This entry at Bookslut about the many Academy Award nominations based on pre-existing literary material reminded me of a movie I wanted to recommend that I thought some of you Deadwood fans might want to see.

At the bottom of the entry, the writer makes fun of Crash and recommends everyone go see Me and You and Everyone We Know instead.

Now, I thought Crash was rather brilliant, personally, (and I adore Don Cheadle!), but I DO think people should see Me and You and Everyone We Know. It's odd, quirky, off-beat, occasionally disturbing, entirely written and directed by Miranda July, who also starred in it opposite John Hawkes, who plays Sol on Deadwood. *He* was great, too, as a recently single father. It's not the type of film that would ever be recognized by the Academy, so griping about it being ignored is kind of non-productive, imo, but that's really beside the point.

The point is, John Hawkes? Has a great nose.

Thank you for the recs - I haven't seen either one, but I will. (Did you see Syriana, btw? It's so weird -- I have heard absolutely no one talk about this movie.)

John Hawkes? Has a great nose.

He so does. Sigh. Why is there not a huge stockpile of Deadwood fic out there for me to read?

I did see Syriana and one of the reasons I haven't talked about it is that I'm still sort of digesting it. It was a great deal more complex than one viewing will let me understand. But, I fell more in love with Al Siddig. He just keeps getting better and better. And Clooney, as well.

One thing I thought of while watching Syriana was, if Roger Lococco was still around, he'd totally be all immeshed in that sort of thing. *g*

Sigh. Why is there not a huge stockpile of Deadwood fic out there for me to read?

I don't know! Tis very sad.

Oh yes. That one was already on my netflix queue by virtue of having Sol in it. Good to know that you think it's good.

I wish I had a Deadwood icon.

It did enjoy it, mostly because I became quite fond of him. *g* It's definitely an odd little movie, though.

What is it about guys with great noses?

I think it's something to do with adding uniqueness and character. At one point, I was *really* into Duchovny and Wingfield -- both have superb noses. *g*

Mmmm, David Duchovny. :::hums David Duchovney, why don't you love me, why don't you love me, David Duchovney:::

I remember him on Leno once talking about the boy that played young Mulder on the X-Files and how the parents had called to tell them that since he'd (the kid) played the part, his nose had grown. heeee.

And PW is always a fav. :)
