I finally heard back from the computer doctor. It's the motherboard (which, I should have guessed) and it will cost about $464 to fix. I can't justify that on such an old computer, not when I could put that towards a new computer. *SOB*

I'm pretty torn up about it. I've had that thing for over 4 years, it's been with me for many many changes in my life. But, I suppose I'll manage. I didn't think it would be an easy problem.

I know some of you have purchased computers through eBay. Do you have any advice? I'm curious.

I don't have any e-bay advice, but I do recommend using pricegrabber (http://www.pricegrabber.com/). I used it when I bought my computer, and I got an excellent deal.

Go for for a power-seller with a good feedback rep if you don't need to have the latest and greatest.

I've purchased from a seller called andovercg and been happy Their shipping is a tad expensive, but they foam pack everything.

There's also dell_financial_services which has a deal with Dell to sell off-lease and/or traded in Dells. I've not purchased from them but several acquaintances of mine have and they reccomend them.

If you find somebody with less than 20 feedbacks, see if they'll use eBay's escrow service.

*nods* Thanks. I do tend to check through all the feedbacks before going with a particular seller on eBay.
