Day 09 - Best scene ever
There are of course far too many wonderful scenes in existence to comprehensibly pick the *best*, so I shall not try. Instead, I'll just list a few that come to mind.
Star Trek: TOS -- "Amok Time"
There are some great scenes in this entire episode -- The entire fight sequence, the confrontation between T'Pring and Spock, Spock losing his cool and smashing his computer, but not much can compare with the moment when Spock walks into sick bay expecting to pay respects to his dead captain, only to find Jim healthy and alive. He's so surprised, and elated, that he takes a hold of Jim and his face is lit up with joy.
Highlander -- "Methos" and "Rev 6:8"
Really, picking a best scene from Highlander is hard! I mean, there are so many lovely moments. But two come to mind immediately. The first is that pivotal moment in "Methos" when Duncan goes to Adam Pierson's flat expecting a mousy researcher Watcher, only to find a youngish face/ancient soul of Methos, listening to music on his walkman, having a beer. The scene is portrayed and shown perfectly, from the discordant buzz as MacLeod approaches, to the close Mac POV way it was shot as he enters the loft, perplexed and intrigued at whom he might find, to the reveal of Methos sitting on the floor. The toss of a beer can, the languid, "Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. Mi casa es tu casa," the stunned utterance of Methos's name, and the graceful nod of acknowledgment. <3 <3 <3
And, of course, the other favorite scene for me is in "Revelations 6:8", after the double quickening. Methos is crippled with wracking sobs, MacLeod is incapacitated, and Cassandra is hell bent on revenge, and MacLeod has only the conviction and strength of his voice as an aid to convince her not to take Methos's head -- which, considering who she is, and what talent she has with her voice, is really significant and a well placed juxtaposition/comparison between them, and speaks to the weight and power MacLeod can yield, even from a position of weakness, when motivated. And it's not only that he's telling her not to kill him, it's that he's telling her what he wants, and that's for Methos to LIVE, and it is therefore a *command*, not a persuasion. I've always thought it extremely telling the words he uses to stop her; it's all wrapped up in the dynamics between Methos and Duncan, and Cassandra and Duncan. Cassandra! I want him to live!
24
It's impossible to choose from all of the many 'kick-in-the-stomach' scenes that are sprinkled throughout every season of 24, but here's few:
Day 1 - The scene when Senator David Palmer meets Jack Bauer for the first time. And a friendship was born.
Day 2 - I dunno, every scene with George Mason? Especially the one where he says goodbye to his son. And also the kiss of hotness between Tony and Michelle. And we can't forget "I'm gonna need a hacksaw."
Day 3 - I love Michelle with something like complete devotion, so when I think of Day 3, I always think of all of her scenes stuck in that hotel with everyone getting sick and dying form that airborn weaponized ebola thing. And that moment she controls the growing panicked mob, gun shot into the ceiling, and prevents them all from breaking quarantine. Also, this day has all those scenes of badwronghot between Jack and Nina down in Mexico. But the most alarming and heart wrenching, and difficult to watch but I can't look away scene, is of course Jack and Ryan Chappelle, alone in an empty train yard.
Day 4 - Without a doubt the best scene in this season is Tony coming to the rescue. YES.
Day 5 - I always love the scene at the end of the season when Jack has Pres. Logan all to himself and threatens to torture the president of the united states of america. Not that he didn't have it coming, the weasel.
Day 6 - EVERY SCENE WITH ASSAD IN IT. But especially that scene early on in the season when Assad and Jack first team up and they're temporarily holed up in that abandoned house. First, there's Assad's face when he sees the scars on Jack's back. Then they're trying to extract information from that captured bad guy, and Jack is shaking, and he can't do it, and he says, "I can't do this anymore," and Assad, with startling tenderness, says, "You'll remember," before he takes a knife and imbeds it into the bad guy's knee. eeow.
Day 7 - Oh, OH -- The interrogation scene of LOVE -- Jack and Tony at the FBI offices, Jack grabbing Tony by the throat, slamming him against the wall, then dry- humping him while choking him, and Tony just barely managing to whisper the code word. THEN, also, in the middle of the season, when Jack thought it was all over, and he's sitting on the steps in, um, some place in D.C. I'm sure I should know by name, and it's sunset, and Tony comes up and sits next to him, quietly telling him it's not over yet. Then, Tony gets up, touches Jack on the shoulder, then walks away.
Day 8 - Without question, the best scene of the season, of possible the entire series, certainly the best scene I've seen acted and written this year, last year, and for a good while now, was between President Taylor and Dalia Hassan, when Dalia goes to Taylor for help and advice regarding the news that the Russians were involved in her husband's murder. The power and strength, the manipulation and betrayal, the anger and guilt, the disgust, the resignation, the fury. The heartbreak. It was all there. Seriously, acting grad programs should use that scene for scene study work. You can peel layer after layer of that scene.
And, there's many more, but I'm kinda done. BED.
