There's a good primer on H50 here: http://thisissirius.livejournal.com/593712.html, but what you need to know to read the fic is that at the end of one season, Steve McGarrett winds up in jail, framed for murdering the governor. Danny does stupid shit whenever Steve's involved. That's it. :-)
