So, as I continue with Life on Mars, I find myself ruminating on glorious bastards and their curious appeal. I can think of two right off the bat: Al Swearengen and Gene Hunt. What are others? Characters who, really, you probably should run away from if you ever met in person but who are still inexplicably (or explicably) hot. Roger Lococco? So that's three. Any others?

(Personally, I think Gene Hunt is a right old teddy bear in comparison to both Al and Roger, but then I'm only two episodes in to LoM. DO NOT SPOIL ME.)

It only took me a year to get through all three seasons, but I have FINALLY managed to watch the final two episodes of Deadwood yesterday, after having the disk from Netflix for like a month or something.

thoughts behind the cut. )

eta: argh. damn it, one day I'll manage to cut away correctly. sorry!

First, a Doctor Who fic rec:

Bed Bath and Beyond by [livejournal.com profile] cjk1701. Written for [livejournal.com profile] sizeofthatthing, although not listed in their master list for some reason.

I found this doing a random search on whofic yesterday when I was overcome with a need for Donna fic (omg Donna don't leave me. *sob*). It's lovely, with understated angst, and is surprisingly hot for being more DoctorDonnafriends than Doctor/Donna. And short, as most Donna fic seems to be at this moment. Set post Midnight, no spoilers for 4x11 or 12.

(I have approximately 20,000 words left to go on my thesis. hurrah?)

This is more for myself, than anyone else. I was updating my profile the other day, sort of trimming fandoms, moving them around and stuff, and just got to thinking about what I spend most of my (fannish) time thinking about, and watching.
Highlander: )

Doctor Who: )

Friday Night Lights: )

24: )

Jane Austen )

Star Trek )

Pirates of the Caribbean )

Harry Potter )

Flight of the Conchords: )

Deadwood: )

Ocean's 11: )

Phew! Man, I've gotten no work done today.... meep. But fun! Yay my shows. I loves them lots. I didn't include Torchwood because, I just don't know about that show. I am watching it every week, which is something I'm not doing for shows I really love (and blame DW, really. [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro, you're so right about TW being methadone!) but I rather hated this week's episode, and the previews for next week didn't leave me feeling in the least bit excited. Still? I love Ianto and Rhys and Martha as long as she's on it. This may just have to be a show I sorta kinda watch for the sake of the Whoverse.

I may get back into Lost at one point, but I haven't been watching since it started back up. I plan to watch. I mean, I gotta know what happens. But, not right now and I'm not really feeling the loss. And the same thing goes for BSG, and again, not really feeling the loss. Last season was brutal, man, and kind of killed the joy although doesn't mean I don't still love it, 'cause I do. I'm in it for Admiral Adama.

Aaaanyywayyys, that's me in a fannish, er, nutshell. :D Also, GIP. Look, I has a Connor! <3 <3

How awesome is Prince? Singing Purple Rain in the rain!

It occurs to me that I'm rather upset at history right now. I feel like hiding Antony and Wild Bill.

So, for some unknown and dastardly reason, Netflix has (not once, but TWICE) jumped ahead on one of my queues and, instead of sending me the next disc (which always reads as available now, so I don't know what the issue is), jumps over all the discs of one tv show and sends me something from way down the line. This is so aggravating, when you're, like, in the middle of show! you don't want some other show's disc, you want the one you're watching, damn it. *GRRRR*

Anyway, I was expecting a Star Trek: Voyager disc (yes, still watching, still loving, and still ridiculously preoccupied with all things Star Trek. *LOVELOVELOVE*) and got disc 1 of season 1 Deadwood instead. I decided to watch it anyway, since a)I had planned on watching it eventually, just not, you know, right now and b) well, there is no b. I just figured, what the hell. It was there. Might as well watch, and although I prefer to watch things in sequence, whatever. *handwaves*

smidge of Deadwoody thoughts here: )

And back to my regularly scheduled Star Trek. Deadwood to recommence soonish.
