And in conclusion, VVC IN 7 DAYS OMG YAY. I have to be good while at VVC and do some writing on the $l%^l!!&k! thesis, annoyingly, but I shall still have fun. wheeeeee.

Yesterday I was in chat with astolat and terrio. They were talking about Entourage and how shalott has already moved on to greener pastures, ruthlessly dumping Entourage (not to mention Rome, Wiseguy, and my own pretty Dracula! SPN fandom get her while you can!) for Supernatural. So fickle! To quote Terri (roughly. I forget to log chats), "wam-bam, three stories, and she's out of there!"

This lead to me making a metaphor for fandom: it's like a locker room where we all get together and talk about our latest conquests, who banged who and how, tricks, compare notes, tell each other who's a nice piece of ass. So crude, but, dude, it's FUNNY.

It got me thinking, though. If shalott is a slut (her words!), likes to love 'em and leave 'em broken hearted, I'm more of the kind that ends up hopelessly entangled with 10 or 15 lovers, all demanding my attention. Cause really, I'm all flirt and very little hanky panky.


fandom: "Hey, you wanta hang out with us? We got SPN and Torchwood all primed and ready. They're juuiiccy..."

me: "Nah, man, I got my bitch Highlander at home waiting." sees HL coming 'round the corner. "Oh, damn, quick, hide me!"

irate tv show: "I saw you. What? You think I don't have eyes? You were with that bitch Friday Night Sluts, too."

irate tv show: *SLAP*, storms off.

fandom: DAAAANG!!! Ooooh, you got SLAPPED! Pussy.

me: rubbing cheek, yelling, chasing after irate tv show "Awww, baby, you know I love youuuuuu."

I have an LJ superpower and that superpower is the ability to be completely oblivious to about 85% of whatever given drama happens to be occurring. It's a nice power, good power, but when I finally take notice of something I'm always "wah?". heh.

Anyhoo, that's neither here nor there, really. This post has only one purpose and that's to direct you to wickedwords's excellent 3 point approach to Characterization. Apparently the ever-present grumblings about "proper" or "correct" characterizations have been cropping up in various fandoms (I'm hearing it in Atlantis and in Pirates).

Maybe if I beg Rache will treat us to her Bruiser/Bleeder theory. *g*

I rented Gosford Park this weekend, and I highly recommend it. Altman is either genius or a complete disaster, but this movie was so tightly plotted and gorgeously acted. You kind of need cliff notes, though, to keep track of who everyone is. Or watch it over again, which is what I did. Everyone was superb, especially Maggy Smith, who I want to be when I grow up. *g*

Amongst the cast was one Clive Owen who will soon star in King Arthur, as Arthur. He was great! He's totally won me over. I thought he was amazing, handsome, and broody (not to mention british and repressed. heh), a combination guaranteed to make me all fluttery and swoony. *g* And now, I'm all excited about King Arthur, which is dangerous, 'cause what if it sucks? It's totally going to suck. meep

In other news, the lovely fabu pointed out the lj comm fanfic_hate in one of her recent posts. Looking at the user info, the purpose of the LJ is to have some sort of "safe" place to anonymously complain about fanfics one thinks either suck or are overrated. Both Highlander and PotC are soon up on its schedule.

Er, not sure how I feel about that. I'll admit I'm curious to see what stories are mentioned, but I find the whole concept, well, stupid. Not a big fan of anonymous complaining, I guess.

It seems I am a lemming. hm.

So, am back and not sleeping. Woo! Have been up since wee hours going through my back log of snail mail (scary!). I had an amazing time and did many many things, and I want to sort of chronicle the highlights, but it's hard to process it all, at the moment. Maybe when I finally get back home to california, since I'm actually not completely done with all this traveling yet.

I will say one thing. I had amazing luck with all my traveling connections and things. I had some truly nightmarish plane to train to bus type of traveling going on (more than once) and not once was anything late nor did I miss my connections or anything. I couldn't believe it; there were times when I had four minutes leeway between train transfers. Glad that's all over! heh.
