Let me preface this little story by saying that my place of employment really likes to get into the spirit of Halloween. This year, we not only have a costume contest, but a pumpkin carving contest AND a Halloween scavenger hunt. For the scavenger hunt, each department participating has to come up with a riddle that leads to an item.

So, I called in sick the past two days and I came in to work today and found out that my department, completely without my influence, made this:

Clue:

I'm an example of 1.B.8.
Derived from films of box office great
I reside in the place where rights that are separated
And paper with writers' agreements are situated

People say I have no purpose
And rely too much on a broken compass
Me mouth was made for drinking rum
I know someday my ship will come

On my back there is a switch
A treasure that will make you rich
It's not made of diamonds, silver or gold
Or material things that you can hold

Words of wisdom I do speak
Plain and true for those who seek
The knowledge that will set you free
It's there in saying number three.

Answer:

"Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate." (This is the third quotation in the cycle [of the Captain Jack Sparrow doll known as Happy Jack which happens to make its abode in my co-workers office].)

*beams*

I was never so proud. But that's not all! No, this has to be an item that hunters can carry away to prove they solved the riddle: one co-worker wants little bags of Pirate Booty and other suggested Chips Ahoy cookies. I love these guys.

All this AND the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest bloopers on YouTube.
