I have been adding to my Netflix queue like crazy, but I'm a forgetful flighty thing when it comes to remembering stuff I want to see, so I thought I'd ask around and see what people recommend to watch, with the hopes of jogging my memory or exposing me to films I wasn't aware of. :)

I like all kinds of movies. I like movies most people don't. I like comedies, romantic and otherwise, big budget action, dramas, foreign films, obscure independent films, etc etc.

I know there was a meme recently about movie recs so I should go back and see if I can find out what those were. Hm.

ETA:And I should say I'll take recommendations for anything I can get through Netflix -- documentaries, etc etc. TV shows as well. :)

If you haven't seen them yet,
Les Enfants du Paradis/Children of Paradise

also, if you haven't seen them:
Seven Samurai
Les Diaboliques or Diabolique (not the modern remake)
Throne of Blood
La Nuit de Varennes
Valmont
Babette's Feast
One, Two, Three
The Lavender Hill Mob
Double Indemnity

--- for some reason, all I can think of are old movies tonight

Oooh, out of all of these I've only seen Valmont (of course. Like I'd let a Colin Firth film slip past me. hah!)

I'll check them out. Thanks!

Spice World
Emperor's New Groove
Satan's School for Girls [original Kate Jackson version]

No problem!

That's just what popped into my brain first shot.

Another good option? Mr. Rice's Secret. Great Bowie flick...and it's got Teryl in it... *hee*

Hm. *eyes movie shelf*

Wings of Desire (and its sequel, Faraway, So Close!)
A History of Britain (miniseries, 6 dvds)
Neverwhere
Cold Comfort Farm
Dark City
The Transporter (I don't know why this movie isn't better known; it's one of my favorite action flicks of all time)
Hudson Hawk

Yay! Thanks. I saw Neverwhere but I think I should read the book first.

When I say 'saw', I mean I saw that it was available, not that I'd seen the series or film. d'oh. *g*

The book is, imo, not as good; Gaiman adapted the book from his screenplay, and it suffers from his main weakness - he's not good at conveying visuals in text. (He's gotten a LOT better at it as time has gone on, but Neverwhere's weak.) It's still a worthwhile and interesting read, and you get to see a bit more of Richard's interior, which is nice.

:)

But I'm a Cheerleader (RuPaul in shorts, that alone is worth seeing)
The Philadelphia Story
His Girl Friday
Free Enterprise (if only for Bill Shatner rapping Shakespeare)
Matewan (my favorite film of all time)
Lone Star
Adam's Rib
Coupling (the British version seasons 1-3; the funniest TV show I have ever seen. I laughed until my sides ached at nearly every episode)
Homicide: Life on the Streets (so well written, so well acted)

I've sen But I'm a Cheerleader. :) And it is worth it for RuPaul. heh.

Thanks for the rest. I already have Coupling on the queue, 'cause of Jack Davenport who I'm deeply in love with, so yay!

I thought about adding Homicide. Maybe I will. Thanks, hon.

I like stories with a strong sense of place and slightly bent reality

LA Story is absolutely wonderful
Dark City
13th Floor

OOOH!

And a classic - "The Women" with Rosalind Russell. A little anvilly in spots but the dialogue will kill you.

"There's a word for women like you and they don't use it in polite society - outside of a kennel."

Hey thanks! I've actually seen all of these except Dark City, so I'll check that out. And I totally and completely agree on both LA Story and The Women. The Women is acutally a great play, as well. I liked The 13th Floor a great deal, and I really like your vid, too. *g*
