Shaken off my funk (wow that sounds rather dirty) and so here I am to talk about Ashes to Ashes. I've seen the first 2 episodes so far.

-- The clown scares the bejeezus out of me. Especially with the running like the terminator from T2. /o\

-- I liked Alex Drake in 2008 but having a harder time warming up to her in 1981. Unlike Sam, she has the "advantage" of knowing a little bit about what has happened to her, even if she's wrong about that (and we don't really know) but it makes her condecension to the others less sympathetic than Sam's, imo. Still, from her POV, she's in a coma/been shot in the head and none of it is real. I can't blame her for being a bit difficult and crazy-seeming about it. Also, with her daughter waiting for her, Alex's stakes are higher than Sam's.

-- Holy mommy/daddy issues, batman. Both shows!

-- I appreciate the excessive attention to 80s decor/costume; it's almost too much, though. It's like constantly living in a Jordache commercial.

-- Still rather finding the plots easily predictable, but I'm not really watching for the plot anyway. I suppose, this way, I can dismiss them and concentrate on the relationships, although I'm not getting a strong Gene/Alex vibe yet, though it's a bit early still for them. I'd shoot myself in the head (hah!) before I consider Gene with either Ray or Chris.

-- I'm surprised Ray is even more revolting in A2A than in LoM. *g* Lordy. Chris is still adorkable: he's just cautious!

-- So, I really like Gene Hunt, but what's with the OTP hero-worship all of a sudden? With the swelling music and camera angle build up and stuff. I guess they know who their hit character is. *g* What's next? 1993?

-- I miss Sam. :( Despite thinking having him dead in this reality is the right thing to do, vis a vis Alex, I miss him. I miss the dynamic between Sam and Gene.

-- I miss Annie even more, and the sweetness of Sam/Annie. :( :(

-- I miss the 70s. *g* 1981 is a colder, frostier, less inviting than 1973.

-- I'm undecided about Shaz, but I LOVED her at the 80s dance club all Pat Benetared out.

-- In conclusion, well, I'm enjoying myself, intrigued by Alex Drake -- I like her strength and how she pushes back at Gene and makes him bend, I like all that. I love the changes we see in Gene -- I can see how Sam has changed him and I LOVE that, so much. There's something about either the character of Alex or the performance that's keeping me at bay, though, so we'll see if I can get a bit more involved. I'm eager to watch the whole thing regardless, just to see how the writers structure the series.

I was the same but warmed to Alex much more in another two or so episodes.

I figured it's still early to make a verdict one way or the other.
