~~ In this town, it's hard to ignore/avoid the brouhaha over Jay Leno and Conan O'Brian. Quite frankly, I don't give a hoot but it's being commented on everywhere. And I can't help but complain because didn't we already go through this with Letterman and Leno when Carson stepped down? When's the tv movie about this one coming out? (and yes I did see that movie, don't ask me why, because it was horrible) I mean, srsly, ppls. So, it's slightly different this time, but still basically the same. WHATEVER.

~~ Okay, so, I admit it, I have a total crush on Jay Smooth. Have to thank [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza for introducing me to him. Jay Smooth, on Haiti:

~~ I saw Sherlock Holmes a few weeks ago, and have been meaning to comment on it, but it's been hard to be lj motivated lately. Anyway, I really liked it. Don't think I'm being bitten by the H/W bug like so many of you, but quite honestly, anything with Robert Downey Jr. in it is an automatic win for me, so I loved enjoying his performance and watching him kick ass. And that's kind of all I need from the film. *g* It was the same with Ironman; I was just happy to watch him be awesome. But, Sherlock Holmes also had the benefit of one of my favorite all time British actors, Mark Strong, who was delicious as the bad guy, so that was neat. One comment I will make about this version of Sherlock Holmes is that -- as a kid I watched Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes and read all of the stories and was a pretty big fan of the character, but this was the first time I got a true sense of how alien Holmes really is (Brett's Holmes was pretty freaky, actually, but in such an austere, aloof way, I never saw him as anything other than superior-to-the-rest-of-humanity), and that if he didn't channel his extraordinary ability into his detective work, he'd probably go insane from overstimulation, and the drug use makes more sense now, than it did when I was younger and was kind of seriously disturbed by that aspect of the character. And that was pretty neat. Besides that, my only real complaint is in the unoriginality of using yet another secret society villain gone bad plot device. People sure do love trotting out the templars skull & bones masons, don't they.

~~ So, wonder of wonders, I actually sat down and turned my TV on and watched an hour of live TV the other day. That would be Leverage, yes indeed. And it was delightful. It was all par for the course, really, but still fun, and I laughed a lot, and that was nice. I had forgotten how utterly charming and silly and easy to love this show is. I appreciate that. Can't wait for Sophie to return, although I warmed up to Tara. I loved Tara in the Lost Heir Job, but didn't like her slighty condescending pat on Parker's head, but then I liked her all over again by the end of this week's episode.
