Star Trek: Enterprise

hafitalOkay, first of all GIP!! I would embarrass myself more then I normally do anyway by describing how happy this icon makes me, so I shall only say I looooves it. *swoon*
Second of all,
1. Captain Archer is cute. So is Comdr. Tucker. And Lt. Reed isn't too bad either. And, well, and then T'Pol is scary pretty. And Ensign Mayweather is like the prettiest black man I've ever ever seen. It's a mighty fine looking crew all around.
2. They like to rub each other on this show, in their underwear. I can't say I regret this -- the half-naked rub down the crew has to perform on each other in "de-con". My only complaint? Okay, my only 2 complaints? 1) That it doesn't happen in every episode! and 2) that this wasn't a requirement in any of the previous other star trek shows! I feel jipped. WHERE IS THE CHAKOTAY/PARIS RUB DOWN SCENE!?! Seriously. Or even any of the conventional het pairings rub down scenes. I'd of settled for a Riker/Troi rub down! Would have been thrilled with a Paris/Torres rubbing each other with gel.
3. Speaking of underwear, this show likes to show off Commander Tucker in his underwear a lot. Again, why is this a trend NOW? and not also in the other shows? Unfair, I say. Not that I don't fully appreciate Commander Tucker having to combat Ferengi in his underwear. There's no end of win in that.
4. A typical scene between Captain Archer and Commander Tucker goes like this:
Archer: Trip, do this for me. *flirt flirt*
Trip: Sure, cap'n. *flirt flirt flirt*
Archer: And then, why don't you come by my mess and eat dinner with me. Oh, hey, maybe we can go down to the surface, get invited to play a sweaty game of ball, need to take off our shirts, and get all sweaty and manly and rub up against each other and stuff? What do you say? *handsome/goofy grin*
Trip: Sure thing. *grins back, bats eyelashes*
5. A typical scene between Captain Archer and Lt. Reed goes like this:
Archer: *corners Malcolm* Malcolm, what's your favorite sport? What do you like to do on your off days? What did you dream about as a child? What do you do for fun? *flirt smile flirt*
Reed: *trapped, big eyes* Fun, sir? *stoic stoic*
Archer: *side steps Malcolm's escape attempt* Yes, fun. What do you like to do for fun? Here, eat with me and tell me all about yourself. *flirt flirt FLIRT REALLY FLIRTING A LOT*
Reed: *manly british girly brooding* I'm not sure what you mean by 'fun', sir. Does it have to do with constantly begging to be the one that has a heroic death scene? 'Cause that sounds fun.
6. A typical scene between Cmdr. Tucker and Lt. Reed goes like this:
Tucker: Let's go pick up girls!
Reed: Hey, that's not a bad idea!
*two hours later, stripped to their underwear AGAIN and then TIED TOGETHER, HELLO!*
Tucker: Uh, that didn't go so well. Wanna make out?
Reed: Absolutely not. How preposterous.... Okay, sure.
7. A typical scene between T'Pol and anyone else on the crew goes like this:
Crew: Emotion Emotion Emotion!
T'Pol: The Vulcan Science Directorate has decreed that Time Travel is Impossible.
8. Speaking of Vulcans, OMG what is up?? Why are the Vulcans made to look like such unbending assholes? I can pretty much wave away all the inaccuracies I see when it comes to some of the details -- to some extent, that's to be expected when you're ret-conning to this great a degree. I'm not a purist, but good lord above and holy Surak, what in the begeezus is going on, already. It makes Archer look like a hothead just as much as it makes the Vulcans look like they have a stick the size of an obelisk up their collective butts. It's lame, and I sure do hope they ease up on that in the remaining seasons.
Pretty much the gayest Star Trek series, ever. And that's saying something.

It's like they decided that since there was no holodeck, they had to come up with another no-fail way for fanfic writers to engineer sex between two (or more) characters. You also have to love the fact that pretty much everyone on the crew strips down regularly. Equal opportunity eye candy.

Date: 2007-01-19 07:35 am (UTC)The retconning/absolute disregard for canon was what eventually turned me off the show more than anything to do with characterization (which was eventually not to my taste either). But OMG, with Trek fans, you cannot mess with your canon. That's just asking for trouble.

(For some reason, a number of them seem to involve Malcolm.)

Date: 2007-01-19 06:59 pm (UTC)oooh, I look forward to it! And, I've been spoiled for one or two things, mostly from tinkering around at the Memory Alpha website, which I think was the reason I decided to watch Enterprise in the first place.
I'm sort of over the whole "they're messing with canon" thing, to a certain extent.
