Aii!

I was very worried about Sawyer, in part because, even though I didn't quite believe they (TPTB) would actually kill him off, I thought they might. *g* Now, I feel a bit guilty that it ended up being Shannon. I liked Shannon. It's like TBTB (or the Island!) needed a sacrifice and I was all "don't take Sawyer!" and they were all "Okay, we won't. But we demand something else in return!" and you're like "okay! Whatever!" and then kick yourself when it's someone you like.

Yes, I amuse myself.

The only other thing I have to say about Lost, is, honestly, I think they're going for some kind of award for bad wigs. The BAD WIG AWARDS. Something we don't know about. Do they not have eyes?! Can they not see how bad they are? Good grief. I would be so ashamed to have my actors looking like that, if I were on the wardrobe/hair/makeup crew. I mean, on a show like Highlander, I can excuse it. They had no money, and it's syndi tv, everything done on the fly, etc etc. Lost? Cannot have the same excuse.

Half way through last night's episode of Lost I turned to my mother and predicted the the two possible endings to the episode. Mom is always amazed when I turn out to be correct.

Mother, I say, it's obvious! It's all set up, don't you see?! But she doesn't see, and it's really easy to impress her, which is a lot of fun. She thinks I'm super smart, which, you know, I am smart, but not necessarily super smart. *g*

Either because she was not raised on television like I was, or she never went to school specifically to learn how to see patterns in literature and how to deconstruct narratives and recognize themes and parallels and plots the way many of us have, it's all a big mystery to her. It's very cute, sometimes. Other times, it's a little frustrating, because I end up having to explain tv shows and movies to her, particularly those that are a bit more twisty than others.

Harry Potter is an excellent example. JK Rowling loves parallels and themes and foreshadowing and all sorts of good stuff like that, character foils, etc etc. Neither are the HP books particularly obtuse or difficult to follow. Everything is pretty much all there, ripe for the picking. Mom? Doesn't see any of it. When I talk to her about it and explain it, she gets it, but not on her own.

I suppose this is common enough, and it's just that, on a day to day basis, I tend to hang around people who all, more or less, see the same way I do. And then there are the days when things fly totally over my head and I have to have everything spelled out, twice, before I can even pretend get it. heh. :-)
