My plans to watch No Time To Die got delayed and changed several times over the weekend. It was super annoying! But, I finally managed to watch it today.

"No, Mr. Bond, I want you to DIE!"

Still one of my favorite quotes from the old Bond films.

I realized just before the movie started that I should have rewatched Spectre or even just reviewed the Wiki article for it, because I was like what the hell happened in that movie? No memory of it. I remember the first 3 Bond films pretty well, and my favorites remain Casino Royale and Skyfall. I rewatched them at the start of the pandemic. But Spectre wasn't available or something. I remember Madeline, but I couldn't tell you want happened in Spectre. It was only until they mentioned Blofeld in No Time to Die that I was like, 'oh yeah! that guy!'" Totally forgot about him.

Casino Royale made me a Bond fan, but I would say I'm a very casual fan at this point. Still! It was all very enjoyable.

My thoughts, in no specific order:

~ how DARE they kill Felix Leiter. I do not accept.
~ I don't mind the romance but honestly if it's not Vesper, I kind of don't care. Lea Seydoux is lovely, but I wish I cared for Madeline even a little.
~ Though I did like the creepiness of the beginning scene when she was a kid. CREEPY. And she was pretty resourceful, all things considered.
~ I was wishing Bond would end up with Nomi. Dang it.
~ But I was okay with Bond having a surprise daughter. Surprise!
~ Q was very cute in this movie. I never really got on the 00Q bandwagon (I was always more wanting Bond/Leiter), but I loved it in this film. Very adorable. A++
~ The whole "eternal" nanowhatever that never leaves your system plot device didn't work for me. When Q gave Bond the EMP watch my first thought was "Oh, like, that thing will fry the nanobots, right? RIGHT????" and the fact that it didn't and doesn't is dumb to me. I call bullshit. Also, say Bond didn't die, this means that forever after if he randomly met some poor person that shared any genetic sameness to Blofeld, they would be dead. Like, how terrifying is that. You could never be sure!
~ I also call bullshit on M being all "it was never meant to be a weapon" Um, sir, wtf. Anything with weaponized deadly diseases is a BAD IDEA, whatever your true intentions are, and then trusting its development to the weird russian defector? Come on. If true, you should be tried for stupidity and gross negligence. Though, I do love M, in general. I just think no one is that dumb.
~ The evil island of nanobots also made no sense to me. I read on wikipedia that the pools were nanobots but I totally didn't get that while watching so I was just like what are those poor people doing lol. But now that I know I'm also like why do they have to stir them all the time?? That's weird.
~ Rami Malek has gorgeous eyes. It's a shame the rest of him was so gross in this film. When he was holding Matilde I was like EEEWWWWW. His desire to kill the entire world was a bit OTT (and not earned by the film), but in general I thought he made a fine addition to the other grossly scared Bond villains. Though no one beats Le Chiffre imo.
~ I did think it was a pretty tightly directed film, so kudos to Cary Fukunaga.
~ I was delighted by Paloma. Especially in contrast to Bond's antagonistic rivalry with Nomi. I kind of wanted more of that. But in truth I don't mind all the angst. This Bond was always just trying to outrun heartbreak, until it caught up with him.
~ His death was projected pretty heavily there, but I was still hoping he was going to dive off the side of the island. I think it was a well rounded way for Daniel Craig to end his tenure, even if the only thing that should be eternal in this film is James Bond! It was a very well done performance, so I accept it.
