So, I spent all day yesterday thinking I had left my cell phone at home, only to come home to find no cell phone anywhere. Where was it? At work. Under a whole lotta files and paperwork. Yes, ladies, I am that much of an airhead. *takes a bow*

[livejournal.com profile] astolat and I were commiserating and complaining to each other about our respective fandoms.

I was all "OMG with the FIGHTING and the WANK and why did I have to go and get involved with a fandom where the characters LEAVE and even the Doctor changes and you just have to accept it! And even the writers aren't spared. WOE."

And she was all "DUDE, try American Idol. It's WORSE because at the end of each season it's like they DIE, the show kills off all of the characters! TRY THAT."

And then I was all "OMG you're right! That is worse!" *clings to DW*

hee.

Terry Gilliam calls Johnny, Jude and Colin "totally heroic" for finishing Heath's film free. link snagged from [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda.

Interesting how much he looks like Depp in those pictures. And the costuming is very Terry Gilliam! Very Fisher King. Oh Heath.

I saw The Dark Knight finally this weekend, and I liked it very much. After all the hype, it was hard to not go into it expecting to have my socks blown off. They were mostly blown off. *g* Heath did an incredible job, particularly in the physical embodiment of the Joker, enough that I didn't really think of him has Heath, which is good because I might have found it too distracting otherwise. He was hard to look at. I've seen icons for the Joker and I just kind of boggle.

In particular, relating to the Joker, what I really appreciated was that they did not sell us a backstory for him. That made him ten times scarier, disturbing, and crazycrazycrazy. Nothing is scarier than a person who doesn't give a fuck at all.

I worry they will try and recast the Joker; that's going to be a tough job for whomever. Even in some future reenvisioning.

I hadn't read any of my friend's lists posts about it before seeing it, and then afterwards found I had the exact same reaction as all of you regarding the character of Rachel (and the lack of female characters in general). I liked Rachel quite a bit in Batman Begins. The casting change would have been difficult as is, but I can't blame MG. It would have been better for it to have been some wholly knew character, imo -- the whole love triangle sort of fell flat, which is sad because I love a good love triangle! The only part of it that I thought was interesting was that Batman chose Dent over Rachel; he believed in Dent that much, but it wasn't as wrenching as it could be because I'd stopped believing he loved Rachel that much.

Also, I don't know much about the Batman comics or the names of any of the villians, and so I had no idea who Harvey Dent was; thus the Two Face thing caught me off guard. Knowing how genre/comic book films work *g* I was braced for Dent to be revealed as evil. I knew enough about the Batman universe to know the general evolution of most of its villians tend to revolve around insanity or some sort of psychotic break, so I knew Harvey Dent was likely destined for *something* but then as the film went on I started hoping he might be spared because he and Bruce had great chemistry that would all but go away if he became evil. And then he go boom. :( And it all became less interesting; they didn't sell the pathos of his psychotic break, imo.

Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors. He is exactly my age and I've watched him ever since Mio min Mio and was rather in love with him after Empire of the Sun when I was 13. The other day I was looking at a poster for TDK and thought "man, when did he become such a man?" I mean, he's been a man, of course, for a long time, and has done lots of films (and I can't quite watch American Psycho without cowering), but his Batman is so *hard*, inflexible, rough, the quintessential square-jawed hero. More than his Bruce (And omg I love Bruce!). As Bruce he's still very much the Christian Bale I would expect. I don't know; it's weird, but I loved it all.

I like Simon Pegg. He should be cast in stuff I watch all the time. Hollywood, please provide, ty. *flutters eyelashes at him*. link once again courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda.

I've been mostly silent on the upcoming new Star Trek film because it looks too good to be true and some of the casting, I must confess, leaves me a little cold, but [livejournal.com profile] killabeez is working hard to make me excited for it. :D
