I'm sorry to hear about Stephen J. Cannell's passing, although I am grateful for the time he was among us and celebrate his life. Wiseguy remains at the top of my short list of outstanding television, and that first season has yet to be matched, imo.

And pooh, my Wiseguy icon is on LJ.

Day 29 - Saddest character death

Copying [personal profile] killabeez, since I don't particularly have a current television obsession at the moment, I'll answer this question first.

Let's cut away, just in case )
hafital: (Oz -- dorothy and ozma)
Day 21 - Favorite ship

I'm assuming by "ship", we mean any pairing? I never know what qualifies as a 'ship. Is it canonical, is it het pairings or slash pairings, is it any pairing at all, is it only a 'ship if it has a certain amount of fiction/fans? Can I, by virtue of having two people get it on in a story, thereby declare it a 'ship? This 'ship business is silly. lol.

This one's going to be without supporting evidence. The answer's fairly obvious, in any case. :) Why yes, my favorite 'ship is indeed Duncan/Methos. I could go on and on about why, but the main reason is simply that I like them a whole lot. One might even say that I adore them, and they're cute, and fun to write. And as a pairing (and a fandom), there's a lot to mine and explore.

And there are several runners up:

Chakotay/Paris (enemyslash? really?)
Kirk/Spock
Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy (oh wait, that's not a TV show...)
The Doctor/Rose (yes yes, go ahead and make fun of me)
Jack Bauer/Tony Almeida
Vinnie Terranova/Roger Lococco
Elizabeth Swann/Captain Jack Sparrow (oh wait, that's not a TV show, either...)
Sydney Bristow/Michael Vaughn
Alex Drake/ Gene Hunt
Dorothy/Ozma (oh wait...)

And probably several others that I'm blanking on.

Day 20 - Favorite kiss

I think most of what I would consider a "favorite kiss" have occurred in film, not television. I'm thinking of the great kiss in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang or Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann.

But, here are a few kisses (and not kisses!) that stay with me. kisses! )
hafital: (HL -- Duncan)
Day 14 - Favorite male character

Maurice Lalonde, from Highlander, naturally.

KIDDING. haha. I funny.

All right, all right, my favorite male character is non other than this guy. [personal profile] killabeez said all the reasons why in her post here. Anything I say will be redundant. He is Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. There can be only one! But there can also be a few runners-up. *g*

5 other male characters that I love, too )

Day 15 - Favorite female character

This one is harder for me as I love to gather female characters close and cherish them equally.

Awesome Female Characters are Awesome )

You know, sometimes Overheard in NYC really knows how to brighten my day.

20-something girl correcting her friend's text message: No, you don't need an apostrophe there. It's "hos," plural, not "of or pertaining to a ho."

In other knews, for reasons that are too ridiculous to discuss, for work, I have had to read the Wanted comic book, watch the film, read the friggin' script, and also play the video game. THIS DOES NOT PLEASE ME.

I gather the point of the comic book was to be as insulting as possible, but I've rarely encountered something more distasteful. The film hardly resembles the comic book, however; I don't know why they even bothered saying it was based on the comic book. Not that I care, because I most decidedly DO NOT CARE, it just makes my job a little bit more annoying than it already was.

And then I had to play the stupid game. urg. People envy this part of my job, and it's a shame that I, who is at best indifferent to video games and at worst actively dislikes them, is stuck doing it. lol.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] linerys, I'm feeling very Wiseguy at the moment. mmmmm, Vinnie.

I'm bored and I have a heap of work to do. So, for no reason other than it makes me happy, I feel like making a list of my top ten fannish loves, one for the men, and one for the women.

Men:

1. Duncan MacLeod (Highlander)
2. Methos (Highlander)
3. Roger Lococco (Wiseguy)
4. Tony Almeida (24)
5. Captain Jack Sparrow (PotC)
6. Fitzwilliam Darcy (P&P)
7. George Knightley (Emma)
8. Henry Tilney (Northanger Abbey)
9. Jack Bauer (24)
10. Captain Jean-Luc Picard (ST: TNG)

*cough* Um, 2 Immortals, 2 Captains, 3 Regency Gentlemen, 3 Government Agents. What this says about me, I don't know and I'm scared to find out.

Women:

1. Elizabeth Bennet (P&P)
2. Elizabeth Swann (PotC)
3. Sydney Bristow (Alias)
4. Amanda (Highlander)
5. Michelle Dressler (24)
6. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
7. Ozma (Oz Books)
8. Martha Jones (Doctor Who)
9. Rose Tyler (Doctor Who)
10. Donna Noble (Doctor Who)

yay, lists are comforting.

Dude, that rhymes! hah.

Name fifteen favorite fannish pairings (het/slash/canon/fanon), and ask people if they notice any common traits/tendencies in the pairings you choose. Try to pick different fandoms.

I was tempted to put Duncan/Methos fifteen times. lol.

1. Duncan/Methos (Highlander)
2. Dorothy/Ozma (Oz books)
3. Jack/Tony (24)
4. Vinnie Terranova/Roger Lococco (Wiseguy)
5. Kirk/Spock (Star Trek... oh heck, either incarnation)
6. Tom Paris/Chakotay (ST: Voy)
7. The Doctor/Rose Tyler (SUCK IT, LOSERS) (Doctor Who)
8. Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy (Pride & Prejudice)
9. Mary/Parks (Gosford Park)
10. Danny Ocean/Rusty Ryan (Ocean's 11)
11. Sirius/Remus (Harry Potter)
12. Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth Swann/Will Turner (what?) (Pirates of the Caribbean)
13. Catherine/Henry (Northanger Abbey)
14. Sydney/Vaughn (Alias)
15. Harry/Gay Perry (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang)

I notice no tendencies other than I'm possibly cracked in the head.

I never hardly ever do these things -- they usually require too much thinking for a friday, to be honest -- but I like the 'list 5 characters'. Lists are good:

Name 5 dead characters you'd like to see resurrected

This is very similar to the List 5 Character deaths that really affected me fannish 5 from a while ago. This is a much tougher question -- many deaths affected me, but I'm not sure I want to see all of them ressurected, per se, just willy nilly. Some deaths are important. Although NOT Sonny Steelgrave's. He can be resurrected.

In no particular order... cut for spoilers, namely 24, in case Merry is still watching. )

hafital: (ST:TNG -- Picard)
Last night I watched the Star Trek: Next Generation episode Who Watches the Watchers, which has always been an episode to love -- "we must not anger The Picard!" Naturally, a bronze-age race of proto-vulcans would start a religion based on a fuzzy, two-minute encounter with Picard. Who wouldn't? Shoot, I'd get behind a religion that worshiped The Picard. I think I might be there, already.

This thought dovetailed to my current devotion to Tony Almeida and the already existing Almeida Is God [Dot] Com. There should be a Picard Is God website!

I'm loving all this blasphemy.

And then I started trying to figure out what other characters rise to the level of God, for me, at least:

AlmeidaIsGod (naturally) (eta: upon further reflection, it behooves me to note that JackBauerIsGod, but that's rather a gimme)
PicardIsGod
SonnySteelgraveIsGod
RogerLococoIsGod (Wiseguy is perhaps the only show that is peopled almost entirely by gods. I would venture to say FrankIsGod is not an unknown religion. And I'm sure MelProffitIsGod is thriving, even if it's only Mel Proffit worshiping himself.)
DesmondHumeIsGod
ConnieMurphyIsGod (There should be more women on this list!)

Strangely, I do not think either Duncan or Methos should warrant an "is God". They're already near godlike in their natural state, just by breathing, although I'm tempted to say MatthewMcCormickIsGod and also ConnorMacLeodIsGod. The same with the Doctor -- he doesn't need an "is God" -- and I feel the same with most characters on Doctor Who, with the very important exception of Donna Noble, who is probably lord supreme over all: DonnaNobleIsGodOfAllTheUniverseAndBeyond[Dot]Com.

It's rather a feeling of total love, of bubbling affection, of complete adoration, of pure devotion regardless of the winds of television (or any other kind of) writing. It's different than BSO love. I venture to say it's purer than that. *g*

Can anyone think of others?

So, as I continue with Life on Mars, I find myself ruminating on glorious bastards and their curious appeal. I can think of two right off the bat: Al Swearengen and Gene Hunt. What are others? Characters who, really, you probably should run away from if you ever met in person but who are still inexplicably (or explicably) hot. Roger Lococco? So that's three. Any others?

(Personally, I think Gene Hunt is a right old teddy bear in comparison to both Al and Roger, but then I'm only two episodes in to LoM. DO NOT SPOIL ME.)
