1. There are people right now, down on their knees, praying and offering to The Picard.
2. Because, as a young man, he laughed when got stabbed through the heart, and lived.
3. And then when he went back in time and fixed that problem, the world was a mixed up, crazy, sad and pathetic, and just that much more boring world, so he let himself be stabbed through the heart again.
