Television, the Drug of the Nation...
Nov. 9th, 2004 11:00 amDespite my fannish inclinations, I'm not a very good tv watcher. I'm just not inclined to set my life by someone or something elses schedule, even those I like. I'm much too scatterbrained and forgetful, not to mention somewhat stubborn and contrary. *g* [1]
Saying that, I'm watching a lot more TV this year then I have in a long time, and that's because I have no school! Weeee. That will, hopefully, change next year, so I better take advantage of this brief lull in the storm, I say.
Shows I've been watching:
Lost
See, I knew it was going to be a good show. Everyone was skeptical and I kept my mouth shut, but I have a lot of faith in JJ Abrams. And maybe that's going to bite me in the ass one day, but I don't really care. I knew it would be different and risky and something unexpected. So, yay for Lost!
At first I was all into Jack and his story, and then, as the rest of the group's stories began to unfold and we began to see how the ensemble was going to fit together and things, I began to get interested in the rest of them. And then there appeared Sayid and I was all 'ooooh'. And then it quickly became All About Sayid. I like everyone else. I'm still interested in Jack's story and Kate's story and that creepy Locke (and dude, that was an awesome episode.) and Sawyer, etc etc., but I'm pretty much All About Sayid now. Yuuuuuum.
Of couse, this new facination didn't prevent me from missing two weeks of episodes. oops.
Las Vegas
I adore this show. It's nothing but pure fluff, really. Eye candy. Silly plot filled episodes, with a smidge of substance, but mostly nothing really earth shattering. And yet? I love it. It's getting slashier and slashier, which is nice. I ADORE Danny McCoy. I love Mike. I'm terribly fond of the rest of the cast. They're setting up some big character and plot arcs, which should play out well, if the PTB don't blow it. And it's preeeety. Pretty show. *pets*
I also missed a few weeks of this show, including the season premiere. sigh. And why, for the love of God, why isn't season 1 out on DVD yet. Why??? NBC hates me.
West Wing
Well, I'm trying to watch, anyway. It's painful. But I feel this lingering need to see how it all plays out. I nearly walked away forever with the Leo story line, tho. And now there's a Toby thing. meep.
Law and Order: SVU
I don't know what it is about this show, but I always enjoy it. Even the not so interesting episodes. The Meloni Attraction has diminished since I no longer get to see him as Keller on Oz, but I still find him very compelling. I really like the formula of the L&O shows. I know it's the same thing every week, but I'm drawn into it anyway. One day I would like to write a HL/L&O:SVU crossover with Connor and Duncan. :)
LAX
Um. I have no excuse. It's on after Las Vegas, you see.... and, uh, it's kind of interesting. No really! It is! *hangs head*
Smallville
Ah, Smallville. I started out pretty good this season, recording it on one tv while watching Lost on the other. But I've lost (heh) the habit, unfortunately. I still want to watch it, even though I'm hopelessly behind. The few eps I did catch I was soo confused, having missed a great deal, and I keep meaning to catch up with recaps, but then I forget. It's a sad sad vicious cycle. One day, though.
Charmed
Can't forget Charmed! It's charmed... *ahem* I like it. It's fluff, of the extreme kind. Extreme fluff. But I like the girls. I love their relationship. I like the silliness of the show. Pheobe's still kinda sporting my hair cut, but she does it up more then I do my hair, so it's looking less and less like me and thank goodness, 'cause that was freaking me out. I don't think the show is going to be back next year though, which kind of makes me sad. sniff.
Mom watches all the CSIs and Cold Case, Crossing Jordan, and NCIS, that kidnapping one, etc etc., and when I'm trying to spend some time with her I end up watching these too. I was alway more of a L&O girl, however. *shrug* Sometimes I find them interesting, tho.
I keep meaning to catch Veronica Mars, but Tuesdays are bad for me.
I, of course, watch Alias, and I'm waiting very patiently for the new season. I finally ordered Season 3 and that should be arriving soon! So, yay! Mom still hasn't seen these, so it'll be fun to watch them with her. She's wacky, my mom, and she cracks me up, so that's good.
And then, as soon as the HL store takes their thumbs out of their collective asses and sends me Season 5, I will have ALL THE HIGHLANDER SEASONS ON DVD!!!!!! This is momentous. This is big! This is all yay-making and dancing up and down and things. YAY!! I am currently right at the end of Season 3, in my slow paced DVD watchingness. Watching Finale, to be exact. And how did I never see that the Watcher CD in the episode lists Duncan's Occupation in the 20s as being Smuggler?? heee.
[1]And I know I need a TiVo. I'm well aware I need a TiVo. Someday I may even get one, but the more it's pushed on me as something I need, the more I'm likely never to get one. See what I mean about being stubborn?

I try once in a while to watch L&O/SUV, because of Meloni, but chee, it's like watching Dragnet all over again. *g*

Date: 2004-11-10 02:00 am (UTC)heeee. :)
I've long since stopped stressing about forgeting to watch TV. It's just what it is. With shows coming out on DVD nowadays, I stress even less. TV should be fun and relaxing. :)

Date: 2004-11-10 04:01 am (UTC)I hear Desperate Housewives is good. It has Terri Hatcher and lots of femslash potential, but I just can't make the commitment.
I have a kid, that's all the commitment I can handle. /g/
How far away is Escapade again?

Date: 2004-11-10 07:36 am (UTC)I used to stockpile weeks of episode too, back in the day when I put more of an effort into TV watching. School really broke me of that habit, and I have to say I'm not missing it at all. :)
Escapde is too far! Wah!
