hafitalFinally managed to watch the Doctor Who christmas special. It was thoroughly charming! I mostly loved it.
A Christmas Carol:
~ Dumbledore!?
~ I wanted to know more about the world/planet that was the setting. Were we even told the name of the planet? I caught the reference to it being settled, but that seemed all the bit of history we got. I suppose it wasn't really part of the story, but it was what *I* was interested in. lol.
~ There are not enough words to describe how much I LOVE Eleven. Not a moment passed of Eleven screentime that was not golden. He is so much fun! I love him.
~ There were lot of wonderful Eleven moments, and I certainly cannot list or recall them all, but for whatever reason, I do believe my favorite moment of the entire special might just have to be the Doctor in his white tuxedo and the whole "We must leave because I maybe sort of just accidentally got engaged to Marylin Monroe," scene. But it was the 'well fine, I'll just have to marry her' part and the way he shouted, "Marylin, get your coat," and then strode purposely back past the swimming pool and to the yoo-hooing Marylin. I just... It was... I don't know! I think I love him.
~ However, and perhaps I am alone in this? I did not overly miss Amy, who was absent from large parts of the story... Although I was charmed with the whole 'The Doctor's idea of a honeymoon' thing. hah. Also, I kinda sorta hated that moment at the beginning when Amy tells the doctor not to treat her like an idiot and then she turns and does the same to Rory. I know it's done for laughs, but the cavalier treatment of the IdiotBoyfriendHusband is just SO TIRESOME already. It has stopped being funny. If it ever was.
~ I loved the fish. And the shark. I wanted more of this world!
~ The rest of the story was okay, I mean I enjoyed it for the most part, although I found the overall story less interesting than the moments within the story that had nothing to do with the story itself. Also I was confused with the aging and the time line. Abigail's sister who was *older* than Kazran in the past having such young children in the future (unless they were grandchildren?). I love the timey whimey-ness of the plot, but these sort of logisitics always throw me because I alway spend time trying to make sense of it.
~ So, I guess it's okay for the same person out of time to touch? Just, throw that bit of canon out the window? I mean it was in The Pandorica Opens and this special, too. I don't mind Moffat or anyone rewriting canon as they see fit, but at least one sentence of explanation would be nice.
~ I could have done with out the dying beautiful woman storyline. I didn't even realize she was literally 'fridged (I blame the dazzling Doctor. haha) until afterward, but what really bothered me was how self-sacrificing and perfect and angelic and wholesome and kind and everything she was. OMG, give the girl a pimple or something.
~ But lets get back to the Doctor and how lovely he is. LOVE.
(oh, look at that, I got rid of all my Doctor Who icons. hm. Oh, wait, I still have a couple on LJ. hah)
