I liked both of these movies! I liked them quite a bit. I didn't expect to like X-Men film, actually, but that was a pleasant surprise. There's a great deal that I don't entirely grasp though, since I don't know that much about either Marvel universe. Like, for example, is the Quicksilver from the Avengers the same as the Quicksilver from X-Men?? How does that work...

Captain America: The Winter Soldier )

I almost did not go see the X-Men movies. I just, I don't know, there's so many of these movies, and they've been going on for so long, and it's the same struggle over and over again, and I get a little tired of Magneto and Prof. X and their epic manlovemanhate -- it's not my pairing, as cute as their younger counterparts are (and as friggin adorable as Ian and Patrick are). But I did go, and I really liked it! So, whatever, just goes to show you. I did think this film was better than First Class.

In other news, I am still pleasantly distracted by Leverage. There is SAD lack of OT3 fic, though. Painful lack. Eh, it was never a big fandom. sigh.

I'm almost done with the line edits for the book. And by almost, I mean I am moments away from sending it to my editor for monday. *BIG EYES*

What? what?

Star Trek meets X-Men Comic. And other wacko comic book crossovers. Nutty!

~~~
Speaking of Star Trek and my goal of watching the entire franchise chronologically, it only took me *mumble* amount of time, but I have FINALLY made it to Star Trek: The Next Generation and watched Encounter at Farpoint last night, after watching Turnabout Intruder
Turnabout Intruder:
~ Holy macaroni, that is one of the more disturbing episodes of television, ever.
~ I'd forgotten about 90% of the plot. I just remembered that Lester and Kirk swapped bodies, but that's it. I'd forgotten about Lester's hatred of all things female.
~ I'd also forgotten Lester-in-Kirk is CREEPY. Shatner trying to be a woman trying to be a man. YIKES. Also, there was much interpretive dance moves in this one. Very dramatic. In that interpretive dance move sort of way. *g*
~ Spock holds Kirk-in-Lester's hand! It's like, the sweetest thing. Kind of weird, though. But the whole interaction between Kirk and Spock in this episode resonates very strongly, particularly in contrast to the manic behavior of Lester-in-Kirk.
Encounter at Farpoint:
~ I was all verklempt seeing all my old friends again. And so young, omg.
~ Oh right. Troi and the crying. Always crying. And these long, lingering shots intercut between her and Riker and her large, luminous dark eyes. I'd blocked all of that out of my memory.
~ They wrote Wesley's part as if he were a five-year-old.
~ Q is silly!
~ There was tentacle stroking in this episode. I'm just saying.
These new posters for X-Men 3: The Last Stand sprang up all over the city last night. At first I couldn't figure out what they were for because, especially if your driving, it's hard to see the faces and the costumes were not immediately apparent, nor is there a nice big X3 anywhere, but they looked really cool. *g* I was all "What *is* that?" And then I think I drove past the Wolverine poster and I went "OH!". heh. And oooooh, Angel! Nifty keen, jelly bean. And dude, Beast is Kelsey Grammer?? wow. That's a departure from his normal role.
The teaser for the film can be seen here. It looks spiffy. *g*
I work right by the water front and even on calm days it's windy here. Today was a real struggle getting to work. :) The wind kept pushing me every which way. LOL. Nearly got swept off to sea. hee.
In class we're reading Freud's Dora: A Fragment of a Case of Hysteria which I found deeply disturbing for some reason, and so did the rest of my classmates. More so than the actual text warranted, in my opinion. The professor had a tough time getting us off our disgust of Freud and onto the actual critique and analysis of the text in the context of the class (which is focused on the fin-de-siecle Decadent movement). Anyway, I mention this because at the start of class while we were waiting for the professor to show up, we were all commiserating over our many issues with Freud and how we felt he (mis)handled that poor unfortunate "Dora" and someone brought of Jung and then someone else brought up the speculation some have over Freud and Jung's "relationship". And of course I'm thinking that's an RPS pairing that can just die die die. And *then* someone else brought up (I had no hand in this at all, I swear) Tolkien and C.S. Lewis! and their supposed "love affair"! Slash is taking over the world! LOL. Meanwhile, I'm having a tough time not snorting in laughter, and the true test came when someone then brought up Frodo/Sam and how, some say, theoretically, it's supposed to be a reflection on Tolkien/C.S. Lewis. *boggle* From Freud to LOTR Frodo/Sam in about 10 minutes. :) It was rather surreal.
Should someone from that class actually stumble onto this post: Howdy!
So, recs.
First, [livejournal.com profile] carenejeans has written a lovely Highlander piece called Twelve Kisses (A Baker's Dozen) which I enjoyed muchly. Yay for new HL writers! woo. I loved how this story is structured, how it carried you through their developing relationship.
Second, I'm terribly late with this and I'm sure everyone's read it already, but if you haven't I recommend [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63's X-Men story His Terrible Swift Sword. I don't read much in the X-Men fandom, but I have enjoyed the movies and I'd been hearing about this story all summer *g* and it was interesting to hear Yahtzee talk about it and stuff and I always admire an author who handles plot well. cutting away for possible spoilers )
It's Talk Like a Pirate day. Arrrr. So, I'm asking, anyone know of good Jack/Norrington?
