VividCon Vid Recs

So many people are doing rec pages that I'm not so sure mine will really add anything, since I'm mostly repeating what other people say, but hey, what the heck. These are all premiering vids. I was gonna do some non-premiering vids, but this got kind of long and at one point I do have to do some work today. You can see me run out of steam as my comments get shorter and shorter. :D
Handlebars by
flummery (Doctor Who): The first time I heard this song shortly after it was released I thought of the Doctor. I thought of the Doctor every single time I heard it after that. I bought the song largely because it defined the Doctor to me. In my fantasies, I have the patience and the time to vid, and in my fantasies I dreamed of making a vid for the Doctor to this song because I thought the song would be too popular and no one would do it, and if someone did it they wouldn't do it justice. I've never been so happy to be so wrong. I cannot tell you how thrilled I was at VVC when I finally took a moment to check out the Premieres play list and saw that not only was there a DW vid for "Handlebars", but that
flummery were the vidders. Perfect! Wonderful, thrilling, scary, frightening, heartbreaking. I love it.
Black Black Heart, by
astolat and
untrue_accounts (The Revenger's Tragedy): This is a vid to a movie starring Christopher Eccleston, Eddie Izzard, and Derek Jacobi (how's that for a cast, eh?) I feel all smug and privileged in that
astolat showed this vid to me a few weeks ago so I knew already how awesome it was, and when she showed it to me I was like omg what is this movie and how in the name of mike have I not seen it yet!?! I still haven't seen the source and part of me wants to hold off on it a little bit because I loved how this vid really highlights the tension between the characters, and the dystopian qualities of the world, and I can just *see* how CE's character slowly builds his revenge, and I love that, I love living in a vid for a bit. And also, I admit, it totally takes me to a bizarre Doctor Who AU place that's quite entertaining. *g* Mandara, astolat's Dune vid is also incredible and worth a look. It totally make me want to reread the Dune series.
Use it, by
sisabet and
caphricacorn (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang): (Not online yet. *eyes sisabet*) Why are there not more vids for this movie? This vid is great. I love it, full stop. I want to see it over and over again and sadly my life is not helping me out in this. Personally, I know this film so well, I can quote from it from memory, I've seen it I don't know how many times, so for me this vid was going to work no matter what, so I have no basis to understand if the vid works for anyone else, and frankly not sure I care because it works for ME. *g*
Try Not To Breathe by
gwyn_r and The Wanderer by
melina123 (Torchwood): As any close reader of this LJ knows, I'm not a fan of Captain Jack Harkness but I wanted to recommend these two very different Jack vids, not only because they're excellent, but because they did a little bit of the impossible and made me like him, at least for a while *g*. I think these vids compliment each other very much, coming at the character from different ends, and that in and of itself is pretty cool.
Gloria by
sweetestdrain (Sarah Connor Chronicles): I have yet to see SCC, so I don't know the source that well, but I DO know the Terminator movies -- I love them, even the last one -- and I was able to follow this vid with ease. I definitely want to see the show now. I had always planned on it but wasn't really feeling the need to rush. I'm particularly interested in the relationship between these two women, well okay the relationship between this woman and this female identified killing machine *g*. I'm also interested in the triangle of mother - son - dangerous protector. Very cool. (and while you're checking out
sweetestdrain, watch her Donna vid DonnaDonnaDonnaIloveyouDonna.)
Shut Up and Drive by
laurashapiro (Doctor Who): Yay! This vid fills me with glee. Not sure I can say more comprehensive things about it. I love the way it movies, I love the energy, I love Martha, I love the *title* which is so Martha. I just love it to little bits. It's great. My second favorite DW vid of the weekend after Handlebars.
Farewell Welfare by my own dear
killabeez (Hustle): I love these guys, I love this vid. *g* I watched it a few times last night and just grinned like a goof each time. They're so cute! I love them! I especially love this vid for how Killa shows Mickey Bricks looking damn fine. :D :D :D
Unbelievable, Yoda Is by
mranderson71 (Star Wars): Poppingjay Badass Yoda! Mess with him, do not. Who knew the little guy had it in him, huh. This vid was just a lot of fun and woke up my bizarre fondness for the SW prequels. I loved the first two, but the third one was a bit rough to take with Padme's character arc ending so disappointingly, but I do love me some Yoda, and this vid celebrates Yoda in a really fun way. wahoo.
New Slang by
obsessive24 (Friday Night Lights): This vid encapsulates everything that I love about Tim/Lyla/Jason. It's a gorgeous vid, it highlights the pain and struggles but most of all the love that persists with these three individuals who have gone through so much, who love each other and hate each other, disappoint and then again are there for each other when it counts. I really love this show -- I stopped watching it for a while but I still really just love it so much and can't help but think of it as perfect. Be perfect! This is a great vid, even for those who don't watch FNL, because it really shows the difficulties, the power struggles and problems inherent to a love triangle, to a threesome where everyone loves but maybe not enough or maybe too much. I can go on and on. *g*
Down with the Sickness by
deejay (Doctor Who): A response to the "Fuck You" challenge. The Master final love message to the Doctor.... hee. There were a few Doctor/Master vids this year, and it's not really a pairing I'm comfortable with (enemy pairings usually aren't) but I really did love this vid.
Get Low (Resident Evil movies): Oh dear, I can't remember who the vidder was for this? Anyone? Is it available online? Can't find it. *frown*. This is another response to the "Fuck You" challenge. I've loved this song for ages and was pleased to see a vid to it, and such a vid! I want to wach these films now. And I want to rewatch The Fifth Element so I can see Milla kick ass more. :D :D She's pretty. Anyhoo, revenge films are fun, and this vid really shows some of the amazing imagery, some disturbing imagery as well, and then shows the main character kick some ass. Awesome.
Never Loved A Man by
fan_eunice (Doctor Who): The other Doctor/Master vid of the weekend that I loved. It's kind of twisted, in an R&B sort of way. *g* Not really how I pictured their relationship, but funny how it works!
Woo. That took longer than I thought.
