I'm posting from my mother's Dell laptop. She's lent it to me until I either get a new computer or they revive and return my old one. It's weird being on a PC! You'd think that since I use PCs at work, it'd be nothing new, but for some reason it's all STRANGE and WEIRD. I feel like I'm in enemy territory, skulking in the bushes. haha.

i miss my 'puter. :(

~~~
IT'S RAINING AGAIN. Which means it's raining in my room. They have not fixed my roof. And probably won't until it's fairly certain the rain has stopped for longer than a few days. I'm guessing, anyway. Whatever. At this point I'm just kind of dealing. I'm not really upset. I'm more annoyed. Annoyed Tifah is Annoyed.
~~~

I took my car in this morning to the dealer/service because it's past 60,000 miles and that's what you're supposed to do when you're at 60,000 miles only when I got there and they looked at my car and what I'd already had done they were like um, there's nothing to do on your car. d'oh! I was like, are you sure? There's gotta be something that needs to be done. The guy was all, er, nope? They're so nice there. Any other place would have done work for no reason! And they're not really that much more expensive, at least I haven't seen it to be so.

~~~
The job situation is still crappy, in case anyone was wondering. We got official notice that there will *definitely* be layoffs, rather than the previous 'might be' lay offs. Everyone is up in arms. One thing I've learned -- or rather, one thing that's been reaffirmed by all this is = hypocrisy is the new black.
~~~

In fannish updates, I'm watching BSG, 24, and Lost (although how out of it was I last week, I can't recall if I watched the episode or not? was there an episode last wednesday? what was I doing? I can't remember!)

24 = Is making me into a pretzel, eeeee. O.o. I've taken to stalking almeidaisgod.com, hahah. My love for Tony and Jack has risen to alarming levels. I may need an intervention.

Lost = Um, I like it? I'm confused as hell, but I've become very zen about this show. It and I have come to an agreement of sorts == I haven't a clue what's going on but cheer anyway, and it show me lots Sayid and Desmond. (Dude, Sayid'd give Jack Bauer a run for his money, and don't you know it.)

BSG = I haven't seen this friday's ep yet. I'll watch it tonight. *sigh* How sad is it that I'm thrilled this is the last season so I can stop watching these tortured characters being tortured all the time. There's no one left to like on this show, now that they've gone and made Lt. Gaeta bad/delusional/crazy/fucked-up/bitter/whatever. THANKS, SHOW. THANKS FOR THAT.

~~~
Mother and I made it through CoH/Rev 6:8 finally. She was all "that was intense!" afterward. hahah. It was interesting to watch with someone who was completely unspoiled for all the, er, revelations. :D She is, to my chagrin, a total Methos girl. I mean, not that I don't love Methos as much as the next girl, but I definitely watch the show for Duncan primarily. She and I often part ways, though, on many different topics, so I guess it's not always 'like mother, like daughter.'
"Methos is handsome!"
"Well, yes, he is, but what about Duncan?"
"Oh yes, he's very nice, too. But Methos is much more my type."
(Oh good lord, my mother's talking about her "type" hahaha."
"I like Methos!"
"I know you do."
"Sometimes he's a coward, though."
*choke*
She didn't react well to The Valkrie, and thought Duncan should not have killed Ingrid, and I had forgotten (or had sort of stopped thinking about) what a tough episode that is. There's no right or wrong. Although this time around, it seemed pretty obvious to me that Ingrid was rather at the end of her rope and well past the point of no return. She could no longer differentiate between a righteous act versus a desperate act. And Duncan was acting more from a sadness of losing his friend to the kind of obsession that he could not fix, than to what she was actually doing, although ultimately he could not let that sort of thing go -- she was clearly not levelheaded about it anymore, and had escalated away from any actual good she might be doing. It was similar to Brian Cullen (and Byron), only with more politics and meglomaniacs.
Each time there's a flashback, my mother says out loud, "oh! flashback! flashback!" like she needs to announce it every time. It's hilarious. And weird.
"Oh no, don't tell me Methos is a bad man!"
ahhahahahah
Re: Kronos = "That man is crazy!"
Re: the Horseman = "They all seem a little crazy."
Very observant, my mother. You know, I've always admired Valentine Pelka, but I gotta say, he's really very good, like remarkably so. I mean, Kronos is a bit OTT with teh crazzy! but VP actually manages to be mostly cheeky!sociopath. I dunno, I'm impressed, really.
In completely new and unrelated fannish news, after an embarrassingly long time (something close to a year, maybe) I've finally finished watching all of the Dresdon Files. I was sort of slow, to warm up to it. I mean, I liked Harry (dude, that actor is *gorgeous*) and loved Bob and sort of adored the old-time feel of the show -- I miss the days of dodgy vancouver-filmed speculative syndicated TV shows, man -- and I especially loved Murphy, but it wasn't until the last few episodes that I really started to get that fannish sort of love for it, and now it's all gone! So Sad!
So tell me, Dresden experts out there, are the books good? How many are there? Is Murphy in them? I love her. I really loved her and Dresden together, actually -- they had old skool Mulder/Scullyness about them. sigh. wow, I miss that, I really really miss that.
I can't blame your mom. I always wonder how I would have reacted if I had watched those episodes without being spoiled via vids. It's intense regardless though.
"Oh no, don't tell me Methos is a bad man!"
LOL. That illusion was (somewhat) shattered.
BTW, thanks so much for the rec :)
:D :D You're welcome. And yeah, it's been so long since I watched Highlander the first time, I honestly can't remember what I thought all those years ago. I think I watched those episodes live, but I'm not sure.
I remember watching my first episode, Chivalry for the first time (I had gotten S4 dvds for my birthday) and even though I had seen the vids it was still sooo much slashier than I thought. And I had to adjust to the voices. But you gotta love that dialogue (and of course the nose painting!).
There's no one left to like on this show....
Aw, I still like Helo and the Chief. Although Helo is getting almost no screentime or anything to do...
I like the Dresden books a lot. The 11th one is out in April, and unlike a lot of long fantasy series, I think they've managed to stay pretty good. Murphy is definitely in them, and is as awesome or even moreso than the Murphy of the show. And there's Bob, but he's a very different sort of Bob...
Oh, Helo! Yes, and the Chief, you're right. Although I worry about the Chief, that they're gonna make him do something distasteful or awful. He's on the edge. Helo is lovely, though, you're right and you're also right that he's being ignored! hrmph.
awesome. In my copious free time, I'm going to see if I can get these out of my library. yay!
I think the Dresden books start a little slowly but get utterly awesome as they go along. It's like Butcher was learning how to really write but he picks it up quickly. Murphy is just utterly wonderful in the books.
Butcher's fantasy series is really good also.
That seems to be the consensus. :D Sounds like a great choice for mindless reading.
Hi there!
Just wanted to comment on you and your mom watching Highlander - you guys crack me up. I love how you describe your mom's reaction to the show - priceless!
As far the jobs go, I understand. I'm looking for work myself in a very tough market (entertainment) so I'm sending positive energies your way that you'll be spared.
Hope everything else is well with you and yours.
:) She kind of drives me crazy, but she is very amusing. You must imagine her somewhat thick spanish accent throughout it all.
dang! That's the same market I'm in, too! Well, it is a tough market, damn it all. It always is. hrmph. But, good luck to you, as well! I have faith. :)
LOL! Moms sometimes do drive their children crazy but there's nothing like it in the world - a mom's craziness I mean;~) I used to love watching Highlander with my mom - she had stopped watching it though bc I started to obsess about Adrian Paul. Can you blame me?!
What do you do in entertainment? Do you work in film/tv/print? I'm in film - though its been a while. Used to work movie premieres and parties - those were good times. *sigh* trying to get back into it is hard considering the horrible economy but a girl can't give in.
Anywho, thanks for the well wishing. It always helps to have someone in your corner.
What do you do in entertainment?
Currently, I'm in the Buisness Affairs/labour union side of things, and would probably look in the same field for any future jobs, although if I had my druthers I'd like to give development a go, but I'm not even sure I want that.
I love the Dresden books. I got into them because I loved the series so much, and I found that:
a) I like the Harry in the series better than I would have liked the Harry in the books, but since I met the Harry in the series first... I am not sure I ever really met the Harry in the books. If that makes sense. Anyway, I love Harry!
b) I like Bob in the series way better than Bob in the books. But Bob in the books still has his charm.
c) I like Murphy in the show a LOT, and yet I still like Murphy in the books better. Possibly just because she had more time to kick ass, and she used it for a whole lot of ass-kicking. =)
d) There are a lot of things to love in the books that never made it into the series. There are a lot of PEOPLE in the books to love that never made it into the series. And not-people too, for that matter.
e) The books struck me the way the series struck you. The first book is a hard read, mainly because it's such an easy read; there's barely any there there. But again, it is charming, and as I continued through the books I found myself not only more charmed but also more involved - Butcher's writing got better, and his stories got more complex and layered. Though, I mean. You know, for dodgy harry-sue urban fantasy. =) Also, points for Chicago!!
ps - why yes, I have given this a lot of thought - why do you ask!?
hee! I love you. You should know that. *g*
I'm sold! I'm totally gonna start in on these books. You'll had me with the promise of more ass-kicking awesome Murphy. yay!
I think it's funny about you and your mom watching Highlander. I'm a Methos gal too, but I sure wouldn't kick Duncan out of my bed. Or more importantly, I wouldn't kick him out of Methos' bed. And I still love CAH and Rev.
I'm watching 24 now. Trying to get caught up. I'm really enjoying it although I'm missing Emerson and his not-British accent.
I don't know if I can say I love them, but I usually can't look away when I do watch them. *g*
sigh. Yeah, I must be the only PW fan who is actively hoping Emerson is most sincerely dead. *g*
