I'm not dead! whee!

Like really good peanut butter, things are nutty over here. But, you know, one day at a time, and all that. quick family update )

Hey! I'm going to compete in my very first jump show this weekend! Long stirrup, which is just x-rails but still. I'm excited, and hope very much that I at least don't take a tumble. hah.

~~~
Audio books I have listened to this month:
The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne (what? I never actually read it)
Tiger Eyes, Judy Blume (if I had been a little quicker on the draw, I would have nominated this for Yuletide. My favorite Blume book)
The Glass House and Half-Broke Horses, Jeannette Walls
Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea, Chelsea Lately
The Great Gatsby (what? I never read this one, either.)
The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins (I don't like the reader, which is too bad)
I tried to listen to Gerald's Game by Steven King, but I couldn't finish it.
There might have been one or two others that I'm forgetting.
~~~

I signed up for [community profile] hlh_shortcuts and I'm very excited about it! Of course I have no idea what I'm going to write, but why should this year be any different from any other year?? I'm trying to decide whether to sign up for Yuletide. I want to, but I feel that may be pushing it.

~~~
I recently inhaled all of Breaking Bad. It was good, and kind of horrible at the same time. What amused me the most, though, is how I can still see the dad from Malcolm in the Middle in Walter White. haha.
~~~

I haven't gotten around to watching the recent episodes of Doctor Who yet. ack! And I'm waiting patiently to have all of Downton Abbey series 3 before embarking on that. I did start watching Ugly Betty, which I never got around to when it was on the air, and it's just the right kind of fluff. I like it.

I'm still rolling around in Star Trek: Voyager love. It makes me stupid happy. I love even the crappy episodes! I'm almost done, though. Sad.

~~~
Um, so does anyone have really good Avengers recommendations?? I'm curious.... What are the popular pairings?
hafital: (Default)
Hahaha. Omg, that subject line is naughty. But I mean double fisting in the "holding two drinks at once" meaning. Not the other, ahem, meaning. *snerk*
~~~

I am rewriting my book and it is pretty much sucking all my life force. Just so you know.

~~~
In theory, I will *somehow* write my story for [community profile] hl_chronicles, but it will be quick and dirty. Sometimes quick and dirty really works out well, though, so here's hoping!
~~~

I finished seasons 1 through 3 of Fringe. It was fun! Although I did not like season 3 as much as I loved seasons 1 and 2. cutting just in case )

I am looking forward to season 4. I can only assume things get more complicated.

~~~
Double fisting is in reference to the fact that I felt the need to hold myself back from gobbling up Star Trek: Voyager episodes all in one sitting, due to wanting to have this rewatch last as long as possible, that I started watching Star Trek: The Next Generation at the same time, to alleviate the need to watch star trek episodes. haha.
So, it's Star Trek double fisting. So to speak. A distinction I feel must elevate the reference somewhat. lol.
Things I am learning in this most recent rewatch of such treasured shows:
1. Still stupid in love with Chakotay and Tom Paris. Not necessarily together. I'm good with them apart and with others. Although, in canon, every little scene between the two of them is SOLID GOLD. I love their in canon relationship to stupid little bits. In fanfiction, it's a lot more difficult. I had forgotten just how wackadoo C/P fanfiction was. It's like one big rapefest for this pairing, and that's annoying not to mention disturbing, and rife with out of character/character bashing/ female hate. But for the few wonderful C/P fics, it's definitely a pairing that has me recoiling from a lot of the fiction. Which, whatever, it's like almost 20 years old now, so what's the use of complaining? There was excellent fiction written, so that will have to do.
2. In previous viewings of this show, I always had mixed feelings about B'Elanna Torres, but I find this time I really love her. Go figure. I think it was how in conflict she always was with herself, I don't think I was ever really able to sympathize. And wasn't particularly willing to read it in fan fiction. But it doesn't bother me now.
3. Still love Janeway in all her bad ass, glory. I think my favorite Janeway episodes so far are the two part "Year of Hell" episodes. I haven't started the episodes where she really starts to kind of go off the rails and I'm looking forward to them. So far (through season 4) she's awesome.
4. Similar to my new found love of B'Elanna, I had in previous years never liked William Riker much, but I don't know you guys, this time he makes me smile and laugh in just about every episode!
5. Data is quite possible king of the universe.
6. Picard is dead sexy. This is a universal truth.
7. Voyager (and Star Trek in general) wasn't very good in depicting romantic relationships. They're not always that great with friendships, either. They set up relationships wonderfully, but then kind of drop the ball and expect a few scenes here and there to be enough development. This doesn't really bother me, to be truthful, it's not why I watch Star Trek, or why people watched Star Trek, but it is something that's interesting to note.
8. Since Seven of Nine has come on board, I have been watching every scene with Chakotay and her, and I gotta say, that pairing has some interesting dynamics, especially if you consider that neither of the actors were probably aware that the writers would create a romance for them randomly in the last few episodes.
~~~

I have a 20 year high school reunion today. sigh.

We've had 2 ponies die in as many weeks. One from colic, the other from laminitis. :(

Marginally more awake, and doing some Star Trek style procrastination. Ah Saturdays, how I love you.

Engage! )

Well, that was properly time consuming, and quite the trip down memory lane in regards to Star Trek: The Original Series.

I haven't watched BSG yet, so I guess whatever I have to say about that will have to wait - I'm sure you all will be waiting with bated breath for my comments, which I can assure you will be just as astounding as previous.

In other news, I caved and created a new netflix profile solely for Star Trek and added all Star Trek series' (including Enterprise, which more for curiosity sake than anything else), in chronological order. Sans TOS and sans movies, that comes to 169 dvds in the queue. Yowsa. I may add the TNG movies, although I can't bear to watch Generations, so not that one. I'm not sure I'm actually going to watch all these, but some of TNG and DS9 and Voy were already on my regular netflix queue and there's so many of them, I thought it better they just had their own queue all together. If I could afford to buy them, I would, but at $100 a pop, no way. (damn you, paramount. you suck)

Interestingly enough, I didn't add TOS on purpose. That show, I can't watch on demand, as much as I love it and love Kirk and Spock. I like to watch it when I come across it on TV - I saw the second Mudd episode the other day late at night and I was beside myself with a sudden overwhelming love - it was like finding an old friend again, for just a brief meeting on the street - but I'm not sure I can have it around, undiluted, for such a long stretch. Tres strange, but whatcha gonna do.

Anyway, this is all by way of saying that, like clockwork, I'm wallowing in Star Trek love, which happens recurring-like, every so often. Relapsing/remitting Star Trek obsession. LOL. I found Memory Alpha, Star Trek Wiki, and also Memory Beta, Wiki Star Trek non-canon. Awesome! Geeks, gotta love 'em. :D Poking around on these websites made me realize that I really should watch DS9, which I never watched when it was on the air. And somehow that morphed into needing to watch the whole franchise. *facepalm*

The person who made The Jean-Luc Picard Song also has a Worf song and a Riker song!!!! The Worf song is funny (and too long, really) , but the Riker song is a kind of fantastic commentary on the episode Frame of Mind. Trippy and weird.

And that's not all! He has links to ST:TOS based fan music: Yes, more fun than a barrel of naked Spocks.
