I think everyone should go see this movie. Not only is it a powerful look into the life of the marines and the psychology that goes into brainwashing these kids, it's got some wonderful performances by Jake Gyllenhaal (who just gets better and better) and Peter Sarsgaard, but the whole cast was really really good. Go see it!

(goes to make sure Jarhead is added to Yuletide)

Would you consider sending me some more info about the movie? Like, who dies, if anyone? The trailer made me really want to see the movie, but I'd like to know what I'm getting into ahead of time, cuz I'm chickenshit like that.

(Also...is it slashy? Yes, I have a one-track mind)

If you don't want to post spoilers, my e-mail is on my info page! :)

I like Jake G. a lot (we may not get Brokeback Mountain here in Memphis, so Jarhead may have to fill my JG fix for the next few months.)

None of the main characters die in the action of the film, when they're in Kuwait -- They all go home from that experience. There's a bit of an epilogue, tho, where there's a scene at PS's character's funeral. We're not told how he died. It's sad, but at that point they'd all lost touch.

Neither did I find the movie particularly violent. There is some violence (it is about war, after all), but it mostly just shows what it's like if you put a whole bunch of jacked up, horny, frightened, stessed-out, 20-year-old boys, in a confined space together for long periods of extreme high-tension waiting.

It's VERY slashy. :)

Thank you so much for this! It just moved to the top of my "babysitter-worthy" list.

I've spent the last half hour wallowing in trailers, teasers, and pictures. I've got to make a Jake!Santa icon for the holidays.

Thanks again -- now I'm excited!

Ohhhh, God, I love Tigerland. I've forgiven Colin Farrell a lot because I have such incredible affection for Bozz, the character he owns in that movie. It's ridiculously slashy, too, a love story between Bozz and Jim.

(For heaven's sake, they fuck two girls in the same room, then the girls leave and the two men stay there, still buck naked, getting high and talking.)

Ah, Colin Farrell... When he's good, he's really very good. *g* Thanks again!

I just read in Entertainment Weekly that Peter Sarsgaard is dating Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jake's sister, in real life...

That sort of automatically trips my RPS trigger... ;)

Reading on... "I think Sam (the director) knew he needed a relationship [to hang the story on]," says Sarsgaard. "Jake and I already had one. So -- grab that one!"

(Should I be deeply ashamed now? Or wait until later?)

Honestly, I wanted to watch Jarhead for Jake, but walked away in love with Peter Sarsgaard, which should tell you something about his performance. He was really good. :)

Have you seen Tigerland? It seems like it might share some attributes with that.
