How about some good old-fashioned writing avoidance? I feel like it's been a year since I posted last but it's only been three months. Er...maybe that is a long time.... It's because writing, work drama, and mom drama, have eaten every space of my brain that's available. Nothing truly bad although the second car accident was unfortunate...

Good Stuff

~ I got a new office at work and it has a window! It's also bigger. My other office was a small, dark, closet. I'm supposed to get new furniture sometime this century.
~ I am *mumble* number of words deep into the Steve Gen Story. This is basically Steve is a Time Lord story. I have not stopped writing it all this time, though it's slowed to a crawl a few times because sometimes writing is hard. There has been a fair amount of headdesking going on here. I am eschewing all other writing, though I will somehow get my Highlander Holiday Shortcut story done.
~ I may need to beg someone to help me beta this motherfucker. It's so goddamn long, so you know, beta beware. And also probably not everyone's cup of MCU tea :/. It will be posted as a series, though. It's longer than a novel as it is, and I'm still not done. I'm not even pretending I'm writing this for anyone but me lol.
~ I have that AMC membership thingie so I get to see up to 3 movies a week. I only really managed 1 a week though lol. Sometimes 2 if I am actively avoiding going home. Sometimes none at all.
~ I'm digging the Justified Rewatch" over on [personal profile] gwyn's blog. :D :D :D Raylan! Tim! Rachel! Art! Oh and that n'er do well Boyd, too. <3
~ check out this
awesome pic I took from my New Office Window. that shows a square hole in the sky over the Whole Foods parking lot. People have said it reminds them of James Turrell and Magritte, which makes me feel extra fancy (and not like I had to google James Turrell at all). And while you're on my instagram, check out this weird little carrot that had a trapped soul in it. Hopefully the links work. Instagram will eventually ask you to log in because they're dicks. I should probably flock this post though... oh well, I'll do it later.
~ I've watched a lot of television in the brief moments I am not writing, but I honestly don't remember most of it. Except I thought Unbelievable was EXCELLENT. Though probably triggery for many. Also enjoyed Euphoria, but also probably triggery for many. I'm a fan of Sam Levinson's work, though. He did Assassination Nation, and I still love that movie, but I think few others did.
~ It's been raining! This is both good/bad since it puts a crimp in the horseback riding.
~ went to Disneyland last week! It was very Disneyland, which is exactly how it's supposed to be. Saw the new Star Wars land (It's too hard to remember to call it Galaxy's Edge). We had the maxpass so I have all these great professional pics, but they're only on my phone lol. I'm too lazy to upload them anywhere, so you'll have to take my word for it they're great. Especially the one where the photographer added tie fighters!
~The Millennium Falcon ride was pretty cool -- I mean it's great to be in the cockpit of the Falcon and get to fly it, and the life size Falcon is awesome, but I was not exactly blown away by Star Wars land. It looks great, but it underwhelmed as an experience.
~ My friend doesn't like the elevator ride for the Guardians of the Galaxy building and the line was too long for me to hop on it real fast, so I didn't get to see how it looked on the inside (i've been on the ride a dozen times when it was the Twilight Zone theme). The outside looked awesome though.
~because we had to change plans on which day we could go to Disneyland, and I had to reschedule when I already had days off, I ended up with 3 short weeks at work for November! This is AWESOME and you'd think I'd get a shit ton of writing done, and there has been a definite effort to do so! But see point 2 for how writing is hard lol.
~the break from work was great but it meant my work just quadrupled, so.
~But hey, Pie for Breakfast!

The Less Good Stuff

~My job duties have changed 3 or 4 times since April. The good part about this is that it means they like me, they trust me with things they don't want to give my other two coworkers.
~ And you know, I'm flattered, but that's why I disappeared for all of September, October and November, because they gave me ALL THE WORK.
~ Well, then they changed my job again, separating me from the other 2 coworkers even more, in an attempt to make it a fair work distribution or something. But it was one change too many I guess for one coworker because she then just up and quit.
~which is how I got a new office. I mean... good and bad? I don't know. Honestly she was so miserable for years, I hope it was a great freeing decision for her.
~ but that meant they had to change my job AGAIN, ironically, back to what it was before she quit, so the reason for her quitting disappeared the moment she quit. whatever. They say they're going to switch it back when they hire a new person to take her job.
~ I'm supposed to hear if I get a raise/promotion in Dec.
~ Okay this is mostly complaining about work. sorry.
~ So, now they have to fill the recently vacated position, right. And I, in my desire to spread good things, go to a coworker of mine in a different department whom I know and like and convince her to apply for the job. It's a couple of grades in pay higher than what she has now. She's unsure but decides to do it.
~Meanwhile, another coworker in yet another department emails me asking to have lunch. At lunch she tells me she's applied for the job and wants the low down. I feel a little conflicted! Also confused because I thought she was a shoe in for this other job but apparently she's not gonna get it. Weirdly she was flat out told by my boss's boss's boss that she wasn't a good fit for the job. D'oh!
~There is much more to this story, but it would literally bore you all to tears. This is actually even more complicated a situation than I have the patience to explain here. dumb office politics. But it's mostly because the execs keep trying to fix something... and change with the demands of the Board. Are they changing things in a good way?? hard to tell!! Since they keep changing things! I mean, my job has changed 3 times since April!
~ but I peeked at the folder with resumes in by boss's office and neither of these two individuals' resumes are in there so I don't know what is going on.
~ Meanwhile, randomly, my mom got a commercial acting agent. Like a real one. That was sending her out on auditions. Like a lot of auditions. Like 3 or 4 a week. SO MANY AUDITIONS. All non-union commercials but still. They were all for these like grandma/abuelita roles. Do you have any idea how unprecedented this is? How many in this crazy hollywood town would KILL for an opportunity like this? I mean. And what does my mom do? Complain. LOL. She complained so much she notified the agency to send her out on fewer auditions. And then suddenly all the auditions dried up. Because of course they did.
~ Mom said she needed a new computer. She drove me crazy researching computers she wanted. She finally bought a PC laptop, spent half a day with it, hated it, and returned it. She then said she preferred an apple computer. Drove me crazy researching apple computers. Went out and bought like a top of the line macbook pro. It's too much computer for her. She's intimidated by it (I TOLD her). Spent like half a day with it, and doesn't want to use it, said she'd give it to me (okay yay I guess lol) and then now wants a pro iPad but she wants me to buy it. Meanwhile, her ancient pc laptop that was being used for a piece of medical diagnostic tool mom has (an MSA machine) up and died, so she had to buy another PC computer for it. For those counting at home, that's the 3rd computer in less than 2 months. This may leave you with the impression mom has money to burn. I assure you, she does not.
~Never a dull moment around here.
~ETA: somehow I edited out the bit about the second car accident. Maybe I was in denial? A second small fender bender, this time with my mom's car (her driving). Unfortunately, the person she hit is claiming eggshell plaintive and personal injury. So. you know, FUN TIMES. I've never gone through this before, although I gather it takes time to fully resolve. Just what i need! *frazzle*

Okay, is that enough procrastination? :D

Pie for breakfast A++. You join everyone I know in being underwhelmed by Star Wars Land, which helps to minimize my regret over having to give up my AP/not being able to go to my happy place. The upside is, I live in a place where no one is really surprised when it rains. Except lately, because when I moved here they had a dry spell (of course they did).

Good luck with the Steve story!

I LOVED Unbelievable. I hadn't heard of it until there was a review/discussion on the NPR "Pop Culture Happy Hour" podcast, which was straightforward about how difficult the subject matter is, but also said it was excellent. So I gave it a try, and it was amaaazing--I gulped it down, the casting and acting blew my mind.

But of course, I haven't felt like it's a thing I can recommend to friends! "Here, try this true story about a young woman who is victimized by a serial rapist and then mistreated by law enforcement dudes, until finally some female cops figure shit the hell out". And yet! It was intense but very satisfying by the end. The women cop team were so great.

I then went back and listened to the This American Life radio show about the case, which came before the TV show, and THEN I went further back and read the original article, which came before the radio show, which came before the TV show. The adaptation did a really good job, handling a true story like that within the strictures of a fiction show.
