good morning!
Nov. 11th, 2005 10:24 amIt's probably not morning for most of you, but it's morning here and morning in my head, and I wanted an excuse to use my new Mark Darcy icon. :)

This post has no real purpose, other than to report that this morning on the LA Radio station KROQ, they interviewed Jake Gyllenhall about his movie Jarhead and also Brokeback Mountain. I know it's been said before, but both of the actors for Brokeback Mountain have been so cool about it, and recognizing the sort of transcendency of the story. Part of it, I do think, is that they're stressing the beauty of the love story to distance themselves a bit from the whole gay cowboy thing, but it really is what the story is about, and it's awesome that two such totally straight and theoretically image concious actors have recognized that and chose to do the project because of that.
The DJs were very cool about it, too, even if they joked a little, asking Jake if he was glad he did the big buff marine movie before doing the gay cowboys in love movie. To which *I* would have said, uh yeah, Jarhead may have been big and buff, but it's not exactly devoid of homoerotic sexual tension. *g*

I saw it, I loved it, I'm going back next week with a friend who's ex-Air Force. Will be interested to hear his perspective.
Did I tell you? When I went to buy Jarhead tix, I asked if the theater (the nicest one in town) was going to get Brokeback Mountain. He said that yes, they were, but wouldn't know for sure until the week of the release.

Date: 2005-11-11 08:15 pm (UTC)And I'm glad you liked it! I always know if how much I love a movie by how much it stays with me after I see it. I'm still thinking about this one.

Date: 2005-11-11 08:03 pm (UTC)I know I went in with the attitude of "Gay cowboy movie" that's it and that's all. But it is a love story. It really is.
