Shaken off my funk (wow that sounds rather dirty) and so here I am to talk about Ashes to Ashes. I've seen the first 2 episodes so far.

Okay, so, this is what I'm settling on for noms for Yuletide. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with this this year. Bah.

Eyes
Northanger Abbey
Emma
Roman Holiday
Oz Books - L. Frank Baum

And then I have a roving 6th spot: I have a complete, deep, irrational fear that Ocean's 11 won't be nominated by other people even though it's a Yuletide fav every year and so I might just give it to O11. Hustle I know is being covered by others, as I'm fairly sure is Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I decided to axe North and South because it's really too obscure; there's no point. This allows for Emma, which deserves some love. I'm in a flush of Oz love, for some reason, and I asked for Roman Holiday last year and I would still love to see a Joe/Anya or even a Joe/Irving. Flight of the Conchords was my gift last year and Gosford Park was my gift the year before that, as was Wiseguy. I may still want to request WG; the requests are gonna be a whole other ball of wax.

Life on Mars finale )

~~~
In other news, I hear something about a Doctor? Anyone else hear this? I don't know, might not be important. clicky click for my reactions to that totally unimportant DW spoiler whatever, yadda yadda. )
I leave you with "Who Pooped in the Ballot Box?"
Awesome #1: I'm a bit embarrassed how often I've watched [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's new Doctor Who companion vid of companion awesomeness OMG!. It's somewhere in the double digits. You don't have to be a fan of DW to enjoy. Be sure to read the notes.
Awesome #2: Annie Cartwright! Annie/Sam. *GLEE*
Awesome #3: I've started to reread all of the L. Frank Baum Oz books, starting with The Wizard of Oz, which is my least favorite of the books, I admit, and I always forget how amazingly violent it is (hello, the Tin Woodman hacks at the wolves and beheads them! Tolkien had nothing on Baum. Also the Scarecrow twists the necks of all the crows and tosses their dead bodies aside. Goodness!). It's written in such a light, simple, declarative style that it undercuts the inherent gruesomeness of the whole thing, not to mention the emasculated male/withered old hag/young simple girl bizarreness. But still, Dorothy? Made of AWESOME.
Awesome #4: I have the 2 disc North and South BBC production waiting for me at home. Bring on the repressed British manly man costume drama! I'm all over it.
Awesome #5: Michael Franti.
I leave you with some Gibbisms.
Jack Sparrow: Mr. Gibbs.
Gibbs: Captain.
Jack Sparrow: We have a need to travel upriver.
Gibbs: By "need," do you mean a trifling need? Fleeting? As in, say, a passing fancy?
Jack Sparrow: No, a resolute and unyielding need.
Gibbs: Come on, lads! Lift it like a lady's skirt!
Gibbs: Well, slap me thrice and hand me to me mama!
Gibbs: Look alive, men! It's not for naught it's called Shipwreck Island where lie Shipwreck Cove in the town of Shipwreck.
So, as I continue with Life on Mars, I find myself ruminating on glorious bastards and their curious appeal. I can think of two right off the bat: Al Swearengen and Gene Hunt. What are others? Characters who, really, you probably should run away from if you ever met in person but who are still inexplicably (or explicably) hot. Roger Lococco? So that's three. Any others?
(Personally, I think Gene Hunt is a right old teddy bear in comparison to both Al and Roger, but then I'm only two episodes in to LoM. DO NOT SPOIL ME.)
