Man, is it Thursday yet? :)
Saw The Village this weekend. *Loved* it, even though I guessed one of the twists. *g* I didn't guess the other one, the "it's a farce" twist. Was totally thinking those creatures were real! Or rather, I was so in the moment when I was watching it, that I didn't let myself guess about them. They were scary! And even after we were told they weren't real I still thought they were. Eeeee.
The other twist had plenty of hints, namely the mix and match costumes and the way they were so isolated, and how the talk of "the towns" was so ambiguous. It was all a little too utopian, there.
I did love it, however. It's not perfect, but he hit some interesting themes. Particularly how you can never really run away from what you are. And also, how the elders were the monsters, both figuratively and literally. They did it out of love and fear and for protection, but that doesn't negate how twisted it is to frighten those you love into obeying you. Creepy! Even though the parallel doesn't really work, I kept thinking of "Young Goodman Brown".
I also adored the two young leads. :) Their scenes were so lovely, and I loved the utter faith they had in each other. *swoon*
