Highlander, naturally.

KIDDING. haha. I funny.

All right, all right, my favorite male character is non other than this guy. [personal profile] killabeez said all the reasons why in her post here. Anything I say will be redundant. He is Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. There can be only one! But there can also be a few runners-up. *g*

5 other male characters that I love, too )

Day 15 - Favorite female character

This one is harder for me as I love to gather female characters close and cherish them equally.

Awesome Female Characters are Awesome )

Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching

I dunno, sometimes I wish there were less people watching. Like for Doctor Who, I could lop off whole limbs of that fandom. It needs a trim. lol. sorry, unpopular opinion.

Also, sometimes I wish more of my people were watching a show. There are plenty of people watching 24, but I have not much in common with them, or they play elsewhere, not in my little circle. But I'm not sure I really want *more* people watching, either.

So far I'm rather failing at this question. haha.

Um, let's see... Oh, I know! Ashes to Ashes )
hafital: (HL -- Duncan)
1. Car fixed. Rental returned*. And boy does my car seem puny and plain jane after my fancy rental, but yay its back. And they made it all pretty and fixed the paint job on other parts of the car that wasn't involved in the car accident, which they totally didn't need to do. So yay. Total was less than they said originally - $2,228. I only pay $500, which will hopefully be reimbursed, yes.

b. I'm mostly all ready for my mustang trip. No cell phones, no computers**, CAMPING, temp at night gets down to 20 degrees, I don't think I'm going to bring my iPod either. The only modern convenience we'll have is our cameras. I think they set up some sort of shower for us. PRAY FOR ME. Thankfully, other people cook.

iii. I'm starting to think that the theories about Jacketed/Not Jacketed Doctor are correct. spoilers will open up cracks in time. )

quatro. I'm downloading Ashes to Ashes!! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT. I'M DYING OVER HERE. But damn, I don't think I'm going to get to it before I leave on friday. *wibble* (see what I did there? get it? QUATTRO! hahah. all right, I amuse myself.) Come hell or high water, I'll watch 24 before I leave, though.

* Yeah, so I totally scraped the rental. And no, I didn't buy the rental company's coverage. Because I'm stoopid. But, in any case, I did some admittedly amateurish detailing, and then some artful decoration with dirt, and they didn't seem to notice. whatevs.

** Apparently, someone does bring a computer and some sort of projector, so we can project our pictures on some kind of makeshift screen when we camp at night, and some guy gives talks on mustangs. Should be interesting. *g*
hafital: (Horse -- horse)
This weekend, I had pilates (@ Hutch's apartment, wheee! Not sure I'm ever going to get over that...), followed immediately with a Western riding lesson, and then a bareback riding lesson the next day. I was rather worried I wouldn't be able to walk today. haha. But, aside from being a little sore all over, it's not nearly as bad as the first days after starting horseback riding.

Here's the crazy thing I'm considering: buying a twelve pack of riding lessons, which I would need to use up in one month, plus a four pack of pilates. That's 3 lessons plus one reformer pilates in one week, for four weeks.... why, yes, that is kind of crazy. But, here's the thing, western is really not that strenuous. Bareback can be a bit hard on the thighs, but it's really more about learning balance, and after this weekend's lesson, I feel like having that class on a regular basis at least for a while would be very beneficial. And then, I want to add in a training dressage class, as well.

There's no way I could possible pay for this for more than one month. :D

~~~~
Meanwhile, I have notes for edits on the book that are percolating, while I hammer out a synopsis. woo!
~~~~

No, no, I admit it. I have a problem allowing myself to do nothing. Inevitably, the busier I get the more productive I am. When I have nothing to do, I get nothing done. Is that weird? Seriously, I actually have a tendency to panic if I have nothing to do, and immediately look for ways of getting busy again, doing *something* even if it's just going to a cafe with my computer and a book, or taking a walk. *twitch*

~~~~
So, am I the only one that' seriously disturbed by the prevalence of the use of the word "cougar"?? I want to stab people each time I hear it being used, which is ALL THE TIME it seems.
~~~~

Dare I get excited for Doctor Who? Also, Ashes to Ashes is almost here, right? WHEEE. I am so looking forward to more Gene Genie.

what had happened was...

~ Highlander story of doom midway through beta. whee! My boys. They are mighty fine and dandy.

~ I muscled my way through all of Ashes to Ashes series 2. I kind of loved it. Except, I found it really stressful. I dunno, Leverage is about the level of stress I seem to want to handle at the moment and Spoilers make the Gene Genie beat you over the head with a lead pipe ) This is all to say that I rather ridiculously love Gene Hunt in the same way I love Roger Lococco. Love them, think they're kind of crazy hot, don't want to have anything to do with them, ever. He's a great character and fascinating and if the bad guys were breaking down my door, I'd want him there to beat the crap out of them.

~ Best friend and roomie S has left me for two weeks on an Eastern European Vacation. I'm so jealous! I wish I could have gone with her. She's visiting countries I've already been to, so I couldn't really justify it. Besides which, I'm broke. bah.

~ I finished watching all of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Sadness! I waited a long time to watch the final two episodes because I didn't want it to end. :( I've started DS9 and I'm looking forward to finally getting to watch it properly, and to get to the parts when it starts to get interesting.

~ I keep almost screwing up at work. yoinks. Oh well. At least I catch my mistakes.

~ I got back on a pony this weekend after taking the last week off due to bruised hand. So, that's good. Still trying to figure out what I want from all this.

~ Leverage is my happy place. I started watching season 1 again. *facepalm* This could potentially be a problem. lol. eh, it's like candy popcorn, and I'm licking the bowl. I'm reading fanfic and find most of it already full of character tropes but I'm still reading (when I can. stupid work) because I'm hoping for a few diamonds in the rough. When do episodes come back?

~ Speaking of candy popcorn, for the love of mike, when is the next Doctor Who special airing??

~ And, because it can never be said enough, Duncan+Methos=WIN

Shaken off my funk (wow that sounds rather dirty) and so here I am to talk about Ashes to Ashes. I've seen the first 2 episodes so far.
