misadventures of the mom kind

As if last week didn't already suck, the mom came down with appendicitis late Friday. O.O Not exactly how I planned to spend my weekend, waiting around in the ER and then in a hospital room. Oy.
Took her to the ER on Saturday at around 9, and they had her in the OR by around 3pm. They kept her overnight, and she got released around 4pm on Sunday. It was very quick, as these sort of things usually go, with no complications, so that's all good. Although apparently the infection was pretty bad and they have her on heavy course of antibiotics. I was a tad worried during the surgery, mostly because when she had her gallbladder surgery the anesthesiologist made such a big deal over her history of cerebral aneurysms they had to do a cerebral angiogram and have her consult a neurosurgeon. So naturally at the ER I was like 'omg please do not be exploding her brain if possible." Anyway, they did not explode her brain, and she came out of the OR fine. If cranky.
It was also the same hospital that they took Luke Perry to, and I could not stop thinking of that the entire weekend. It was also the hospital my friend T was in and out of during the worst of her battle with cancer, and the one my dad was in when he first got diagnosed. It's the closest one around these parts. My aunt worked there in the NICU for years, and I remember visiting her once and how wild it was to see her handle all those babies. Anyway, hospitals! They are both wonderful and horrible at the same time. This one is permanently stuck in the 90s. All the furniture is like right out of star trek voyager lol.
Speaking of 90s. Despite all the mom drama, I did manage to sneak in a viewing of Captain Marvel.
Well I thought it was fun! It didn't have me weeping with joy like Thor Ragnarok, but that's okay. My biggest take away from Captain Marvel was that clearly Goose is gonna take a lead role in Endgame. I mean, right? lol. HE SHOULD.
Things I liked, in no particular order:
~ Goose, naturally. The real heavyweight coming out of this film.
~ I might be the only one (at least from a quick read through of my f-list reviews anyway) that really liked Brie Larson as Carol. I do think it might have helped if they'd chosen to do the first act with Carol on Earth in the 80s instead of Vers on Hala. It's tough when you've got an amnesiac lead character and don't do enough work to connect her to her past.
~ But I sort of loved Vers on Hala. And wanted more of that, maybe less training and more actually part of that team -- I'm forgetting their name and am too lazy to look up. Starforce? Whatever, them. I think the shock of realizing who she really is would have been sharpened if we saw her as part of that team for longer, doing things for the Kree empire as a hero only to realize not so much. Although I guess Bucky's really got that amnesiac supersoldier horror story market cornered lol. But it would have been a different take on that.
~ Loved Fury from start to finish. <3
~ I had no idea Ben Mendelson was in this until I heard and recognized his voice. So excite! The reveal about the Skrulls was awesome -- that ENTIRE story line of the the Kree making the Skrulls as refugee terrorists considering our current history right now in the U.S. with the entire debate over this fucking border wall. I mean, A+ MCU, way to go. You get a cookie.
~ I wanted more Mar-Vell.
~ I mean, Carol and Maria obviously love each other. The writers relied heavily on this relationship to give the movie the needed weight, and I loved that but also wanted more. They tookshort cuts, but it's awesome that it's these two women -- Maria and Mar-vell -- that are Carol's connection to her past.
~I like the added history of the Space Stone. I mean, I was wondering what they had done with the thing from when Stark found it to when we see it again in Avengers. Although how many times are people gonna try and use it? DON'T DO IT. JUST SAY NO. lol.
~Oh yeah, there was an end credit scene. :D Really the only thing I could think during most of that scene was how awesome Steve looked. It was distracting! I am so going to miss that bearded, long-haired look on him. But yeah, it was so great to see them, and I loved Steve's "this is a nightmare" and Natasha's "i've had better nightmares." <3 <3 <3

In other news, needless to say I did not get much writing done this weekend, which sucked. :( I tried writing in the hospital yesterday but only managed like a paragraph. And did it have to be daylight savings on top of everything?? Also also, I went out Friday with friends, and let me tell you experiencing the ER while hungover is just loads of not fun lol. Blergh.

Date: 2019-03-12 03:08 am (UTC)hospitals in general are just no fun at all. And they're big and confusing with hallways that make no sense lol. I'm really hoping I don't have to go in one again for a while.
