What is it about guys with great noses?
Jan. 31st, 2006 02:30 pmThis entry at Bookslut about the many Academy Award nominations based on pre-existing literary material reminded me of a movie I wanted to recommend that I thought some of you Deadwood fans might want to see.
At the bottom of the entry, the writer makes fun of Crash and recommends everyone go see Me and You and Everyone We Know instead.
Now, I thought Crash was rather brilliant, personally, (and I adore Don Cheadle!), but I DO think people should see Me and You and Everyone We Know. It's odd, quirky, off-beat, occasionally disturbing, entirely written and directed by Miranda July, who also starred in it opposite John Hawkes, who plays Sol on Deadwood. *He* was great, too, as a recently single father. It's not the type of film that would ever be recognized by the Academy, so griping about it being ignored is kind of non-productive, imo, but that's really beside the point.
The point is, John Hawkes? Has a great nose.
