for two separate and unrelated reasons.

Reason the first: My roommate's boyfriend, having to fly to India on an emergency, parked his car behind mine (tandem parking) and... took the keys! WTF! I get that he was hurried and upset (family thing) but this means I'm trapped. o.O. Sigh. His parents are fedexing his spare key (and what good is a spare key when you leave it another state?).

He's generally a good kid, but right now I'm not at all thrilled. I have options for getting to work tomorrow (including calling in sick/late) but none of them are particularly appealing.

Reason the second: This is much more horrific than being inconvenienced by roommate's stupid boyfriend. Warning: if you visit the myspace page (url at the bottom of the excerpt), the pictures are graphic and saying they're heartbreaking is an understatement.

Two boxers left behind after a foreclosure.

Faith and her brother Joe Schmoe were left behind in the backyard by their family when they moved due to foreclosure.

The neighbors were watching to see if anyone was going to come back for them. One day Faith would not get up anymore and was moaning so the neighbors called animal control.

These two poor Boxers had been left with no food or water. Both are starved and their bodies reflect this terribly. Exposed without shelter to rain and the freezing cold. Both Faith and Joe have swollen bleeding skin from mange and parasitic infections.

Crying the animal control officer carried Faith into the San Bernardino hospital. Faith was considered dead when she arrived. No temperature, her eyes were rolled back in her head, but with love and medical care she survived and is fighting to survive.

Faith weighs 36 pounds but should weigh at least 80 pounds. Joe weighs 65 but should weigh over 100 pounds.

Who could do this to these sweet animals? The proper steps are being taken to find the owner and press charges.

Please help Boxer Rescue and Tazzy Fund continue to offer the best medical care available to these dogs they need to stay in the hospital as long as they need to.

I read somewhere that there's been a several hundred percent increase in abandoned animals as a result of the foreclosure crisis. SoCal shelters are overwhelmed, and can't cope with the overflow. It's very sad.

I do NOT get why foreclosures mean people have to abandon their animals, but then I hate people who, as a friend says, treat animals like lawn furniture. There are rentals that allow pets, and many animal shelters can tell you how to find them, so WTF? *bangs head*

Sorry about your car being parked in! Yeah, I get that there was an emergency, but he doesn't live there, so how did he think parking behind your car and leaving the country was okay? Wouldn't you, you know, ASK? Again, I just don't get people.

Why is no one asking how those neighbours sleep at night knowing they 'watched' that happen?

Seconded. It takes a while for an animal to starve to death.

To me, the most amazing part of that dog rescue story is that if the owners showed up at the hospital today, those poor boxers would doubtless be overjoyed and relieved having feared something horrible must have happened to their people to keep them away for so long.

Dogs win.
