I am so tired. :)

Higher brain functions are offline for repair and restoration. Long moments are spent staring off into space, vision filled with Buffy and Faith dancing to The Discovery Channel song on the deck of the Indefatigable with Captain Jack Sparrow shouting "Men!" with Groucho and Chico Marx swinging from a chandelier while Duncan MacLeod and John Crichton desperately try and stop the earth from exploding before we all end up in Wild Palms enslaved by the Syndicate and turned into hosts for the next alien invasion. Me thinks me needs some sleep. heh. Hmmm, sleep... *slaps face awake* Right.
Um, where to start. The beginning!
Road Trip: The best time I've ever had while trapped in a car for 14 hours in the cultural wastelands known as Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana. Made even more enjoyable by the beautiful and entertaining presences of
astolat,
cesperanza, and
geekturnedvamp. Also, the shiny new ipod was a thing of beauty and much wonderment. Ah, good times.
Chicago: Fun city! cesperanza and geekturnedvamp and I ruthlessly deserted the concom to their preparations on thursday and skedaddled down to the city to cavort and poke around and be tourists. All was sunshine and roses until the entire eastern seaboard was suddenly plunged into darkness. We were mostly coolheaded and calm while having minor internal meltdowns until we got word that all was okay with loved ones back home. Mild panic attack averted! woo. Lack of food options downtown made us cranky and so we headed to the hotel where we found people and there was hugging and much fannish love.
Vid Shows: Of all the vid shows that I attended my favorites, aside from Premieres, were the Instrumental Vid show and Rarely Vidded. I enjoyed all the shows immensely, but those two stick out in my mind as particularly engrossing and engaging from start to finish. There's something utterly breathtaking about emotion set to music, without lyrics to hang onto. (well done) instrumental vids really strip this aspect of vidding down to its essence. If that makes any sense. Also, I've come to realize I'm not so much a lyrics person, that I tend to not be aware of them until I actually sit down and read lyrics while listening. This could also be why I have a hard time grasping the concept of narrative vids. And also why I suck at song choice. :)
Rarely vidded was just a great show. Well balanced between rarely vidded characters in popular shows, to rarely vidded fandoms and movies.
The other two vid shows that I remember enjoying were the Character Vid show and the Con Vid show. Character is sort of it for me. Meaning, it's basically why I'm in this glorious thing called fandom. It's why I write, why I read, why I watch the shows I watch. Vids that truly capture a character and show that character through a near perfect blend of music and moving image. Wow.
Con vids are just fun. :)
The Panels: I didn't go to too many of these, unfortunately. In fact, I think I only went to three: Aesthetics, Language of Vidding, and Professional Inspiration. Honestly, I learned a lot in each of these panels but I'm so brain fried at the moment that I'm not going to list what that was. Of the three I think Professional Inspiration was the one that really got me thinking.
The Vids:
I saw so many. My mind is mush. I'm just going to make this simple:
My favorite vid of the weekend: Superstar, by Here's Luck -- Not a Buffy fan, and woo, was that a great vid or what. When I finally got home yesterday I downloaded the song and the vid and watched it three more times. No joke.
Others that stood out from Premieres:
Uninvited by shalott, which I had the privilege to see many times before that weekend and its still as creepy as the first time.
Itsy Bitsy Spider, by Margie. Eek. :)
The world go boom Odyssey 5 vid Haunted, by Margie and Seah.
The Hornblower vid Men!, by Rache and Sandy. Yay! Again! I want to see it again!
The Perfect Way by T.Jonesy. Makes me want to run out and watch all the Marx Brothers movies.
Darkness, Darkness, by Jo and Gwyn. Certainly got me interested in Miracles.
The Shadow, by Melina. Woooo, Robin of Sherwood. Beautiful imagery.
And finally, Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego? by Killa and Melina. I love this vid. I love Amanda! I love HL. I love Killa and Melina!
Man, I'm tired. heh.
Other vids not in Premieres:
Man of Constant Sorrow, by winterfall. I love shalott for bringing me back to the Indiana Jones love. And the Harrison Ford love, too. My first crush.
Veli, by Carol S. I'd never seen this vid before this weekend and wow. speechless. I actually want to see X-Files again. Who'da thunk it.
Razzle Dazzle, by Killa and T.Jonesy. I love James Kirk. :) He's just the razzle dazzliest. I have sequins in my eyes.
Transparent, by Laura Shapiro. What I said earlier about character? This is a perfect example.
Cowboy, by Sisabet. Bhahhahaaaa! Love it. And if Angel were actually a pimp, I might watch the show.
Hornblower vid to Clandestine, by Killa. Have I mentioned I love Killa? 'Cause I do.
Benny Ellison, by Remi and Zanz. hee. Rarely do I find Sentinel vids that I really really like, but this one is just fun from start to finish.
The Rose, Starsky and Hutch vid in the Retrospective show. Shoot me, I like the damn vid. These guys are so sweet together. sniff.
Don't Fear the Reaper, by Melina. I don't think it's possible for me to get tired of Duncan vids, especially when they show his dark side. yay.
I'm the Girl, by Killa. Words cannot express how much I love this vid. Again with the character.
The End of the World as We Know It, by Lum and Kamil. I love Lum, for many reasons, but among those reasons I love her for making Buffy and Angel vids that are so wonderful and amazing, because then I don't have to watch the show. I'm immensely grateful.
Elevation, by Rache and Sandy. Remains one of two Smallville vids that actually work for me.
Bawitabawa, by Melina. Showing Melina's sweet and cuddly side. :)
Voodoo, by Rache and Sandy. Between this vid and Kryptonite by Margie and Seah, I'm halfway sold on Invisible Man, I gotta tell ya. Despite the silly hair.
erm, what else? Oh yeah, the challenge vids! I'm not going to out anybody here even though everyone was outed at the con. All five of the challenge vids were staggeringly good. Two really grabbed me: the Wild Palms vid, which is just aggravated by the fact that the miniseries is apparently very difficult to get a hold of. hrumph. And the Wesley vid to Jeff Buckley. I love it when a vid uses special effects effectively and evocatively. This vid is a perfect example of that.
There are more. Many more. But I'll stop now, so that maybe I'll finish this con report sometime before the next vividcon.
As always, the most wonderful and heartbreaking part of going to a con is meeting people, both old and familiar friends and new and familiar friends, and then the eventual tearful good byes. I spent most of the con in the company of my roommates, who are by far the best. roomies. ever. T. Jonesy came this year and I fervently hope she comes every year from now on!! Everyone needs a T.Jonesy in their lives. Got to meet Sisabet, and Here's Luck and Renenet, and Debchan, and got to hug and squeeze Rache and Sandy, Maygra, Lum and Elyn, Kat, Carol, Jackie, and, oh everyone! I'm going to stop before I burst into tears.
The road trip back was fun and relatively uneventful, although we were all near dead from exhaustion. Somewhere around 1:30 am we decided to stumble into a motel and sleep instead of pushing on through. I got into NYC around 12 noon yesterday and immediately turned around and went to work for 6 hours. 'Could have sucked a lot, but I just gorged myself on con reports and it went by quickly. Today, however, I am a zombie. :)
Immense thank yous to shalott and the entire concom for once again putting on a splendiferous con. Yay Vividcon!
