I'm here, I'm here. I know I've been a bit silent lately (and I wonder if anyone's noticed), so I'm making myself post just to make sure you all know I'm still alive. *g*

You would think that the end of the semester would bring some peace and quiet. You would think that and you'd be wrong! Not that I'm terribly busy, but well, I think I am, actually. Mostly work and my ever increasing social obligations (read tifah is a social butterfly).

My [livejournal.com profile] yuletide story is coming along. Not fast enough for comfort, but it's there, growing steadily. So far, I'm okay with it, although I fear it's terribly boring. After a semester of writing in a totally different, very particular, style and tense, it was a little odd getting back into my regular headspace for fanfic. I was worried I wouldn't be able to find it again, but I think it's there.

I went with a friend today to see an early screening of King Kong, which I will admit I totally expected to hate.

And, although there were one or two things I didn't like about Peter Jackson's direction and about 20 minutes of action that could easily be cut, I of course rather liked it. *g* I have yet to see a movie with Adrian Brody where I didn't end up totally loving whatever character he's playing, and this movie was no exception. He was wonderful, imo, but then maybe I'm just a sucker for heroes (ya think? *g*). I also expected to not like Jack Black, but he was rather good, I thought. All the actors were great. Naomi was very good and I *adored* Colin Hanks.

The action sequences were too long. Some of the cgi was cgi-ish, although King Kong in particular was really spectacular. There were one or two things that pulled me out of the story, but it's such a far fetched story to begin with, it was easy to let them slide. The period costumes were nice, understated -- it's not really a clothing film. They wigged Naomi and it was a little obvious at times, at least for me, but maybe I'm the only one who could tell, but leaps and bounds better than 99% of all other wigs in film and tv.

King Kong is one of those movies were you leave the theatre exhausted. You feel like you've been working for 3 hours and totally need a break now. *g* Not sure I ever need to see it again, but I did enjoy a lot of it.

You're welcome. I should mention there are a lot of (large) ooky critters in this film, if you're sensitive to that sort of thing.

hahahaha! Well, the name on the Director's Chair is Peter Jackson, after all. Large, ooky creatures are to be expected. :-D

I'm okay with creatures, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico showed me that I can tolerate a good bit of violence for the right film. But I'm not likely to make this the Family Movie Night choice to take my kids along! With a PG-13, that was highly unlikely anyway.

Again, though: THANK YOU. Better to know than to pay $10 for something one finds unpleasant. :-)

From the trailers, at least, this looks to be the first King Kong who really looks like an actual gorilla. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I noticed! I was thinking about you a lot this weekend. Could you hear me thinking from over there? Got such a kick out of seeing your name in my mailbox this morning. You obviously got my psychic page. *g*

{{{{hugs you}}}}

You know, I think I could hear you because I was thinking of you, too! *g* I thought of you and T'Jonesy, actually, because Layla was on my radio and I got all misty eyed thinking about us and shoreleave and ST and everything. It's, um, that time of the month. LOL. *g*

*smooches*
