For weeks I've been meaning to post! Everything is pretty okay on my end, though still in that weird WFH limbo of sameness that I dislike the most from this pandemic. As much as I hated the Trump administration at least it gave me something to push against during this weird time, but now I am just like Tuesday what is Tuesday?

It's not even Tuesday, it's Thursday. What the hecking heck. The weeks are only separated by my horseback riding lessons on Saturdays -- I still work on Saturdays to take the edge off of the workload -- and the fact that I hibernate more than usual on Sundays lol.

Tonight I am going to go see Jungle Cruise and am excite about it. Never enough Dwayne the Rock Johnson in my opinion.

~~~
All right. I've watched some TV recently.
Hannibal )
Agents of Shield )
Leverage: Redemption )
Okay that's enough yammering.
~~~

I went to see Black Widow 3 times in the theaters and I don't regret it at all. It is now among my favorite MCU films, joining The Winter Soldier and Thor Ragnarok.

I also went to see The Green Knight which is a trip. I don't know what the heck I watched. It's beautiful though. And Dev Patel is so handsome in it. Stunning visual film.

I saw this on tumblr, but thought I'd post it here instead.

OTP Meme:

Choose 5 OTP’s without looking at the questions, then answer the questions. Tag 5 people if you want. Or don't tag. I'm saying threesomes are a go.

1. Alec Hardison/Parker/Eliot Spencer
2. Duncan MacLeod/Methos
3. Janeway/Paris
4. Mulder/Scully
5. James T. Kirk/Spock

So, this is where we're at:

~ Mom's gall bladder surgery SUCCESS. woo hoo. The surgery itself was a breeze but she was very sick afterward from the drugs for a couple of days, but she was pretty much a new woman 2 weeks after the surgery.

~ I love my mom, but after a more than a month long visit staying with me the entire time, I almost wept with happiness and relief when she finally returned to her home. Seriously, I was giddy with FREEDOM. It's been a couple of weeks now, and I'm still just over the moon when I get to be home for an evening and I get my apartment to myself. lol.

~ While Mom was here, we watched all of Haven on Netflix. I just love their faces. It's not in the least bit like Leverage (and in my opinion Leverage is a more neatly held together show and has a stronger family theme that makes it TOPS in my book) but it hits the exact same happy spot in my heart as Leverage. Could be the threesome thing. Probably. ;)

~ I finally (finally) caved and started an X-Files rematch on Netflix. I blame Tumblr. But, you guys, this is monumental! I watched X-Files first run in college and now I am older than either DD or GA were when they were on the show. It's a total mind boogie. But I have not watched these episodes in the meantime. I have not watched some of these episodes in more than 20 years. OY.

~ So, like, when I first started watching X-Files way back long ago, I watched it fully in the Mulder camp. I mean, that I believed what he believed. I was like poor Mulder, no one believes him! Why is everyone so mean to him! (Although I loved Scully and never minded that she was a "non believer") Now, I'm watching it, especially season 1, and I'm like whoa, Mulder, pull it back some there, not everything is alien related. Except that it kind of is.

~ I find, 20 years later and with the advantage of some age, that Mulder was way too trusting and that Scully was absolutely right to be as skeptical and non-believing as she was. However, the show is written in such a way that Mulder is always right even when he doesn't have the right to be, and that makes Scully, as the skeptic, always wrong, even though she is really always totally right. It's kind of annoying. As the mytharc progresses, though, most of that starts to even out.

~ But in actually, my love for Mulder and Scully (Mulder/Scully!!!), goes deep. Like cellular level deep. Part of my genetic make-up deep.

~ Scully FTW. ILU SCULLY. "Please explain to me the scientific nature of the 'whammy'."

~ The cockroach episode is still the most revolting hour of TV ever.

~ I am also having a lot of fun joining in on the Highlander Rewatch over at [personal profile] killabeez journal. Season 1 should just be renamed the 'Tessa Is Better Than You' tv show.

~ It's like I'm stuck in the 90s! Which is I guess an improvement from that time I was stuck in the 70s.

~ Along with the X-Files rematch and the Highlander rewatch, I am totally enjoying the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Clearly I have a thing for found families! Not certain if this will survive the upcoming films -- this isn't a TV show but it's still very much a "live" fandom where things could still go sideways -- and also it's like years out. Not sure I have the staying power all the way into 2019 or whatever.

I guess the trick to getting me to watch broadcast television[1] again is promising me more 24, Jack Bauer, and Chloe O'Brian. The last time I watched a TV show as it aired was season 8 of 24. So! Yeah.

You probably think I'm at a disadvantage. I promise you, I'm not. )

~~~
In other news, I am in line edit hell. Someone come rescue me.
Also, quite without intention, I have become absolutely in love with Leverage. I never finished watching it past midway through season 2, and even when I started watching it again on Netflix, it wasn't until seasons 4 and 5, and the character growth shown in the final season for all the characters, and the basically canonical threesome that I actually began to pay attention, and had to rewatch again. I love shows like this, low stress, found family, characters stay in character but still grow and change, and they so clearly love each other. It's like a big love fest.
Maybe I'll talk more about why I love Leverage, and how more TV shows would do better to emulate at least the character consistency. I mean, as a writer and a creator of content, I can't say now much Leverage pleased me. But, right now I have to get back to line edit hell. oy.
~~~

Lastly, I highly recommend Jon Favereau's new film Chef. It was delightful.

[1] except for the Olympics. The Olympics will always get me to turn my TV on.

~~ In this town, it's hard to ignore/avoid the brouhaha over Jay Leno and Conan O'Brian. Quite frankly, I don't give a hoot but it's being commented on everywhere. And I can't help but complain because didn't we already go through this with Letterman and Leno when Carson stepped down? When's the tv movie about this one coming out? (and yes I did see that movie, don't ask me why, because it was horrible) I mean, srsly, ppls. So, it's slightly different this time, but still basically the same. WHATEVER.

~~ Okay, so, I admit it, I have a total crush on Jay Smooth. Have to thank [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza for introducing me to him. Jay Smooth, on Haiti:

~~ Sherlock Holmes )

~~ So, wonder of wonders, I actually sat down and turned my TV on and watched an hour of live TV the other day. That would be Leverage, yes indeed. And it was delightful. slight spoilers )

what had happened was...

~ Highlander story of doom midway through beta. whee! My boys. They are mighty fine and dandy.

~ I muscled my way through all of Ashes to Ashes series 2. I kind of loved it. Except, I found it really stressful. I dunno, Leverage is about the level of stress I seem to want to handle at the moment and Spoilers make the Gene Genie beat you over the head with a lead pipe ) This is all to say that I rather ridiculously love Gene Hunt in the same way I love Roger Lococco. Love them, think they're kind of crazy hot, don't want to have anything to do with them, ever. He's a great character and fascinating and if the bad guys were breaking down my door, I'd want him there to beat the crap out of them.

~ Best friend and roomie S has left me for two weeks on an Eastern European Vacation. I'm so jealous! I wish I could have gone with her. She's visiting countries I've already been to, so I couldn't really justify it. Besides which, I'm broke. bah.

~ I finished watching all of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Sadness! I waited a long time to watch the final two episodes because I didn't want it to end. :( I've started DS9 and I'm looking forward to finally getting to watch it properly, and to get to the parts when it starts to get interesting.

~ I keep almost screwing up at work. yoinks. Oh well. At least I catch my mistakes.

~ I got back on a pony this weekend after taking the last week off due to bruised hand. So, that's good. Still trying to figure out what I want from all this.

~ Leverage is my happy place. I started watching season 1 again. *facepalm* This could potentially be a problem. lol. eh, it's like candy popcorn, and I'm licking the bowl. I'm reading fanfic and find most of it already full of character tropes but I'm still reading (when I can. stupid work) because I'm hoping for a few diamonds in the rough. When do episodes come back?

~ Speaking of candy popcorn, for the love of mike, when is the next Doctor Who special airing??

~ And, because it can never be said enough, Duncan+Methos=WIN

I didn't think it was possible to overdose on horses. haha.

I'm canceling this weekend's lesson. I need a break, I'm way behind on some stuff that's super important, and my hand still hurts from whatever I did to it last weekend when Bart bucked me off. I saw my instructor tonight while I was working at the stables and he said Bart's been a dream every since. Hasn't caused one lick of trouble. I'm like, of course. Of course he's been a peach, model horse. grrr. *g* Anyway, I was like can't ride this weekend and Instructor Guy seemed understanding when I showed him the bruise on my hand. I don't know why I feel guilty when I cancel a lesson. wtf, brain.

ETA: Also, someone please point to where they keep the good Elliot/Hardison or Eliot/Hardison/Parker (or Eliot/Parker, Hardison/Parker).

Well, it's still morning *here* and that's what counts.

-- I got up at the asscrack of dawn this morning (i.e. 6 am) to have an extra riding lesson this week because I have my second dressage show on Sunday. It was good lesson, over all, but I've been in this weird place with horseback riding for the last few weeks in that I kind of really need to take it to the next level because as it is right now I'm riding once a week, if that, and not really advancing as much as I'd like, but 1) money is a problem, and 2) time is another big problem. I don't have much extra time and as it is right now I feel like I'm at the equestrian center constantly since I started student working (which I really do like, but it's exhausting). Bah. I don't have a solution for this. When am I scheduled to win the lottery again? Someone update my calendar.

-- I was doggedly continuing with Primeval series 3 but have stalled out three episodes before the end. The last one I watched had do people care about spoilers? )

-- I am a disk and a half from finally finishing the audiobooks version of Outlander. Christ that's a long book.

-- Cousin of Mine came over last weekend and we watched some more Doctor Who. Series 3 up through "The Family of Blood". (I unapologetically *ADORE* "42", so I was happy just to watch that episode). I would have loved to have ended with "Blink", just to send him home jumping from shadows, but alas the night grew too long. After months of not paying attention to anything New!Who, I was like, "oh. you again. all right. I do like you, you daft tv show you."

-- Accidentally discovering the magic of Netflix's instant streaming, I started watching Leverage season 1 (I'm up to The Two-Horse Job. Don't spoil me!) I love it like pumpkin pie. I was skeptical, since it looked like a Hustle rip off, and I loved that show and miss Mickey Stone a great deal, but I quite frankly didn't stand a chance once the team got together. lol. In which I compare Hustle to Leverage a bit and then comment on stuff, as you do. )

-- (sekret to killa. I'm almost done! No really! Maybe I'll even finish tonight! Okay, okay, tomorrow is more likely, but a girl can dream.)

-- Ever lose complete track of time sense and weather sense when writing? In my current story, I have no idea what time of the year it is any more. d'oh. I gotta go back and track it. sigh.

-- So ti ti zzzzzzzz. Why did I schedule an early morning riding lesson on the same day I have to work from 6pm to 9:30pm?? I'm going to be a zombie.
